CTET Paper I — शब्द भंडार एवं शब्द निर्माण (Vocabulary & Word Formation)

beginner 18 min read

  2. Direct — Prefix/suffix, word formation,

| Prefix | उदाहरण | किन शब्दों के साथ | |--------|---------|-------------------| | un- | unhappy, unkind, unfair | adjectives, verbs | | dis- | dishonest, disagree, disorder | adjectives, verbs, nouns | | in- | incomplete, incorrect | mostly adjectives | | im- | impossible, impolite | p या m से शुरू होने वाले | | il- | illegal, illegible | l से शुरू होने वाले | | ir- | irregular, irresponsible | r से शुरू होने वाले | | mis- | misunderstand, misspell | verbs — "गलत करना" का भाव | | non- | non-fiction, non-stop | neutral negation |

critical rule: in-/im-/il-/ir- एक ही prefix के रूप हैं — ये सब "not" का मतलब देते हैं, बस उच्चारण की सुविधा के लिए spelling बदलती है।

अन्य महत्वपूर्ण Prefixes:

| Prefix | अर्थ | उदाहरण | |--------|------|---------| | re- | फिर से | rewrite, redo, return | | pre- | पहले | preview, pre-school | | over- | अधिक | overwork, overestimate | | under- | कम | underestimate, underline | | co- | साथ | cooperate, co-teacher |

प्रत्यय (Suffixes) — शब्द के पीछे जुड़ने वाले अंश

Suffix जोड़ने से अक्सर शब्द की word-class बदल जाती है — यह prefix से बड़ा फ़र्क है।

Noun बनाने वाले Suffixes:

| Suffix | उदाहरण | Base word | |--------|---------|-----------| | -tion/-sion | education, confusion | educate, confuse | | -ness | happiness, kindness | happy, kind | | -ment | development, enjoyment | develop, enjoy | | -er/-or | teacher, director | teach, direct | | -ist | scientist, journalist | science, journal |

Adjective बनाने वाले Suffixes:

| Suffix | उदाहरण | |--------|---------| | -ful | careful, helpful, beautiful | | -less | careless, helpless, useless | | -ous | dangerous, famous | | -al | national, natural | | -able/-ible | comfortable, flexible |

महत्वपूर्ण pattern: -ful और -less एक ही root से विलोम बनाते हैं — careful / careless, hopeful / hopeless। CTET में यह pattern antonym questions में आता है।

पर्यायवाची (Synonyms) और विलोम (Antonyms)

Passage-based questions में यह सबसे ज़्यादा आता है। Strategy यह है:

  1. शब्द का context देखो — passage में वह वाक्य दोबारा पढ़ो
  2. अपने दिमाग में एक हिंदी equivalent सोचो
  3. दिए गए options में से वह option चुनो जो उस context में fit बैठे

उदाहरण: "The trunk of the Chinar tree feels rough." — यहाँ "rough" का synonym "coarse" होगा, "hard" नहीं — क्योंकि context texture का है, कठोरता का नहीं।

Fact vs. Opinion — एक ज़रूरी distinction

CTET Paper I में यह concept सीधे पूछा जाता है। सरल नियम:

Opinion की पहचान: इनमें अक्सर "fortunate/unfortunate", "should", "best/worst", "beautiful/ugly" जैसे evaluative शब्द होते हैं।

  • बाकी सब → in- (incorrect, incomplete)

यह rule 95% cases में काम करता है। सामान्य method: हर option trial करो (45 seconds) vs. यह shortcut: 5 seconds में answer।

pattern-ful vs -less से antonym बनाना

अगर किसी adjective में -ful suffix है, तो उसका antonym -less वाला form होगा — और दोनों एक ही root से बनते हैं:

  • hopeful → hopeless
  • careful → careless
  • helpful → helpless
  • meaningful → meaningless

CTET में जब antonym पूछा जाए और base word में -ful हो, तो options में -less वाला form ढूँढो। 3 options automatically eliminate होते हैं। Standard method: सभी options का अर्थ सोचो (30 seconds) vs. यह pattern: 8 seconds।

eliminationOpinion की पहचान — evaluative शब्द scanner

किसी statement में ये शब्द हों तो वह opinion है — fact नहीं: "unfortunate / fortunate / should / must / best / worst / beautiful / ugly / right / wrong / better / worse"

substitution-er/-or/-ist से profession/person पहचानना

जब passage में कोई "person noun" आए:

  • -er suffix → काम करने वाला: teacher, writer, runner
  • -or suffix → प्रायः Latin root से: director, inspector, conductor
  • -ist suffix → किसी विशेष क्षेत्र का: graphologist, scientist, journalist

CTET के passage-based questions में "Who is X?" type के questions का answer इसी pattern से मिलता है। 4 options में से 2-3 तुरंत eliminate होते हैं। 3-step elimination vs 1-step।

तेज़-समाधान रूपरेखा

परीक्षा हॉल में Vocabulary question देखते ही यह decision tree follow करो:

Step 1 — Question type identify करो:

Step 2 — Passage-based word के लिए:

Step 3 — Elimination:

Previous Year Questionपिछले वर्ष का प्रश्न2021
A graphologist can give accurate information about
  1. a person's popularity graph.
  2. a person's mental health.
  3. setbacks a person is likely to face in future.
  4. a person's chances of success.
Solutionसमाधान
According to paragraph 4 of the passage, graphologists can analyze 'psychological conditions like high blood pressure and schizophrenia to personality traits like dominance and aggression.' This indicates that graphology provides accurate information about a person's mental health. The passage does not claim graphologists can predict popularity, future setbacks, or success.

Previous Year Questionपिछले वर्ष का प्रश्न2021
A person who writes with large letters that cross over to the top line is likely to be
  1. outgoing.
  2. introverted.
  3. aggressive.
  4. diffident.
Solutionसमाधान
Paragraph 5 states: 'If you write with large letters that go over the topline, you are likely to be the opposite: outgoing, confident and attention seeking.' Thus the correct answer is 'outgoing'. Introverted and diffident are opposite traits, and aggressive is not mentioned in connection with large letters.

समाधान का रास्ता: Passage में "large letters that go over the topline" वाली specific line locate करो। वहाँ "outgoing, confident and attention seeking" तीनों शब्द एक साथ हैं। "Introverted" और "diffident" opposite हैं — eliminate। "Aggressive" passage में large letters के साथ नहीं जोड़ा — eliminate। Answer: outgoing।

क्यों यह प्रश्न: यह reverse question है — पहले trait दिया, handwriting style पूछी। CTET में यह variation common है। Pattern recognition ज़रूरी है।

Previous Year Questionपिछले वर्ष का प्रश्न2021
An attention seeking, confident person writes with
  1. tiny letters.
  2. cursive letters.
  3. large letters.
  4. rounded letters.
Solutionसमाधान
Paragraph 5 explicitly states that writing with large letters that go over the topline indicates being 'outgoing, confident and attention seeking.' Tiny letters indicate timid/introverted personality. Cursive and rounded letters are not associated with confidence/attention seeking in the passage.

समाधान का रास्ता: "Confident and attention seeking" → passage में यह description किस letter style के साथ है? "Large letters" के साथ। "Tiny letters" → timid/introverted — opposite। "Cursive" और "rounded" का confidence से passage में कोई link नहीं। 3 options eliminate, answer: large letters।

क्यों यह प्रश्न: Fact vs. Opinion — यह CTET 2018 का classic question है जो vocabulary की conceptual समझ test करता है, न सिर्फ रटे हुए शब्द।

Previous Year Questionपिछले वर्ष का प्रश्न2018
Which one of the following is an opinion?
  1. Stone is more resistant to fire than wood.
  2. William the Conqueror built the first castles in England.
  3. It is unfortunate that castles no longer serve their original purposes.
  4. Castles were used as offices of administration during the Middle Ages.
Solutionसमाधान
An opinion expresses a personal judgment, feeling or value. 'It is unfortunate' is a subjective evaluation, not a verifiable fact. The other three statements are factual claims that can be verified historically or scientifically.

समाधान का रास्ता: Trick 3 लगाओ — evaluative शब्द scanner। Options scan करो: "It is unfortunate" में "unfortunate" एक evaluative/judgmental शब्द है — यह किसी की personal feeling है, verified fact नहीं। बाकी तीनों statements historical या scientific facts हैं जो verify हो सकती हैं। 10 seconds में answer।

क्यों यह प्रश्न: यह direct prefix question है जो 2024 तक CTET में बार-बार pattern बदलकर आता रहा है। "un-" vs "dis-" vs "mis-" vs "in-" — यही confusion CTET बनाता है।

Previous Year Questionपिछले वर्ष का प्रश्न
Which prefix changes the meaning of the word 'happy' to mean 'not happy'?
कौन सा उपसर्ग (prefix) 'happy' शब्द का अर्थ 'not happy' (खुश नहीं) में बदल देता है?
  1. dis-
  2. un-
  3. mis-
  4. in-
  1. dis-
  2. un-
  3. mis-
  4. in-
Solutionसमाधान
Adding 'un-' to 'happy' forms 'unhappy', meaning not happy. While 'dis-', 'mis-', and 'in-' are also negating prefixes, 'unhappy' is the standard and accepted English word. 'Dishappy', 'mishappy', and 'inhappy' are not correct English words.

"Unhappy" → standard recognized word। "Dishappy", "mishappy", "inhappy" — कोई valid English word नहीं है। Elimination से: un- ही सही answer।
