CTET Paper II

CTET Paper II

"past you" में "past" preposition है क्योंकि वह 'you' को object के रूप में लेता है।

समुच्चयबोधक (Conjunction): दो वाक्यों या शब्दों को जोड़े। "Yet" जब वाक्य की शुरुआत में contrast दिखाए — conjunction है।

विस्मयादिबोधक (Interjection): भाव-अभिव्यक्ति।

Determiner — एक विशेष श्रेणी

CTET प्रश्नों में determiner एक अलग option के रूप में आता है। Determiners वे शब्द हैं जो संज्ञा से पहले आकर उसे specify या quantify करते हैं: "each", "every", "this", "that", "some", "any", "the", "a"।

Determiner vs Pronoun का अंतर: "Each student is present" — यहाँ 'each' determiner है क्योंकि यह 'student' (संज्ञा) से पहले है। "Each is present" — यहाँ 'each' pronoun है क्योंकि यह संज्ञा की जगह अकेला खड़ा है।

"People are pushing past you" में 'past' हटाने पर 'you' बिना direction के अधर में लटक जाता है — इसका मतलब 'past' 'you' को govern कर रहा है, यानी preposition है। यह test 3 step में होता है; elimination approach से 8s में जवाब मिलता है बनाम options पढ़कर सोचने के 30s के मुकाबले।

patternDeterminer-Pronoun Split: अकेला है या साथी?

"each", "this", "that", "every" — इनके लिए एक ही सवाल पूछो: "क्या यह शब्द अकेला खड़ा है या इसके बाद संज्ञा है?" अगर बाद में संज्ञा है → Determiner। अगर अकेला है → Pronoun। "On the whole that is true" में 'that' के बाद कोई noun नहीं, बल्कि verb 'is' है — इसलिए Pronoun। यह pattern 3 PYQs में सीधे काम आया है। Standard approach (सभी definitions याद करना): 60s। यह split-test: 8s।

patternConjunction-Adverb Trap: वाक्य की शुरुआत में contrast शब्द

"Yet", "However", "Still", "Nevertheless" जब वाक्य की शुरुआत में आएं और पिछले वाक्य से contrast दिखाएँ — ये conjunction की भूमिका निभाते हैं। "Yet, we are all making..."

Step 1 — Underlined

समाधान का रास्ता: "People are pushing past you" — 'past' के बाद 'you' (pronoun) है जो इसका object बन रहा है। जो शब्द noun/pronoun को object बनाए → Preposition। Adverb option को eliminate करो क्योंकि adverb object नहीं लेता।

Previous Year Questionपिछले वर्ष का प्रश्न2019
Which part of speech is the underlined word in the following sentence? People are pushing past you.
  1. Preposition
  2. Adverb
  3. Adjective
  4. Verb
Solutionसमाधान
In the sentence 'People are pushing past you,' the word 'past' is used as a preposition because it shows the relationship between the action of pushing and the object 'you' — indicating movement beyond or by someone. As a preposition, 'past' takes 'you' as its object. It is not modifying a verb (adverb), describing a noun (adjective), or showing action (verb) here.

क्यों यह प्रश्न: 'which' को लेकर सबसे ज़्यादा confusion होता है — relative pronoun है या conjunction?

समाधान का रास्ता: "which is why I was agreeably surprised" — 'which' यहाँ पिछले idea को refer करता है। यह किसी noun की जगह काम कर रहा है (demonstrative/relative pronoun)। Preposition नहीं क्योंकि यह कोई object नहीं लेता। Conjunction नहीं क्योंकि यह दो clauses को 'जोड़' नहीं रहा — यह खुद subject की भूमिका निभा रहा है।

Previous Year Questionपिछले वर्ष का प्रश्न2019
Name the part of speech of the underlined word in the following clause. which is why I was agreeably surprised.
  1. Preposition
  2. Adjective
  3. Pronoun
  4. Adverb
Solutionसमाधान
In the clause 'which is why I was agreeably surprised,' the word 'which' is a relative pronoun referring back to the preceding idea (about gifts gathering dust). Relative pronouns introduce relative clauses and refer to antecedents. It is not a preposition (no relationship between nouns), adjective (not describing a noun), or adverb (not modifying a verb). It functions as a pronoun.

क्यों यह प्रश्न: 'ever' को लोग adjective समझ लेते हैं — यह classic trap है।

समाधान का रास्ता: "Did you ever try to find out?" — 'ever' 'try' (verb) को modify कर रहा है, frequency बता रहा है। Verb को modify करे → Adverb। किसी noun को describe नहीं कर रहा → Adjective नहीं।

Previous Year Questionपिछले वर्ष का प्रश्न2019
Which part of speech is the underlined word in the following sentence? Did you ever try to find out?
  1. Adverb
  2. Adjective
  3. Pronoun
  4. Verb
Solutionसमाधान
In the sentence 'Did you ever try to find out?', the word 'ever' modifies the verb 'try' by indicating time/frequency (at any time). Words that modify verbs are adverbs. 'Ever' is a classic adverb of time/frequency, expressing 'at any point in time.' It is not describing a noun (adjective), replacing a noun (pronoun), or showing action (verb).

क्यों यह प्रश्न: 'each' के लिए Determiner vs Pronoun का confusion CTET में repeatedly आता है।

समाधान का रास्ता: "The kind of language learnt in each setting differs too" — 'each' के तुरंत बाद 'setting' (noun) है। जो शब्द noun से पहले आकर उसे specify करे → Determiner। अगर 'each' अकेला होता ("each differs") तो pronoun होता।

Previous Year Questionपिछले वर्ष का प्रश्न2019
Which part of speech is the underlined word in the following sentence? The kind of language learnt in each setting differs too.
  1. Pronoun
  2. Determiner
  3. Conjunction
  4. Preposition
Solutionसमाधान
The word 'each' in this sentence functions as a determiner because it specifies or determines the noun 'setting' that follows it. Determiners include words like 'each', 'every', 'this', 'that', 'some', 'any', etc. It is not a pronoun (which would replace a noun), nor a conjunction or preposition. Hence option (2), Determiner, is correct.

क्यों यह प्रश्न: 'until' conjunction भी होता है, preposition भी — यही इसकी परीक्षा-value है।

समाधान का रास्ता: "delayed until a quiz" — 'until' के बाद 'a quiz' (noun phrase) है, न कि कोई clause। Noun phrase लेने वाला → Preposition। अगर बाद में "until the quiz started" होता (clause) → Conjunction होता।

Previous Year Questionपिछले वर्ष का प्रश्न2019
Study the following phrase. Which part of speech is the underlined word? 'but delayed until a quiz …'
  1. Pronoun
  2. Determiner
  3. Conjunction
  4. Preposition
Solutionसमाधान
The word 'until' in the phrase 'delayed until a quiz' functions as a preposition because it shows the relationship between 'delayed' and the noun phrase 'a quiz' (indicating time). When 'until' is followed by a noun/noun phrase, it acts as a preposition; when followed by a clause, it acts as a conjunction. Here it is followed by 'a quiz' (a noun phrase), so it is a preposition. Hence option (4) is correct.

क्यों यह प्रश्न: 'that' demonstrative pronoun के रूप में — एक बार context देखना ज़रूरी है।

समाधान का रास्ता: "On the whole that is true" — 'that' किसी पिछली बात की ओर इशारा कर रहा है और वाक्य में subject की भूमिका निभा रहा है। Subject की भूमिका → Pronoun। अगर 'that' के बाद noun होता ("that book") → Determiner होता।

Previous Year Questionपिछले वर्ष का प्रश्न2019
Which part of speech is the underlined word in the following sentence? On the whole that is true.
  1. Determiner
  2. Pronoun
  3. Conjunction
  4. Preposition
Solutionसमाधान
In the sentence 'On the whole that is true', the word 'that' is used in place of a noun/idea (referring back to a previous statement). It functions as a pronoun (demonstrative pronoun). It does not modify a noun (determiner), nor does it link clauses (conjunction), nor show relation (preposition). Hence option (2), Pronoun, is correct.

क्यों यह प्रश्न: 'often' एक frequency adverb है — इसे adjective समझने की गलती परीक्षा में होती है।

समाधान का रास्ता: "It is often held that..." — 'often' 'held' (past participle/verb) को modify कर रहा है, बता रहा है कि "कितनी बार" कुछ माना जाता है। Verb modify करे → Adverb।

Previous Year Questionपिछले वर्ष का प्रश्न2019
Identify the part of speech of the underlined word in the following sentence. It is often held that as a principle.
  1. Pronoun
  2. Adverb
  3. Adjective
  4. Preposition
Solutionसमाधान
The word 'often' describes how frequently something is held — it modifies the verb 'held'. Words that modify verbs (showing how, when, where, how often) are adverbs. 'Often' indicates frequency and is a classic adverb. Hence option (2), Adverb, is correct.

क्यों यह प्रश्न: 'Yet' का Conjunction vs Adverb — यही CTET का सबसे बड़ा trap है।

समाधान का रास्ता: "Yet, we are all making a whole range of decisions" — 'Yet' पिछले वाक्य से contrast establish कर रहा है, दो ideas को जोड़ रहा है। यह 'but' के समतुल्य function कर रहा है → Conjunction। Adverb होता अगर यह किसी verb या adjective को modify करता।

Previous Year Questionपिछले वर्ष का प्रश्न2019
Which part of speech is the underlined word in the following sentence? Yet, we are all making a whole range of decisions.
  1. Adverb
  2. Conjunction
  3. Pronoun
  4. Preposition
Solutionसमाधान
The word 'Yet' at the beginning of a sentence linking it to the previous idea (creating contrast) functions as a conjunction (specifically, a coordinating/conjunctive adverb used as a conjunction). It connects ideas, showing contrast — similar to 'but' or 'however'. In this contextual use, it serves a conjunctive function. Hence option (2), Conjunction, is correct.
