CTET Paper II — शब्द भंडार: विलोम शब्द, पर्यायवाची एवं शब्द अर्थ

intermediate 18 min read

(Antonyms) — CTET Pattern

Passage में "the principle was conceded as the basis" — यानी स्वीकार किया गया। तो antonym होगा "rejected" — अस्वीकार करना। यहाँ "criticized" या "denounced" गलत हैं क्योंकि वे critiquing करते हैं, rejecting नहीं।

स्तर 3 — Register-Based Antonyms: "Undisputed" — इसका antonym "doubtful" नहीं, बल्कि "challenging" है। क्यों? क्योंकि "undisputed" का core idea यह है कि कोई challenge नहीं करता। तो antonym वह होगा जहाँ कोई challenge करे — "challenging"। "Doubtful" में uncertainty है, active opposition नहीं।

पर्यायवाची (Synonyms) — Context की प्राथमिकता

Synonyms में सबसे बड़ी trap यह है कि options में दिए सभी शब्द "किसी न किसी अर्थ में" synonyms लगते हैं।

देखो यह pattern:

"Motivated" का संदर्भ: "Highly motivated students can thus..."

"Haphazard" का संदर्भ: "...in a haphazard way"

यहाँ technique यह है: शब्द के core semantic feature को पकड़ो। "Haphazard" का core = अव्यवस्था। "Dangerous" का core = खतरा। दोनों अलग हैं।

शब्द निर्माण से Antonym/Synonym पहचानना

| मूल शब्द | Prefix से Antonym | Suffix बदलकर | |---|---|---| | order | disorder | ordered ↔ muddled | | superior | inferior | — | | disputable | undisputed | — | | concede | — | reject/refuse | | organize | disorganize | unorganized |

Passage-Based Questions की Strategy

patternPrefix-Scan Method

जब भी antonym प्रश्न में options हों, पहले देखो कि क्या किसी option में मूल शब्द के साथ un-, in-, dis-, im-, non- जुड़ा है। अगर है और वह prefix सही semantic है — वही antonym होगा।

उदाहरण: "organized" → "unorganized" (haphazard का antonym)। "Superior" → "inferior" (in- prefix, lateral pair)।

Standard method: dictionary scan करो, 45-60 seconds। इस pattern से: 10-15 seconds में eliminate करो जो prefix-pair नहीं बनाते।

eliminationCore Feature Isolation

हर शब्द का एक core semantic feature होता है। उसे isolate करो, बाकी सब eliminate।

Steps (3 steps vs 6 steps in traditional method):

  1. शब्द का core feature लिखो (1 word) — "muddled" → disorder
  2. Options में वही feature का opposite ढूँढो — "ordered" → order
  3. बाकी options automatically eliminate

"Conceded" → core = acceptance → antonym = rejection → "Rejected" सही, "Criticized"/"Denounced" eliminate।

यह 3-step process traditional elimination (6 options compare करना) से आधे समय में काम करती है।

patternPositive-Negative Axis Check

हर vocabulary प्रश्न में पहले तय करो: मूल शब्द positive है, negative है, या neutral?

  • "Undisputed" → positive/settled → antonym = negative/unsettled → "Challenging" (negative connotation)
  • "Ordinary" → neutral-negative → antonym = positive → "Special"
  • "Motivated" → positive → synonym = positive → "Interested" (positive), eliminate "muddled" (negative)

यह axis check 5 seconds में 1-2 options eliminate कर देती है। Standard method में हर option individually सोचते हो — 4 options × 10s = 40s। Axis check से: 5s elimination + 20s verification = 25s।

substitutionRegister Match करो

Synonym प्रश्न में जीतने का तरीका: मूल शब्द का "register" (formal/informal, action/state/quality) देखो और वही register का option चुनो।

"Motivated" — यह एक state of mind है (action नहीं, quality नहीं)। Options में:

  • "Intelligent" → quality (eliminate)
  • "Resourceful" → quality/action (eliminate)
  • "Interested" → state of mind (match — select)

यह substitution test करो: वाक्य में शब्द बदलकर पढ़ो। "Highly interested students can thus..." — यह naturally fits। "Highly intelligent students can thus..." — यह भी fit करता है लेकिन context में learning drive की बात है, not intellect। Register = state of engagement → "interested" wins।

Standard guessing: 30-40s। Register check: 15s।

eliminationTrap Elimination — Near-Antonym vs True Antonym

CTET में एक classic trap: "near-antonym" को true antonym की जगह रखा जाता है।

"Undisputed" के लिए trap options:

  • "Doubtful" → near-antonym (uncertainty है, लेकिन active challenge नहीं)
  • "Challenging" → true antonym (active opposition)

Rule: अगर दो options "antonym जैसे" लग रहे हों, तो पूछो — "इनमें से कौन सा मूल शब्द के exact opposite scenario को describe करता है?"

"Undisputed" scenario = nobody challenges it। True opposite scenario = somebody challenges it। "Challenging" = वह act। "Doubtful" = internal uncertainty, not external challenge।

यह distinction पकड़ना: standard approach में छूट जाता है। यह question type में 1 additional step लेकिन गलती बचाता है।

तेज़-समाधान रूपरेखा

CTET exam hall में vocabulary प्रश्न मिले तो यह decision tree follow करो:

Step 1 (5s): प्रश्न पढ़ो — Antonym माँगा है या Synonym/Meaning?

Step 2 (10s): Passage में वह वाक्य locate करो। पूरा वाक्य पढ़ो — केवल शब्द नहीं।

Step 3 (5s): Positive-Negative Axis check

Core feature: active contestation। Answer: Challenging।

Previous Year Questionपिछले वर्ष का प्रश्न2018
Which one of the following words is most opposite to the meaning of the word 'undisputed' as used in the passage?
  1. Challenging
  2. Doubtful
  3. Deprived
  4. Emphasized
Solutionसमाधान
'Undisputed' means not challenged or questioned, universally accepted. Its antonym is something that is challenged or contested. 'Challenging' best conveys this opposite meaning—if something is undisputed, no one challenges it; the opposite is that something is being challenged. 'Doubtful' refers to uncertainty rather than active opposition. Hence (1) Challenging is the best antonym.

क्यों यह प्रश्न: "Conceded" — context-dependent antonym का सबसे अच्छा उदाहरण। शब्द का अर्थ passage के बिना अलग दिख सकता है।

समाधान का रास्ता: Passage context: "principle was conceded as the basis" = accepted/granted। Core feature: acceptance। Antonym = rejection। "Criticized" = fault-finding (not rejection), "Denounced" = condemnation (not rejection), "Withdrawn" = taking back (different action). "Rejected" = refused to accept। Direct antonym।

Previous Year Questionपिछले वर्ष का प्रश्न2018
Choose the word which is most opposite in meaning of the word 'conceded' as used in the passage.
  1. Criticized
  2. Rejected
  3. Denounced
  4. Withdrawn
Solutionसमाधान
In the passage, 'the principle of linguistic States was conceded as the basis of a federal Indian Union.' 'Conceded' here means accepted or granted. The opposite of 'accepted/granted' is 'Rejected'—to refuse to accept. 'Criticized' means to find fault, 'Denounced' means to publicly condemn, 'Withdrawn' means to take back—none directly opposes 'conceded' as 'rejected' does. Hence (2) Rejected is correct.

क्यों यह प्रश्न: "Muddled" — यहाँ सभी wrong options भी "muddled जैसे" शब्द हैं। Synonyms को antonym की जगह रखा गया है — classic trap।

समाधान का रास्ता: "Muddled" = confused, disorganized। Positive-Negative Axis: negative word। Antonym = positive word। Options में "confused", "chaotic", "rumpled" सब negative — eliminate। "Ordered" = systematically arranged — positive। यही antonym है।

Previous Year Questionपिछले वर्ष का प्रश्न2018
The word that is opposite in meaning to the word 'muddled' is—
  1. confused
  2. chaotic
  3. ordered
  4. rumpled
Solutionसमाधान
'Muddled' means confused, disorganized, or jumbled. Its opposite is something clear, organized, or systematic. 'Ordered' means arranged in a clear, systematic way, which is the direct antonym of muddled. 'Confused', 'chaotic', and 'rumpled' are all synonyms of muddled, not antonyms. Hence (3) ordered is correct.

क्यों यह प्रश्न: "Ordinary" का antonym — register match का उदाहरण। "Ordinary" एक quality है, तो antonym भी quality होनी चाहिए।

समाधान का रास्ता: "Ordinary" = commonplace quality। Antonym = distinctive/exceptional quality। "Usual" = synonym (eliminate)। "Complex" = different dimension (difficulty, not distinctiveness)। "Liable" = responsibility (different semantic field)। "Special" = exceptional quality — direct antonym। Register: quality adjective → quality adjective।

Previous Year Questionपिछले वर्ष का प्रश्न2019
The word that is opposite in meaning to the word, 'ordinary' is:
  1. usual
  2. complex
  3. special
  4. liable
Solutionसमाधान
'Ordinary' means commonplace, usual, or normal. Its opposite is 'special,' which means distinctive, exceptional, or out of the ordinary. 'Usual' is a synonym of ordinary, 'complex' relates to complication (different concept), and 'liable' means responsible or likely. 'Special' is the clear antonym of 'ordinary.'

क्यों यह प्रश्न: "Motivated" का synonym — register match और context क्यों deciding factor है, इसका perfect example।

समाधान का रास्ता: Context: language learning में highly motivated students की बात है। Core feature: strong drive/interest in learning। "Intelligent" = cognitive ability (different dimension)। "Resourceful" = problem-solving ability (different dimension)। "Muddled" = negative (eliminate by axis check)। "Interested" = engaged/keen — learning context में motivation का practical equivalent। यही सही है।

Previous Year Questionपिछले वर्ष का प्रश्न2019
What does the word 'motivated' mean in the following phrase? 'Highly motivated students can thus ……..'
  1. intelligent
  2. resourceful
  3. muddled
  4. interested
Solutionसमाधान
In the context of the passage, 'motivated' refers to students who have a strong drive or interest in learning the language. The closest synonym among the options is 'interested', because motivated students are those who are keen and interested in the subject. 'Intelligent' refers to cognitive ability, 'resourceful' refers to being creative with resources, and 'muddled' means confused. Hence option (4), interested, is the best meaning.

क्यों यह प्रश्न: "Haphazard" — यह शब्द कम common है। Options में "dangerous" एक common trap है।

समाधान का रास्ता: "Haphazard" = without plan or system। Core feature: absence of organization। "Dangerous" = risk/harm (different semantic field — eliminate)। "Safe" = opposite of dangerous (eliminate — wrong field)। "Proper" = correct/appropriate (antonym feel, eliminate)। "Unorganized" = without organization — exact match। Context: street learning happens without a structured plan = haphazardly = unorganizedly।

Previous Year Questionपिछले वर्ष का प्रश्न2019
'…… in a haphazard way.' The word 'haphazard' means
  1. dangerous
  2. unorganized
  3. safe
  4. proper
Solutionसमाधान
The word 'haphazard' means lacking order or organization; done in a random or unplanned manner. In the passage, it describes how street learning of language happens without a structured plan. The closest synonym is 'unorganized'. 'Dangerous' refers to risk, 'safe' is the opposite of risk, and 'proper' means correct/appropriate. Hence option (2), unorganized, is correct.

क्यों यह प्रश्न: "Superior" का antonym — prefix-based antonym का straightforward उदाहरण। यहाँ degree trap है: "lower" vs "inferior"।

समाधान का रास्ता: "Superior" = higher in rank/quality (comparative adjective)। Prefix scan: "inferior" = in- prefix + fero root = lower in rank/quality। "Higher" और "lower" = position/height (different semantic field)। "Prior" = time-related (different field entirely)। "Inferior" = same semantic field (rank/quality), direct antonym pair। Superior-Inferior एक established antonym pair है।

Previous Year Questionपिछले वर्ष का प्रश्न2019
Fill in the blank in the following sentence. _____ is opposite in meaning to the word, 'superior'.
  1. Higher
  2. Prior
  3. Inferior
  4. Lower
Solutionसमाधान
The direct antonym of 'superior' (meaning higher in rank/quality) is 'inferior' (lower in rank/quality). 'Higher' and 'lower' refer to position/height, and 'prior' refers to time/precedence — these are not direct antonyms in the same semantic field. Hence option (3), Inferior, is correct.
