IBPS Clerk अंग्रेज़ी: त्रुटि पहचान — व्याकरण की गलतियाँ पकड़ने की पूरी रणनीति

intermediate 18 min read

अगर वह लिखे "I am looking forward to meet you" — तुम्हें सुनने में यह सही लग सकता है। लेकिन grammar की नज़र से यह गलत है क्योंकि "looking forward to" के बाद gerund (meeting) आता है, infinitive (meet) नहीं। यही फ़र्क पकड़ना है।

Error Spotting

Each / Every / Everyone का नियम: "Each", "Every", "Everyone", "Everybody", "Nobody", "No one" — ये सभी हमेशा singular होते हैं।

"One of those + plural noun + who" का नियम: यह एक classic trap है। "She is one of those students who always complete their homework." यहाँ "who" का antecedent "students" (plural) है, इसलिए verb "complete" होगी, "completes" नहीं।

याद रखो: "One of those + [plural noun] + who + [plural verb]" — हमेशा।

श्रेणी 2: Preposition की त्रुटियाँ

कुछ adjectives और nouns के साथ fixed prepositions आती हैं जिन्हें बदला नहीं जा सकता। इन्हें "collocations" कहते हैं।

Latin/French मूल के comparatives: जिन शब्दों की उत्पत्ति Latin से हुई है, वे "than" नहीं बल्कि "to" लेते हैं:

| शब्द | सही preposition | गलत | |------|----------------|-----| | Senior | to | ~~than~~ | | Junior | to | ~~than~~ | | Superior | to | ~~than~~ | | Inferior | to | ~~than~~ | | Prior | to | ~~than~~ |

Despite / In spite of: "Despite" एक preposition है — यह अकेला आता है, इसके बाद "of" नहीं आता।

श्रेणी 3: Gerund बनाम Infinitive

कुछ phrases के बाद हमेशा gerund (verb + ing) आती है, infinitive (to + base verb) नहीं।

"Looking forward to" का नियम: यहाँ "to" एक preposition है, infinitive marker नहीं। Preposition के बाद हमेशा noun या gerund आता है।

इसी pattern पर और phrases:

श्रेणी 4: Lay बनाम Lie की त्रुटि

यह pair सबसे अधिक confuse करने वाला है:

| क्रिया | अर्थ | Present | Past | Past Participle | |--------|------|---------|------|----------------| | Lie | लेटना (intransitive) | lie | lay | lain | | Lay | रखना (transitive) | lay | laid | laid |

"He lay down on the bed." — यहाँ "lay" सही है क्योंकि यह "lie" (लेटना) का past tense है। "He laid the book on the table." — यहाँ "laid" सही है क्योंकि यह "lay" (रखना) का past tense है।

श्रेणी 5: Indirect Speech की त्रुटियाँ

Indirect (reported) speech में WH-questions को report करते समय "that" का प्रयोग नहीं होता।

नियम: WH-word (where, when, why, how, what, who) खुद ही conjunction का काम करता है — अलग से "that" की ज़रूरत नहीं।

शॉर्टकट और युक्तियाँ

eliminationSNAP टेस्ट — Subject-Verb Agreement पकड़ो

जब भी Subject और Verb के बीच लंबा phrase हो, उसे bracket में बंद करो और सीधे Subject-Verb देखो।

उदाहरण: "Each of the employees [were] given a bonus" → bracket करो: "Each of [the employees] [were] given" → "Each...were" — गलत। "Each" singular है, "was" होगी।

Standard method: पूरा वाक्य पढ़कर सोचना — 30 seconds। SNAP method: Subject को isolate करो — 8 seconds।

patternLATIN LIST — 'to' वाले comparatives

Latin मूल के 5 comparatives को एक वाक्य में याद करो:

"Senior Juniors Superior Inferior Prior — सब 'to' लेते हैं, 'than' नहीं।"

जैसे ही किसी option में इनमें से कोई शब्द दिखे और उसके बाद "than" हो — वही answer है।

Standard method: सोचना कि कौन-सा preposition सही है — 20 seconds। Pattern method: LATIN LIST देखो — 4 seconds।

elimination'TO' की पहचान — Preposition या Infinitive marker?

"Looking forward to", "Used to", "Devoted to", "Object to" — इनमें "to" को infinitive marker समझने की गलती मत करो।

Test: क्या "to" हटाने पर verb अकेले आ सकती है? अगर नहीं, तो "to" preposition है → gerund आएगी।

"Looking forward __ meeting" — "to" हटाया, "meeting" अकेला चल सकता है → "to" preposition था।

यह test apply करने में 5 seconds, गलत option को eliminate करने में 0 seconds।

patternLAY-LIE Trick — Object है या नहीं?

एक सवाल पूछो: क्रिया के बाद कोई object (चीज़) है?

  • "He ___ down" — object नहीं → "lie" family → past tense "lay"
  • "He ___ the book" — object है (the book) → "lay" family → past tense "laid"

Object check करने में: 3 seconds। LAY-LIE को याद करने की ज़रूरत नहीं — बस object देखो।

eliminationDespite of — दो-शब्द trap पकड़ो

"Despite" और "In spite of" — दोनों का अर्थ एक है लेकिन:

  • "Despite" = 1 शब्द, "of" नहीं
  • "In spite of" = 3 शब्द, "of" ज़रूरी

Trick: "Despite" के बाद अगर "of" दिखे → तुरंत वह part गलत है। यह check करने में 2 seconds।

तेज़-समाधान रूपरेखा

Error Spotting में हर सवाल को इस क्रम में देखो:

Step 1 — Subject-Verb Agreement check करो (10 seconds): Subject ढूँढो। Singular है या plural? Verb उससे मेल खाती है? "Neither...nor", "Each", "One of those" वाले traps देखो।

Step 2 — Preposition देखो (8 seconds): "Senior/Junior/Superior/Inferior/Prior" + "than" → गलत होगा। "Despite of" → गलत होगा। "Looking forward to + base verb" → गलत होगा।

Step 3 — Gerund vs Infinitive (5 seconds): "Looking forward to", "Used to", "Object to" के बाद base verb है या gerund? Base verb हो तो गलत।

Step 4 — Lay/Lie और Tense (5 seconds): Past tense में "lie" = "lay", "lay" = "laid"। Object है? — "laid"। Object नहीं? — "lay"।

Step 5 — Indirect Speech (5 seconds): WH-word के पहले "that" है? → गलत।

अगर इन पाँचों steps में कोई error नहीं मिली → "No error" चुनो। "No error" से डरो मत — यह एक valid answer है।

कुल समय: 30-35 seconds प्रति सवाल।

हल किए गए PYQs

क्यों यह प्रश्न: "Looking forward to" का misuse IBPS में बार-बार आता है — यह gerund vs infinitive का सबसे common trap है।

Previous Year Questionपिछले वर्ष का प्रश्न
The following sentence has been divided into parts. One of them may contain an error. Select the part that contains the error. If there is no error, select 'No error'. (A) I am looking forward / (B) to meet you / (C) at the conference tomorrow / (D) No error
  1. A
  2. B
  3. C
  4. D
Solutionसमाधान
The error is in part B. 'Looking forward to' is followed by a gerund (verb+ing), not an infinitive. The correct form should be 'to meeting you'.
त्रुटि भाग B में है। 'Looking forward to' के बाद गेरंड (क्रिया+ing) आता है, अनंत नहीं। सही रूप 'to meeting you' होना चाहिए।

समाधान का रास्ता: Part B में "to meet" देखो। "Looking forward to" में "to" preposition है, इसलिए इसके बाद gerund "meeting" आना चाहिए। Part B गलत है।

क्यों यह प्रश्न: "Neither...nor" वाला Subject-Verb Agreement IBPS Clerk का सबसे popular error-spotting pattern है।

Previous Year Questionपिछले वर्ष का प्रश्न
The following sentence has been divided into parts. One of them may contain an error. Select the part that contains the error. If there is no error, select 'No error'. (A) Neither the teacher nor the students / (B) was present during / (C) the fire drill yesterday / (D) No error
  1. A
  2. B
  3. C
  4. D
Solutionसमाधान
The error is in part B. With 'neither...nor', the verb agrees with the subject closer to it. Since 'students' is plural, the verb should be 'were' not 'was'.
त्रुटि भाग B में है। 'neither...nor' के साथ, क्रिया उसके निकट वाले विषय से मेल खाती है। चूंकि 'students' बहुवचन है, क्रिया 'were' होनी चाहिए 'was' नहीं।

समाधान का रास्ता: "Neither the teacher nor the students" — verb के सबसे पास "students" (plural) है। इसलिए Part B में "was" गलत है, "were" होना चाहिए।

क्यों यह प्रश्न: Latin comparatives का trap — "senior than" सुनने में सही लगता है लेकिन है गलत।

Previous Year Questionपिछले वर्ष का प्रश्न
The following sentence has been divided into parts. One of them may contain an error. Select the part that contains the error. If there is no error, select 'No error'. (A) She is senior than / (B) her colleague in / (C) terms of experience / (D) No error
  1. A
  2. B
  3. C
  4. D
Solutionसमाधान
The error is in part A. 'Senior' is followed by 'to', not 'than'. The correct form should be 'She is senior to her colleague'.
त्रुटि भाग A में है। 'Senior' के बाद 'to' आता है, 'than' नहीं। सही रूप 'She is senior to her colleague' होना चाहिए।

समाधान का रास्ता: Part A में "senior than" देखते ही LATIN LIST याद करो — Senior हमेशा "to" लेता है। Part A गलत है।

क्यों यह प्रश्न: "One of those + plural + who" का pattern बहुत tricky है — अधिकांश छात्र "one" को singular मानकर "completes" चुन लेते हैं।

Previous Year Questionपिछले वर्ष का प्रश्न
The following sentence has been divided into parts. One of them may contain an error. Select the part that contains the error. If there is no error, select 'No error'. (A) She is one of those students / (B) who always completes / (C) their homework on time / (D) No error
  1. A
  2. B
  3. C
  4. D
Solutionसमाधान
The error is in part B. Since 'one of those students who' refers to multiple students, the verb should be 'complete' not 'completes'. The subject is 'students' (plural), not 'one'.
त्रुटि भाग B में है। चूंकि 'one of those students who' कई छात्रों को संदर्भित करता है, क्रिया 'complete' होनी चाहिए 'completes' नहीं। विषय 'students' (बहुवचन) है, 'one' नहीं।

समाधान का रास्ता: "who" किसे refer कर रहा है? "students" को — plural। इसलिए Part B में "completes" गलत है, "complete" होना चाहिए।

क्यों यह प्रश्न: Lay vs Lie — यह pair हर competitive exam में आता है और सबसे अधिक गलत होता है।

Previous Year Questionपिछले वर्ष का प्रश्न
The following sentence has been divided into parts. One of them may contain an error. Select the part that contains the error. If there is no error, select 'No error'. (A) He laid down on the bed / (B) and closed his eyes / (C) to take a short nap / (D) No error
  1. A
  2. B
  3. C
  4. D
Solutionसमाधान
The error is in part A. 'Laid' is the past tense of 'lay' which means to put something down. The correct verb here should be 'lay' (past tense of 'lie' meaning to recline).

Previous Year Questionपिछले वर्ष का प्रश्न
The following sentence has been divided into parts. One of them may contain an error. Select the part that contains the error. If there is no error, select 'No error'. (A) Each of the employees / (B) were given a bonus / (C) for their excellent performance / (D) No error
  1. A
  2. B
  3. C
  4. D
Solutionसमाधान
The error is in part B. 'Each' is always singular and takes a singular verb. The correct form should be 'was given' not 'were given'.
त्रुटि भाग B में है। 'Each' हमेशा एकवचन होता है और एकवचन क्रिया लेता है। सही रूप 'was given' होना चाहिए 'were given' नहीं।

समाधान का रास्ता: "Each of the employees" — "Each" singular है। Part B में "were given" गलत है, "was given" होना चाहिए।

क्यों यह प्रश्न: Indirect Speech में "that + WH-word" का गलत combination — यह IBPS Clerk में नया pattern है।

Previous Year Questionपिछले वर्ष का प्रश्न
The following sentence has been divided into parts. One of them may contain an error. Select the part that contains the error. If there is no error, select 'No error'. (A) He asked me / (B) that where I was going / (C) at such a late hour / (D) No error
  1. A
  2. B
  3. C
  4. D
Solutionसमाधान
The error is in part B. In indirect questions, we don't use 'that' with question words like 'where'. The correct form should be 'He asked me where I was going'.
त्रुटि भाग B में है। अप्रत्यक्ष प्रश्नों में, हम 'where' जैसे प्रश्नवाचक शब्दों के साथ 'that' का उपयोग नहीं करते। सही रूप 'He asked me where I was going' होना चाहिए।

समाधान का रास्ता: Part B में "that where" — WH-word "where" खुद conjunction है, "that" की ज़रूरत नहीं। "He asked me where I was going" सही है।

क्यों यह प्रश्न: "Despite of" — यह India में सबसे अधिक बोली जाने वाली गलती है, इसलिए exam में बार-बार आती है।

Previous Year Questionपिछले वर्ष का प्रश्न
The following sentence has been divided into parts. One of them may contain an error. Select the part that contains the error. If there is no error, select 'No error'. (A) Despite of the heavy rain, / (B) the match continued / (C) as scheduled / (D) No error
  1. A
  2. B
  3. C
  4. D
Solutionसमाधान
The error is in part A. 'Despite' is not followed by 'of'. The correct form is either 'Despite the heavy rain' or 'In spite of the heavy rain'.
त्रुटि भाग A में है। 'Despite' के बाद 'of' नहीं आता। सही रूप 'Despite the heavy rain' या 'In spite of the heavy rain' है।

समाधान का रास्ता: Part A में "Despite of" — "Despite" के बाद "of" नहीं आता। या तो "Despite the heavy rain" या "In spite of the heavy rain" — दोनों में से एक।
