NDA अंग्रेज़ी व्याकरण और प्रयोग — कर्ता-क्रिया अनुरूपता, काल, articles और prepositions

intermediate 18 min read

2. Parts of Speech (शब्द-भेद): हर शब्द किसी न किसी category में आता है — noun, verb, adjective, adverb, pronoun, preposition, conjunction, interjection। एक ही शब्द अलग-अलग context में अलग-अलग part of speech हो सकता है।

3. Articles (a/an/the): तीन छोटे शब्द — लेकिन इनके rules जटिल हैं। Definite (the) बनाम Indefinite (a/an) का चुनाव context पर निर्भर है।

4. Prepositions: "on", "in", "at", "by", "between" — ये छोटे शब्द relationship दिखाते हैं।

Critical Rules

Rule 1: Collective Nouns

यह NDA में सबसे ज़्यादा test होने वाला rule है। "staff", "team", "committee", "army", "jury", "family", "class" — ये सब collective nouns हैं।

NDA में अक्सर collective noun को एक unit दिखाया जाता है — इसलिए singular verb सही होती है।

Rule 2: Neither...Nor / Either...Or

यह rule Proximity का है — verb उस subject के अनुसार बनेगी जो verb के सबसे करीब हो।

Rule 3: Pronoun Case

Prepositions के बाद हमेशा object pronoun आता है।

| Subject Pronoun | Object Pronoun | |-----------------|----------------| | I | me | | he | him | | she | her | | we | us | | they | them |

"Between you and me" — "between" एक preposition है, इसलिए "I" नहीं, "me" आएगा।

गलत: "Between you and I..." सही: "Between you and me..."

Articles के Core Rules

Definite Article "The" का प्रयोग:

  1. Specific organizations और institutions के साथ: "The Indian Army", "The Air Force", "The United Nations"
  2. Unique चीज़ों के साथ: "The sun", "The moon", "The President"
  3. जब पहले से mention हो: "I saw a dog. The dog was fierce."
  4. Superlatives के साथ: "The best soldier"
  5. Rivers, mountain ranges, oceans के साथ: "The Himalayas", "The Ganga"

"A" vs "An":

ध्यान दो — sound देखो, spelling नहीं।

Prepositions के Fixed Uses

Prepositions को rules से नहीं, patterns से सीखो:

| Preposition | Use | उदाहरण | |-------------|-----|---------| | on | surfaces, days, open spaces | "on the parade ground", "on Monday" | | in | enclosed spaces, months, years | "in the room", "in January" | | at | specific points, times | "at 5 o'clock", "at the gate" | | by | deadline, agent, proximity | "by tomorrow", "by the river" | | between | two things/people | "between you and me" | | among | more than two | "among the cadets" |

Parts of Speech — Context Determines Everything

"Fast" एक ऐसा शब्द है जो तीन roles में आ सकता है:

NDA में underlined word का role उसकी position और function से पहचानो — अर्थ से नहीं।

Sentence Types — Quick Classification

| Type | पहचान | उदाहरण | |------|--------|---------| | Declarative | Statement, period | "He is brave." | | Interrogative | Question, question mark | "Is he brave?" | | Imperative | Command, no subject | "Stand at ease!" | | Exclamatory | Strong emotion, ! mark | "What a brave soldier!" |

"What a..." या "How..." से शुरू होने वाले वाक्य — भले ही "what" हो — exclamatory हैं, interrogative नहीं।

शॉर्टकट और युक्तियाँ

patternProximity Rule — Neither/Nor और Either/Or का अचूक नियम

जब भी "Neither...nor" या "Either...or" दिखे, सीधे verb के ठीक पहले वाले subject को देखो।

Slow method: दोनों subjects analyze करो, rule याद करो, apply करो — 40 seconds।

Fast method: "Verb के पड़ोसी subject" की number देखो — 8 seconds।

उदाहरण: "Neither the officers nor the soldier ___ present." "soldier" singular → verb "was" — बस इतना।

patternArticle Trick — Specific Organizations को पहचानो

जब भी किसी organization, armed force, या unique institution का नाम हो — automatic "The" लगाओ।

Standard approach: vowel/consonant check → specific/general check → unique/common check — 3 steps, 30 seconds।

Fast approach: Armed Forces + Institutions = "The" — 1 step, 5 seconds।

"The Indian Air Force", "The Navy", "The Supreme Court" — pattern fix करो।

patternPreposition Shortcut — On/In/At का Triangle

तीन concentric circles की कल्पना करो:

  • सबसे बड़ा circle = in (enclosed, big spaces — "in the city", "in a room")
  • उससे छोटा = on (surface, open ground — "on the field", "on a table")
  • सबसे छोटा point = at (exact point — "at the door", "at 6 PM")

Standard method: हर preposition के rules याद करो — 5+ rules, 45 seconds। Shortcut: Circle size match करो — 3 levels, 10 seconds।

eliminationPronoun Case — Preposition के बाद I कभी नहीं

जब भी preposition (between, for, with, to, from, by, of) के बाद pronoun आए — "I", "he", "she", "we", "they" automatically eliminate करो।

केवल object forms रहते हैं: "me", "him", "her", "us", "them"।

"Between you and ___" → "I" eliminate → "me" — 5 seconds। Standard method: subject vs object pronoun theory याद करना — 20 seconds।

patternExclamatory vs Interrogative — What/How का असली test

"What" या "How" से शुरू होने वाले वाक्य देखो:

  • अगर verb के बाद subject आता है → Interrogative ("What is he doing?")
  • अगर "What a..." या "How + adjective + subject + verb!" pattern है → Exclamatory ("What a brave soldier he is!")

Exclamatory में normal subject-verb order होता है — interrogative में inversion। Standard method: punctuation और meaning दोनों check करो — 2 steps। Fast method: Inversion है तो Interrogative, नहीं है तो Exclamatory — 1 step, 8 seconds।

तेज़-समाधान रूपरेखा

परीक्षा हॉल में grammar question देखते ही यह sequence follow करो:

Step 1 — Question Type पहचानो (3 seconds)

Step 2 — High-Probability Error Zones Check करो (10 seconds)

Step 3 — Elimination (7 seconds) जो options clearly wrong हैं — काटो। अक्सर 2 options पहले 5 seconds में eliminate हो जाती हैं।

Step 4 — Confirm करो (5 seconds) चुना हुआ option वापस sentence में डालो और पढ़ो — natural लगे तो सही।

कुल time: 25 seconds per grammar question। अगर 25 seconds में नहीं आ रहा — mark and move on।

हल किए गए PYQs

क्यों यह प्रश्न: Collective noun "staff" का singular/plural usage NDA में classic trap है। यह समझना ज़रूरी है कि British English के "staff = plural" rule को standard exam context में apply नहीं करते।

Previous Year Questionपिछले वर्ष का प्रश्न2026
Identify the error in the underlined parts: (a) The project staff are (b) working on the weekend (c) so as not to delay (d) the project any further.
  1. The project staff are
  2. working on the weekend
  3. so as not to delay
  4. the project any further
Solutionसमाधान
The word 'staff' is a collective noun. While in British English it can take a plural verb when emphasizing individual members, in standard usage and especially when the staff is considered as a single unit working on a project, the singular verb 'is' is preferred. The sentence 'The project staff are' should be 'The project staff is' since the staff is treated as a single body working collectively on the project. Therefore, the error is in part (a).

समाधान का रास्ता: "Staff" देखते ही सोचो — क्या यहाँ individual members की बात है या पूरी unit की? "Working on the weekend" — पूरी unit एक साथ काम कर रही है → singular unit → "is" सही है। Part (a) में error है।

क्यों यह प्रश्न: "What a..." pattern को interrogative समझना सबसे common गलती है। यह question sentence-type identification की समझ test करता है।

Previous Year Questionपिछले वर्ष का प्रश्न
Identify the type of sentence: 'What a brave soldier he is!'
  1. Interrogative
  2. Exclamatory
  3. Imperative
  4. Declarative
Solutionसमाधान
This is an exclamatory sentence as it expresses strong emotion or feeling and ends with an exclamation mark. It shows admiration for the soldier's bravery.
यह एक exclamatory sentence है क्योंकि यह तीव्र भावना व्यक्त करता है और exclamation mark से समाप्त होता है। यह सैनिक की बहादुरी के लिए प्रशंसा दिखाता है।

समाधान का रास्ता: "What a brave soldier he is!" — subject-verb order normal है (he is), inversion नहीं है। Exclamation mark है। तीव्र भावना (प्रशंसा) है। → Exclamatory। "Interrogative" eliminate — वहाँ inversion होती।

क्यों यह प्रश्न: एक ही शब्द "fast" कई parts of speech में आ सकता है। यह question context-based identification test करता है।

Previous Year Questionपिछले वर्ष का प्रश्न
Identify the part of speech of the underlined word: 'The fast train arrived on time.'
  1. Noun
  2. Verb
  3. Adjective
  4. Adverb
Solutionसमाधान
In this sentence, 'fast' is an adjective as it describes the noun 'train'. It tells us what kind of train it is - a fast one.
इस वाक्य में 'fast' एक adjective है क्योंकि यह noun 'train' का वर्णन करता है। यह बताता है कि यह कैसी train है - एक तेज़ train।

समाधान का रास्ता: "The fast train" — "fast" के बाद noun "train" है। जो शब्द noun से पहले आकर उसे describe करे → Adjective। Verb और Adverb eliminate क्योंकि यहाँ "fast" किसी action को modify नहीं कर रहा।

क्यों यह प्रश्न: "Between you and I" एक बहुत common hypercorrection है — लोग "educated" लगने के लिए "I" बोलते हैं, लेकिन यह grammatically गलत है।

Previous Year Questionपिछले वर्ष का प्रश्न
Choose the correct form of the pronoun: 'Between you and _____, this mission is challenging.'
  1. I
  2. me
  3. myself
  4. mine
Solutionसमाधान
After prepositions like 'between', we use object pronouns. 'Me' is the correct object form of the pronoun 'I'.
Prepositions जैसे 'between' के बाद object pronouns का प्रयोग होता है। 'Me', pronoun 'I' का सही object form है।

समाधान का रास्ता: "Between" एक preposition है। Preposition के बाद object pronoun आता है। "I" subject pronoun है — eliminate। "me" object pronoun है → सही उत्तर। "myself" reflexive है — केवल तब जब subject और object same हो।

क्यों यह प्रश्न: Armed Forces के नाम से पहले article का प्रयोग NDA के military context में directly relevant है।

Previous Year Questionपिछले वर्ष का प्रश्न
Choose the correct article: _____ Indian Air Force is known for its excellence.
  1. A
  2. An
  3. The
  4. No article needed
Solutionसमाधान
The definite article 'The' is used before proper nouns that refer to specific organizations, institutions, or unique entities like armed forces.
Definite article 'The' का प्रयोग उन proper nouns से पहले किया जाता है जो specific organizations, institutions या unique entities जैसे armed forces को refer करते हैं।

समाधान का रास्ता: "Indian Air Force" — specific, unique institution। "The" definite article specific और unique entities के साथ आता है। "A/An" indefinite articles हैं — किसी specific Air Force की बात हो रही है, इसलिए "A/An" eliminate। "No article" गलत क्योंकि institutional names को "The" चाहिए।

क्यों यह प्रश्न: Neither/Nor के साथ subject-verb agreement NDA में error-spotting का classic question है।

Previous Year Questionपिछले वर्ष का प्रश्न
Identify the error in the sentence: 'Neither the captain nor the soldiers was ready for the mission.'
  1. Neither should be Either
  2. nor should be or
  3. was should be were
  4. No error
Solutionसमाधान
In 'neither...nor' constructions, the verb agrees with the subject closer to it. Since 'soldiers' is plural and closer to the verb, it should be 'were' not 'was'.
'Neither...nor' constructions में verb उस subject के साथ agree करती है जो verb के पास हो। यहाँ 'soldiers' plural है और verb के पास है, इसलिए 'were' होना चाहिए 'was' नहीं।

समाधान का रास्ता: "Neither the captain nor the soldiers was ready" — Proximity rule: verb ("was") के पास "soldiers" है जो plural है। इसलिए "were" होना चाहिए। Option C सही है। Option A और B grammar rules के विरुद्ध हैं।

क्यों यह प्रश्न: "Parade ground" के साथ सही preposition — military context में directly relevant, और "on/in/at" का confusion test करता है।

Previous Year Questionपिछले वर्ष का प्रश्न
Choose the correct preposition: The cadets assembled _____ the parade ground.
  1. in
  2. on
  3. at
  4. by
Solutionसमाधान
The preposition 'on' is used with open spaces like grounds, fields, and surfaces. 'On the parade ground' is the correct usage for military context.
Preposition 'on' का प्रयोग खुले स्थानों जैसे grounds, fields और surfaces के साथ किया जाता है। Military context में 'on the parade ground' सही प्रयोग है।

समाधान का रास्ता: "Parade ground" एक खुला, flat surface है। Surface और open spaces के साथ "on" आता है। "In" enclosed spaces के लिए है — eliminate। "At" specific point के लिए है — "parade ground" एक extended surface है, point नहीं — eliminate। "By" proximity के लिए है — यहाँ cadets ground पर assembled हैं, उसके पास नहीं — eliminate।
