समानार्थी और विलोम शब्द — यह topic सुनने में सरल लगता है, लेकिन NDA GAT में यह सबसे ज़्यादा "trap" करने वाला section है। यहाँ परीक्षक तुम्हारी surface-level जानकारी नहीं, बल्कि शब्द की nuance और context-sensitivity परखता है।
समानार्थी (Synonym): वे शब्द जो किसी दिए गए शब्द के अर्थ के सबसे करीब हों। ध्यान रहे — दो शब्द कभी 100% identical नहीं होते। "Brave" और "Valiant" दोनों साहस के लिए हैं, लेकिन "Valiant" में विशेष रूप से युद्ध या संघर्ष का connotation है।
विलोम (Antonym): वे शब्द जो दिए गए शब्द के विपरीत अर्थ रखते हों। लेकिन "विपरीत" का मतलब सिर्फ opposite नहीं, बल्कि most contrary होता है।
एक analogy समझो: यदि एक शब्द एक दिशा में जाने वाली गाड़ी है, तो उसका synonym उसी दिशा में थोड़ा अलग lane में जाने वाली गाड़ी है, और antonym बिल्कुल उलटी दिशा में जाने वाली गाड़ी है। परीक्षक तुम्हें वह option देता है जो "थोड़ा अलग lane" में है, और तुम उसे synonym मान बैठते हो।
NDA की परीक्षा में यह topic इसलिए महत्वपूर्ण है क्योंकि:
NDA के questions में rarely एक word का perfect synonym पूछा जाता है। अधिकतर "most nearly similar in meaning" पूछा जाता है। इसका अर्थ है कि तुम्हें degree of meaning समझनी होगी।

यह देखो — "Antipathy", "Revulsion", "Aversion" तीनों एक ही cluster में हैं। जब question में इनमें से कोई एक दिखे और पूछा जाए "what does the blank need?", तो immediately इस cluster को mentally activate करो।
जब sentence completion या fill-in-the-blank format में vocabulary पूछी जाए, तो यह 3-step process follow करो:
Step 1 — Blank के आसपास के keywords देखो: "leaving room for multiple interpretations" → यह phrase ambiguity को define कर रहा है।
Step 2 — Options को positive/negative/neutral में categorize करो:
Step 3 — Sentence की "logical direction" देखो: यदि sentence में multiple interpretations की बात है, तो blank में अस्पष्टता वाला शब्द आना चाहिए → Ambiguous सही है।
"Allegory" और "Parable" दोनों moral stories हैं। यह NDA 2026 का actual question था। फ़र्क यह है:
Jataka Tales के context में "parables" अधिक सटीक synonym है क्योंकि ये छोटी moral narratives हैं। यहाँ तुम्हें context पढ़कर decide करना था, न कि isolated definition से।
जब synonym/antonym question में दो-तीन options एक ही meaning दे रहे हों, तो वे सब wrong distractors हैं — सही उत्तर अकेला खड़ा होगा।
उदाहरण: "SURRENDER" का antonym पूछा गया। Options: Capitulate, Resist, Submit, Yield। यहाँ Capitulate + Submit + Yield तीनों surrender के synonyms हैं। यह cluster तुरंत identify करो — तो सही antonym "Resist" है।
Standard method: हर option individually check करना → 60 seconds। यह shortcut: cluster identify करो → 15 seconds।
किसी भी antonym question में पहले यह तय करो कि given word positive है या negative। फिर opposite polarity वाले options में से choose करो।
BELLIGERENT → यह negative/hostile word है। Antonym positive/peaceful होगा। Options: Aggressive (-), Peaceful (+), Hostile (-), Combative (-) → सिर्फ Peaceful (+) बचता है।
यह method तब और powerful है जब तुम्हें word का exact meaning न पता हो — polarity से ही eliminate कर सकते हो।
Standard method: सभी options translate करना → 45 seconds। Polarity filter → 10 seconds, 3 options automatically eliminate।
Synonym questions में जब options में degree of intensity हो, तो given word की intensity से match करो।
VALOR (high-intensity courage, specifically in war) के options: Bravery, Cowardice, Heroism, Courage। Bravery और Courage general हैं। Heroism high-intensity है लेकिन यह antonym question था — Cowardice सही answer था।
Rule: यदि given word specific/intense है, तो synonym भी specific/intense होना चाहिए। General words को eliminate करो।
Step count: General approach = 4 options check = 4 steps। Intensity ranking = given word rank करो, फिर closest rank वाला चुनो = 2 steps।
Context-based vocabulary question में blank को एक simple 5-word sentence में replace करके test करो।
प्रश्न: "The general's _______ for detail ensured..." Skeleton बनाओ: "General को detail में _______ थी।" अब options substitute करो: antipathy (नापसंद), penchant (झुकाव/रुचि), aversion (नफ़रत), revulsion (घृणा)। जो positive और "detail पर ध्यान" के लिए logical हो → penchant।
Standard method: Full sentence पढ़कर eliminate करना → 50 seconds। Skeleton method → 20 seconds।
जब word bilkul नया हो, तो Latin/Greek roots से meaning reconstruct करो।
BELLIGERENT: "Belli-" = war (जैसे bellicose, rebel), "-gerent" = carrying/waging। तो BELLIGERENT = war-waging = आक्रामक।
कुछ high-frequency roots:
Root recognition: 5-word roots याद = 15+ new words automatically decode। Rote memorization: 15 words अलग-अलग याद करो = 15x effort।

समाधान का रास्ता: Context: general की _______ for detail ने operation को thorough बनाया। यह positive outcome है, तो blank positive होना चाहिए। Antipathy (-) = नापसंद, Revulsion (-) = घृणा, Aversion (-) = नफ़रत → तीनों negative और "detail के लिए positive रुचि" से opposite → eliminate। Penchant (+) = strong inclination/liking → correct।
Synonym और Antonym का direction उलट देना: जब question में "opposite" लिखा हो तो भी synonym चुन लेते हैं। हर question में पहली चीज़ यह confirm करो — synonym चाहिए या antonym। यह mental check skip मत करो।
Most frequent word को सही मानना: "VALOR" के साथ "Courage" और "Bravery" दोनों synonyms हैं — antonym question में दोनों wrong हैं। Most common/familiar word automatically correct नहीं होता।
Context को ignore करके isolated definition से answer देना: "Allegory" का dictionary synonym कुछ और हो सकता है, लेकिन Jataka Tales के context में "parables" correct है। Context always overrides isolated definition।
Near-antonyms को exact antonyms मानना: "SURRENDER" का near-antonym "Fight" हो सकता है, लेकिन options में "Resist" दिया है जो given context में best fit है। "Best opposite" ढूंढो, "perfect opposite" नहीं।
Military cluster की words को general English से confuse करना: "Discipline" का common अर्थ "punishment" भी होता है, लेकिन military context में इसका अर्थ "orderly compliance" है। NDA के context में military meaning को priority दो।
एक word के multiple meanings में से गलत meaning लेना: "Ambiguous" को कुछ students "ambitious" से confuse करते हैं। Root words और phonetically similar words को deliberately confuse करना NDA का known trap है — पढ़ते समय ध्यान से spelling confirm करो।
