1. Subject-Verb Agreement — सबसे ज़्यादा परखी जाने वाली त्रुटि

यह सबसे fertile ground है error spotters के लिए। नियम सरल है: singular subject → singular verb, plural subject → plural verb। लेकिन setters इसे tricky बनाते हैं।

Trap 1: Distributive Pronouns

'Each', 'every', 'either', 'neither', 'anyone', 'everyone', 'someone' — ये सभी हमेशा singular हैं, भले ही इनके बाद plural noun आए।

Each of the candidates was required (न कि 'were required') Every one of the books has been read (न कि 'have been')

Trap 2: Collective Nouns

'Board', 'committee', 'jury', 'team', 'government', 'staff' — जब ये एक इकाई के रूप में काम करें तो singular verb लगती है।

The board of directors has decided (एक इकाई के रूप में निर्णय) The jury was unanimous in its verdict

लेकिन ध्यान रखो — अगर collective noun के सदस्य individually काम करें, तो plural verb भी सही हो सकती है। RBI के paper में लगभग हमेशा institutional context होता है जहाँ singular verb ही सही होगी।

Trap 3: Intervening Phrases

Subject और verb के बीच prepositional phrase आ जाए तो confusion होती है:

The quality of the products has improved (subject है 'quality', न कि 'products') The board of directors has met (subject है 'board')

2. Preposition की Fixed Errors

कुछ preposition errors इतनी common हैं कि इन्हें एक बार देख लो तो exam में सेकंडों में पकड़ लोगे:

| गलत प्रयोग | सही प्रयोग | नियम | |---|---|---| | Despite of | Despite | 'Despite' अकेला preposition है, 'of' नहीं चाहिए | | In spite of | सही है | यहाँ 'of' ज़रूरी है | | Discuss about | Discuss | Transitive verb, direct object लेती है | | Reach to | Reach | Transitive verb | | Return back | Return | 'Back' redundant है | | Cope up with | Cope with | 'Up' redundant है |

'Despite' बनाम 'In spite of' का फ़र्क:

दोनों का अर्थ एक ही है, लेकिन structure अलग है:

3. Confusable Words — Affect बनाम Effect

यह RBI के banking context में बार-बार आता है:

Exam में जब देखो "will effect significant changes" — रुको। यहाँ verb चाहिए 'affect' (प्रभावित करना)। 'Effect' का verb रूप 'to effect change' अलग अर्थ में है।

4. Redundancy और Verbosity

'Due to the fact that' एक classic redundant phrase है। Grammar की दृष्टि से यह गलत नहीं है, लेकिन standard English में इसे bloated माना जाता है और कई exams इसे error के रूप में mark करते हैं। सीधे 'because' या 'since' प्रयोग करो।

अन्य redundant phrases जो error हो सकते हैं:

5. Pronoun-Antecedent Agreement

'Each of the candidates' के बाद 'their' आए तो यह technically गलत है — 'each' singular है, इसलिए pronoun भी singular होना चाहिए ('his/her')। हालाँकि आधुनिक usage में 'their' को acceptable माना जाने लगा है, RBI Grade B के exam में classic rule follow होती है।

शॉर्टकट और युक्तियाँ

patternSUBJECT-FINDER तकनीक

जब भी 'of the...' phrase दिखे, उसे bracket में बंद करो और verb को सीधे उससे पहले वाले word से match करो।

उदाहरण: "The board [of directors] has/have decided" → 'board' singular है → 'has decided' सही

"The quality [of the products] has/have improved" → 'quality' singular है → 'has improved' सही

Standard method: पूरा वाक्य पढ़ो और confuse हो जाओ — 20-25 seconds SUBJECT-FINDER: bracket लगाओ, 5 seconds में subject पकड़ो — 8 seconds Step count: 4 steps → 2 steps

eliminationDESPITE-SPITE SPLIT

परीक्षा में जब भी Part A में 'Despite of' या 'In spite' दिखे, तुरंत check करो:

  • 'Despite' → अगला word 'of' है → ERROR (हमेशा)
  • 'In spite' → अगला word 'of' है → CORRECT (हमेशा)

यह binary rule है — कोई exception नहीं। एक बार memory में lock हो गया तो 3 seconds में answer।

Standard method: पूरा वाक्य grammar से analyze करो — 30 seconds DESPITE-SPITE SPLIT: Part A देखते ही 'of' check करो — 3 seconds

eliminationDISCUSS/REACH/MENTION TEST

ये तीन verbs exam में सबसे ज़्यादा misused होती हैं। Rule याद करने की ज़रूरत नहीं — बस इन्हें 'transitive trio' कहो और याद रखो कि इनके बाद सीधे object आता है, कोई preposition नहीं।

  • Discuss the proposal (न कि 'discuss about')
  • Reach the station (न कि 'reach to')
  • Mention the point (न कि 'mention about')

अगर इनके बाद preposition दिखे → error confirmed।

Standard method: verb + preposition का usage याद करो — memory-intensive TRANSITIVE TRIO: तीन verbs याद करो, preposition दिखे तो error — 2 seconds per check

substitutionAFFECT-EFFECT QUICK TEST

'Affect' बनाम 'Effect' confusion को एक substitution से solve करो: जहाँ यह word है, वहाँ 'influence' (प्रभावित करना) रखकर देखो।

  • अगर 'influence' fit हो → 'affect' चाहिए (verb)
  • अगर 'result' या 'outcome' fit हो → 'effect' चाहिए (noun)

"The policy will ___ the market" → 'influence' fit होता है → 'affect' सही "The ___ of the policy was positive" → 'result' fit होता है → 'effect' सही

Standard method: दोनों का अर्थ याद करके compare करो — 15 seconds INFLUENCE TEST: एक word substitute करो — 5 seconds

patternEACH/EVERY SINGULAR LOCK

'Each', 'every', 'either', 'neither' दिखे तो verb हमेशा singular — कोई exception नहीं। इन्हें 'EEEN lock' कहो (Each, Every, Either, Neither = singular lock).

इनके साथ plural noun देखकर confuse मत होना: "Each of the employees was given a bonus" (employees plural है, लेकिन each singular है) "Neither of the options is correct"

EEEN lock देखते ही singular verb confirm — 2 seconds Standard method: पूरा structure analyze करो — 20 seconds

तेज़-समाधान रूपरेखा

परीक्षा में हर error spotting question पर यह decision tree follow करो:

Step 1 — Subject-Verb scan (3 seconds): Part B या C में verb दिखे। Subject identify करो (SUBJECT-FINDER trick से)। Number match करो। अगर mismatch मिले → वही answer है।

Step 2 — Preposition check (3 seconds): 'Despite of', 'discuss about', 'reach to', 'cope up with' में से कोई दिखे → error confirmed।

Step 3 — Confusable word check (3 seconds): 'Effect/Affect', 'Then/Than', 'Less/Fewer' — इन्हें spot करो। INFLUENCE TEST apply करो।

Step 4 — Redundancy check (2 seconds): 'Due to the fact that', 'return back', 'repeat again' — अगर ऐसा कुछ दिखे → error।

Step 5 — "No Error" option: अगर ऊपर के चारों steps में कुछ नहीं मिला → No Error select करो। इस option पर ज़्यादा समय waste मत करो।

कुल समय target: 45-60 seconds per question। अगर 60 seconds से ज़्यादा लग रहा है → mark and move on।

हल किए गए PYQs

क्यों यह प्रश्न: 'Each' के साथ verb agreement की यह सबसे classic trap है। RBI paper में distributive pronouns बार-बार आते हैं।

Previous Year Questionपिछले वर्ष का प्रश्न
Each of the candidates / were required to submit / their application forms / before the deadline.
  1. Each of the candidates
  2. were required to submit
  3. their application forms
  4. before the deadline
Solutionसमाधान
The error is in part B. 'Each' is always singular, so it should be 'was required' instead of 'were required'. When 'each' is the subject, the verb must be singular regardless of the following plural noun.
त्रुटि भाग B में है। 'Each' हमेशा एकवचन होता है, इसलिए 'were required' के बजाय 'was required' होना चाहिए। जब 'each' कर्ता होता है, तो क्रिया एकवचन होनी चाहिए चाहे उसके बाद बहुवचन संज्ञा हो।

समाधान का रास्ता: Part B में verb 'were required' दिखते ही EEEN lock apply करो। Subject है 'Each' (न कि 'candidates') → singular → 'was required' चाहिए। 'Of the candidates' bracket में बंद करो और ignore करो।

क्यों यह प्रश्न: Collective noun 'board' का यह RBI-specific context है। Banking exams में board/committee/committee decisions बहुत आते हैं।

Previous Year Questionपिछले वर्ष का प्रश्न
The board of directors / have decided to implement / new policies that will / benefit all employees.
  1. The board of directors
  2. have decided to implement
  3. new policies that will
  4. benefit all employees
Solutionसमाधान
The error is in part B. 'Board' is a collective noun treated as singular in this context, so it should be 'has decided' instead of 'have decided'. The board acts as a single unit making decisions.
त्रुटि भाग B में है। 'Board' एक सामूहिक संज्ञा है जिसे इस संदर्भ में एकवचन माना जाता है, इसलिए 'have decided' के बजाय 'has decided' होना चाहिए। बोर्ड एक इकाई के रूप में निर्णय लेता है।

समाधान का रास्ता: 'Board of directors' — SUBJECT-FINDER से bracket लगाओ: 'board [of directors]'। 'Board' singular institutional unit है → 'has decided' चाहिए। 'Have decided' गलत है।

क्यों यह प्रश्न: 'Despite of' एक ऐसी error है जो native speakers भी करते हैं। RBI के formal document context में यह critical है।

Previous Year Questionपिछले वर्ष का प्रश्न
Despite of the heavy rainfall / and adverse weather conditions, / the rescue team managed / to complete their mission successfully.
  1. Despite of the heavy rainfall
  2. and adverse weather conditions,
  3. the rescue team managed
  4. to complete their mission successfully
Solutionसमाधान
The error is in part A. 'Despite' is never followed by 'of'. It should be either 'Despite the heavy rainfall' or 'In spite of the heavy rainfall'. 'Despite' is a preposition that doesn't require 'of'.
त्रुटि भाग A में है। 'Despite' के बाद कभी 'of' नहीं आता। यह 'Despite the heavy rainfall' या 'In spite of the heavy rainfall' होना चाहिए। 'Despite' एक पूर्वसर्ग है जिसके बाद 'of' की आवश्यकता नहीं है।

समाधान का रास्ता: Part A में 'Despite of' देखते ही DESPITE-SPITE SPLIT apply करो। 'Despite' के बाद 'of' → immediate error। सही form: 'Despite the heavy rainfall' या 'In spite of the heavy rainfall'।

क्यों यह प्रश्न: 'Due to the fact that' बनाम 'because' — यह formal writing की एक nuanced error है जो RBI Grade B जैसे officer-level exams में आती है।

Previous Year Questionपिछले वर्ष का प्रश्न
The meeting was postponed / due to the fact that / many key stakeholders / could not attend it.
  1. The meeting was postponed
  2. due to the fact that
  3. many key stakeholders
  4. could not attend it
Solutionसमाधान
The error is in part B. 'Due to the fact that' is wordy and incorrect. It should be 'because' or 'since'. 'Due to' should be followed by a noun or noun phrase, not a clause.
त्रुटि भाग B में है। 'Due to the fact that' अनावश्यक रूप से लंबा और गलत है। यह 'because' या 'since' होना चाहिए। 'Due to' के बाद संज्ञा या संज्ञा वाक्यांश आना चाहिए, उपवाक्य नहीं।

समाधान का रास्ता: 'Due to' के बाद noun/noun phrase आना चाहिए, clause नहीं। 'Due to the fact that many key stakeholders could not attend' — यहाँ 'that' के बाद पूरा clause है। इसे 'because' से replace करो: 'because many key stakeholders could not attend'।

क्यों यह प्रश्न: 'Discuss about' transitive verb misuse का classic example है। Banking और corporate context में formal writing में यह error बहुत होती है।

Previous Year Questionपिछले वर्ष का प्रश्न
The committee members / discussed about the proposal / thoroughly before reaching / a unanimous decision.
  1. The committee members
  2. discussed about the proposal
  3. thoroughly before reaching
  4. a unanimous decision
Solutionसमाधान
The error is in part B. 'Discuss' is a transitive verb and doesn't need the preposition 'about'. It should be 'discussed the proposal' instead of 'discussed about the proposal'. The verb 'discuss' directly takes an object.
त्रुटि भाग B में है। 'Discuss' एक सकर्मक क्रिया है और इसके बाद 'about' पूर्वसर्ग की आवश्यकता नहीं है। 'discussed about the proposal' के बजाय 'discussed the proposal' होना चाहिए। क्रिया 'discuss' सीधे कर्म लेती है।

समाधान का रास्ता: Part B में 'discussed about the proposal' — TRANSITIVE TRIO check। 'Discuss' transitive verb है, direct object लेती है। 'About' redundant और गलत है। सही: 'discussed the proposal'।

क्यों यह प्रश्न: Affect/Effect confusion banking policy documents में अत्यंत relevant है। 'Effect' का verb form exists करता है, लेकिन उसका अर्थ 'affect' से बिल्कुल अलग है।

Previous Year Questionपिछले वर्ष का प्रश्न
The bank's new policy / will effect significant changes / in the loan approval process / starting from next quarter.
  1. The bank's new policy
  2. will effect significant changes
  3. in the loan approval process
  4. starting from next quarter
Solutionसमाधान
The error is in part B. 'Effect' is a noun, but here we need the verb 'affect'. The correct phrase should be 'will affect significant changes'. 'Affect' means to influence or cause change.
त्रुटि भाग B में है। 'Effect' एक संज्ञा है, लेकिन यहाँ हमें क्रिया 'affect' की आवश्यकता है। सही वाक्य 'will affect significant changes' होना चाहिए। 'Affect' का अर्थ प्रभावित करना या परिवर्तन लाना है।

समाधान का रास्ता: Part B में 'will effect significant changes' — INFLUENCE TEST apply करो। "The policy will influence significant changes" — यह सही लगता है, इसलिए verb चाहिए 'affect'। 'Effect' यहाँ noun है, verb नहीं। सही: 'will affect significant changes'।

क्यों यह प्रश्न: Intervening phrase के कारण subject-verb mismatch — 'profits' को subject मानने की trap। Financial reports में यह structure बहुत आता है।

Previous Year Questionपिछले वर्ष का प्रश्न
The financial analyst's report / clearly indicates that / the company's profits has / increased substantially this year.
  1. The financial analyst's report
  2. clearly indicates that
  3. the company's profits has
  4. increased substantially this year
Solutionसमाधान
The error is in part C. 'Profits' is plural, so it should be 'have increased' instead of 'has increased'. The subject 'profits' requires a plural verb form.
त्रुटि भाग C में है। 'Profits' बहुवचन है, इसलिए 'has increased' के बजाय 'have increased' होना चाहिए। कर्ता 'profits' के साथ बहुवचन क्रिया का प्रयोग होना चाहिए।

समाधान का रास्ता: Part C में 'the company's profits has increased' — SUBJECT-FINDER: यहाँ subject है 'profits' (न कि 'company's')। 'Profits' plural है → 'have increased' चाहिए। 'Has increased' गलत है।
