SBI Clerk अंग्रेज़ी: वाक्य सुधार — व्याकरण के मुख्य नियम और परीक्षा रणनीति

intermediate 18 min read

एक सामान्य उदाहरण देखो: "The committee have decided..."

"Policies implemented by the government": "Policies" plural है — बीच में "implemented by the government" आने से subject नहीं बदलता। Verb "are" होगी।

२. Pronoun Case — "Between you and I" की गलती

Prepositions के बाद हमेशा objective case pronoun आता है: me, him, her, us, them।

Test: Preposition हटाओ और देखो कि अकेला pronoun कैसा लगेगा। "Between I" — clearly गलत। "Between me" — सही।

"Myself" का प्रयोग तभी होता है जब subject और object एक ही हो (reflexive use) — "I hurt myself" — या emphasis के लिए। "Between you and myself" गलत है।

३. Pronoun-Antecedent Agreement

Pronoun को उसके antecedent (जिस noun को वह replace करता है) की संख्या और gender से match करना होता है।

जब "their" आए, तो हमेशा पूछो: यह किसको refer कर रहा है? अगर antecedent singular है, तो "its" या "his/her" होगा।

४. Conditional Sentences — Tense की गणित

तीन प्रकार के conditionals और उनकी सही structure:

| Type | Condition | Structure | |------|-----------|-----------| | Type 1 (Real) | वर्तमान/भविष्य संभव | If + Present Simple, will + V1 | | Type 2 (Unreal Present) | वर्तमान अवास्तविक | If + Past Simple, would + V1 | | Type 3 (Unreal Past) | भूत अवास्तविक | If + Past Perfect, would/could have + V3 |

SBI Clerk में Type 3 सबसे ज़्यादा trap करता है:

If-clause में "would have" कभी नहीं आता — यह सबसे आम गलती है।

५. Prepositions — "Since" vs "For"

"Five years" एक duration है, specific point नहीं — इसलिए "for" आएगा।

६. Approach to vs Approach for

"Approach" के साथ सही preposition "to" है, "for" नहीं।

शॉर्टकट और युक्तियाँ

patternCollective Noun Singularity Test

जब भी "board", "committee", "jury", "team", "government", "staff" दिखे — immediately singular verb की तरफ जाओ। विकल्पों में "has/is/was" वाला option पहले देखो।

Micro-example: "The jury have delivered..." → "has" — सही answer।

Standard method: पूरा वाक्य parse करना = 40 seconds। Pattern: collective noun पहचानो → singular verb चुनो = 10 seconds।

patternProximity Rule for Neither-Nor

"Neither A nor B + verb" में — verb को B (जो verb के करीब है) से match करो। B singular = singular verb, B plural = plural verb।

Micro-example: "Neither the teachers nor the principal was..." (principal singular → was) | "Neither the principal nor the teachers were..." (teachers plural → were)

Standard method: दोनों subjects analyze करना = 35 seconds। Shortcut: सिर्फ B देखो = 8 seconds।

eliminationPreposition Pronoun Test

Preposition के बाद pronoun देखते ही test करो: Preposition हटाओ, pronoun अकेला रखो। अगर "I/he/she/we/they" (subjective) अजीब लगे — यह गलत है। "Between I" → गलत। "Between me" → सही।

Micro-example: "Between you and I" → Remove "between" → "you and I" alone = grammatically feels like subject, but यहाँ object चाहिए → "me" सही।

4 options में से "myself" और "I" immediately eliminate = 2 options रह जाते हैं → 1 correct। Steps: 5 से घटकर 2।

substitutionSince-For Duration Test

देखो कि time expression एक specific point है या duration। अगर number + time unit है ("five years", "three months", "two decades") → for। अगर specific moment है ("2019", "Monday", "last year") → since

Micro-example: "Since/For the past five years" → "five years" = duration → "for"।

Standard method: grammar rule याद करना = 30 seconds। Test: "क्या मैं 'five years' पर खड़ा हो सकता हूँ?" → नहीं = for। = 5 seconds।

eliminationIf-Clause Would Filter

If-clause में "would" या "would have" दिखे → यह 99% गलत है। Conditional का नियम: If-clause में कभी "would" नहीं आता। Type 2 में "were/was", Type 3 में "had + V3" आता है।

Micro-example: "If conditions would have been..." → would have = if-clause में → गलत → "had been" सही।

यह trick Type 3 conditionals में सीधे 1 option eliminate करती है। 4 options → 3 options instantly। Time saved: 20 seconds।

तेज़-समाधान रूपरेखा

परीक्षा हॉल में वाक्य सुधार के प्रश्न को इस क्रम में attack करो:

Step 1 — Underlined part को scan करो (5 seconds): क्या underlined हिस्से में verb है? → Subject-Verb Agreement check करो। क्या pronoun है? → Case check करो (preposition के बाद objective case?)। क्या "if" clause है? → Conditional type identify करो। क्या "since/for" है? → Duration vs point check करो।

Step 2 — Error identify करो, फिर options देखो (10 seconds): पहले error ढूंढो। फिर उसे fix करने वाला option खोजो। Options पहले मत देखो — वे तुम्हें confuse करते हैं।

Step 3 — "No improvement" को आखिरी विकल्प मानो (5 seconds): अगर कोई error नहीं मिली और तीनों options में से कोई clearly बेहतर नहीं दिखता — तब "No improvement" चुनो। पहले यह मत चुनो।

Decision tree: Verb गलत → Subject-Verb Agreement | Tense गलत → Conditional Rule | Pronoun गलत → Case/Antecedent | Preposition गलत → Since-For / Approach to

हल किए गए PYQs

क्यों यह प्रश्न: Collective noun के साथ singular verb का सबसे classic example। "Board of directors" हर परीक्षा में किसी न किसी रूप में आता है।

Previous Year Questionपिछले वर्ष का प्रश्न
The board of directors have unanimously decided to implement the new policy across all branches with immediate effect.
  1. The board of directors has unanimously decided to implement
  2. The board of directors have unanimously decided for implementing
  3. The board of directors had unanimously decided to implement
  4. No improvement required
Solutionसमाधान
The subject 'board of directors' is a collective noun treated as singular, requiring the singular verb 'has' instead of 'have'. The phrase 'decided to implement' is correct usage.
विषय 'बोर्ड ऑफ डायरेक्टर्स' एक सामूहिक संज्ञा है जिसे एकवचन माना जाता है, इसलिए 'have' के बजाय एकवचन क्रिया 'has' की आवश्यकता है। वाक्यांश 'decided to implement' सही प्रयोग है।

समाधान का रास्ता: Subject identify करो: "board" (collective noun, singular unit) → verb "have" गलत → "has" सही। Option A में "has" है और "decided to implement" सही preposition structure है। Option C "had" past perfect है जो context में गलत है।

क्यों यह प्रश्न: Intervening phrase का classic trap। "Complaints" पढ़कर candidates "are" को सही मान लेते हैं — subject "approach" है, "complaints" नहीं।

Previous Year Questionपिछले वर्ष का प्रश्न
The new manager's approach to handling customer complaints are both innovative and effective in resolving issues promptly.
  1. The new manager's approach to handling customer complaints is both innovative
  2. The new manager's approaches to handling customer complaints are both innovative
  3. The new manager's approach for handling customer complaints are both innovative
  4. No improvement required
Solutionसमाधान
The subject is 'approach' (singular), so the verb should be 'is' not 'are'. The phrase 'approach to handling' is the correct prepositional usage.
विषय 'approach' (एकवचन) है, इसलिए क्रिया 'is' होनी चाहिए, 'are' नहीं। वाक्यांश 'approach to handling' सही पूर्वसर्गीय प्रयोग है।

समाधान का रास्ता: Subject ढूंढो: "approach" (singular) → "are" गलत → "is" चाहिए। Option A में "is" है। Option B "approaches" (plural) बनाता है जो context नहीं माँगता। Option C में "for" गलत preposition है।

क्यों यह प्रश्न: Pronoun-Antecedent Agreement का trap। "Customers" को देखकर "their" सही लगता है, पर pronoun "bank" को refer करता है।

Previous Year Questionपिछले वर्ष का प्रश्न
The bank's new digital platform provides customers with more convenience and accessibility than their previous system.
  1. The bank's new digital platform provides customers with more convenience and accessibility than its previous system
  2. The bank's new digital platform provide customers with more convenience and accessibility than their previous system
  3. The bank's new digital platform provides customers with more convenience and accessibility then their previous system
  4. No improvement required
Solutionसमाधान
The pronoun should refer to 'the bank's system', so 'its' (referring to the bank) is correct, not 'their'. The platform belongs to the bank (singular).
सर्वनाम 'the bank's system' को संदर्भित करना चाहिए, इसलिए 'its' (बैंक को संदर्भित करते हुए) सही है, 'their' नहीं। प्लेटफॉर्म बैंक (एकवचन) का है।

समाधान का रास्ता: "Their previous system" — "their" किसको refer करता है? "The bank's platform" → bank singular → "its" सही। Option A में "its" है। Option C में "then" गलत है (comparison में "than" चाहिए)।

क्यों यह प्रश्न: Pronoun case का सबसे common error — "between you and I" एक बहुत प्रचलित लेकिन गलत phrase है।

Previous Year Questionपिछले वर्ष का प्रश्न
Between you and I, the new policy seems to favor senior employees more than the junior staff members.
  1. Between you and me, the new policy seems to favor senior employees
  2. Among you and I, the new policy seems to favor senior employees
  3. Between you and myself, the new policy seems to favor senior employees
  4. No improvement required
Solutionसमाधान
After prepositions like 'between', the objective case pronoun 'me' should be used, not the subjective case 'I'. 'Between you and me' is the correct idiomatic expression.
'Between' जैसे पूर्वसर्गों के बाद objective case सर्वनाम 'me' का प्रयोग होना चाहिए, subjective case 'I' का नहीं। 'Between you and me' सही मुहावरेदार अभिव्यक्ति है।

समाधान का रास्ता: "Between" एक preposition है → objective case चाहिए → "me" (not "I", not "myself")। Option A: "between you and me" — सही। Option B: "Among" गलत है (among 3+ के लिए)। Option C: "myself" reflexive है, यहाँ गलत।

क्यों यह प्रश्न: Type 3 Conditional का सबसे direct और परीक्षा में बार-बार आने वाला error pattern।

Previous Year Questionपिछले वर्ष का प्रश्न
If the economic conditions would have been more favorable, the company could have expanded its operations to international markets last year.
  1. If the economic conditions had been more favorable, the company could have expanded
  2. If the economic conditions were more favorable, the company could have expanded
  3. If the economic conditions would be more favorable, the company could have expanded
  4. No improvement required
Solutionसमाधान
This is a third conditional sentence referring to a past unreal situation. The correct structure is 'If + past perfect, would/could have + past participle'. 'Would have been' is incorrect in the if-clause.
यह एक तीसरी conditional वाक्य है जो भूतकाल की अवास्तविक स्थिति को संदर्भित करती है। सही संरचना 'If + past perfect, would/could have + past participle' है। If-clause में 'would have been' गलत है।

समाधान का रास्ता: "Last year" — भूत की अवास्तविक स्थिति = Type 3 Conditional। If-clause में "would have been" गलत → "had been" सही। Option A: "had been" + "could have expanded" = सही Type 3 structure। Option B: "were" Type 2 के लिए है (present unreal)।

क्यों यह प्रश्न: Neither-Nor Proximity Rule — "was" vs "were" का निर्णय।

Previous Year Questionपिछले वर्ष का प्रश्न
Neither the manager nor his assistants was able to solve the complex issue that arose during the meeting.
  1. Neither the manager nor his assistants were able to solve the complex issue that arose during the meeting.
  2. Neither the manager nor his assistant was able to solve the complex issue that arose during the meeting.
  3. Either the manager nor his assistants was able to solve the complex issue that arose during the meeting.
  4. Neither the manager or his assistants were able to solve the complex issue that arose during the meeting.
Solutionसमाधान
With 'neither...nor' constructions, the verb agrees with the subject closest to it. Since 'assistants' (plural) is closer to the verb than 'manager' (singular), the verb should be 'were' not 'was'. The rule is that the verb matches the number of the nearest subject.
'Neither...nor' संरचना में, क्रिया उसके निकटतम कर्ता के साथ सहमत होती है। चूंकि 'assistants' (बहुवचन) क्रिया के 'manager' (एकवचन) से अधिक निकट है, इसलिए क्रिया 'were' होनी चाहिए 'was' नहीं। नियम यह है कि क्रिया निकटतम कर्ता की संख्या से मेल खाती है।

समाधान का रास्ता: "Neither the manager nor his assistants" — verb के पास "assistants" (plural) है → Proximity Rule → "were" सही। Option A: "were" के साथ सही। Option C: "Either...nor" गलत combination है। Option D: "Neither...or" भी गलत है — "neither...nor" और "either...or" ही सही pairs हैं।

क्यों यह प्रश्न: Intervening participial phrase का trap — "implemented by the government" देखकर verb confuse हो जाती है।

Previous Year Questionपिछले वर्ष का प्रश्न
The new policies implemented by the government is expected to bring significant changes in the agricultural sector.
  1. The new policy implemented by the government is expected to bring significant changes in the agricultural sector.
  2. The new policies implementing by the government is expected to bring significant changes in the agricultural sector.
  3. The new policies implemented by the government are expected to bring significant changes in the agricultural sector.
  4. The new policies implemented by the government was expected to bring significant changes in the agricultural sector.
Solutionसमाधान
The subject 'policies' is plural, so the verb must be 'are' not 'is'. The phrase 'implemented by the government' is a past participle phrase modifying 'policies' and doesn't affect the subject-verb agreement. The main subject remains 'policies' which requires a plural verb.
कर्ता 'policies' बहुवचन है, इसलिए क्रिया 'are' होनी चाहिए 'is' नहीं। वाक्यांश 'implemented by the government' एक भूतकालिक कृदंत वाक्यांश है जो 'policies' को संशोधित करता है और कर्ता-क्रिया समझौते को प्रभावित नहीं करता। मुख्य कर्ता 'policies' है जिसके लिए बहुवचन क्रिया की आवश्यकता है।

समाधान का रास्ता: Subject है "policies" (plural) → "is" गलत → "are" चाहिए। Option C: "policies...are expected" = सही। Option A: "policy" (singular) बदल देता है जो ज़रूरी नहीं। Option B: "implementing" गलत participle form है।

क्यों यह प्रश्न: "Since" vs "For" — duration expression के साथ गलत preposition।

Previous Year Questionपिछले वर्ष का प्रश्न
The company's profits have been declining since the past five years due to increased competition.
  1. The company's profits have been declining since the last five years due to increased competition.
  2. The company's profits have been declining for the past five years due to increased competition.
  3. The company's profits had been declining since the past five years due to increased competition.
  4. The company's profits has been declining since the past five years due to increased competition.
Solutionसमाधान
When expressing duration with present perfect continuous tense, we use 'for' with periods of time, not 'since'. 'Since' is used with specific points in time. 'For the past five years' is correct because it indicates the duration of the declining profits.
जब वर्तमान पूर्ण निरंतर काल के साथ अवधि व्यक्त करते हैं, तो हम समय की अवधि के साथ 'for' का उपयोग करते हैं, 'since' का नहीं। 'Since' का उपयोग समय के विशिष्ट बिंदुओं के साथ किया जाता है। 'For the past five years' सही है क्योंकि यह गिरते मुनाफे की अवधि को दर्शाता है।

समाधान का रास्ता: "Five years" = duration → "for" चाहिए, "since" नहीं। Option B: "for the past five years" = सही। Option A: "since the last five years" भी गलत है क्योंकि "five years" duration है। Option D: "has" गलत है (subject "profits" plural है)।
