उदाहरण के तौर पर: "The government ______ a new policy." यहाँ "announced" सही है, "told" नहीं — क्योंकि "tell a policy" collocation ही नहीं है।
SBI PO में दो प्रकार के Fill in the Blanks आते हैं:
एक ज़रूरी बात: Fill in the Blanks को कभी vocabulary quiz मत समझो। अगर तुम सोचते हो "इस option का मतलब नहीं पता, इसलिए छोड़ देते हैं" — तो तुम गलत रास्ते पर हो। सही तरीका है: context से eliminate करो, collocation से confirm करो।
हर Fill in the Blank वाक्य में एक tone होती है — positive, negative, neutral, formal, informal। पहला काम है यह पहचानना।
यह एक-दो सेकंड का काम है पर 40% गलतियाँ यहीं होती हैं जब छात्र बिना tone पढ़े सीधे options देखने लगते हैं।
Collocation यानी वे शब्द-जोड़े जो English में "naturally" साथ आते हैं। इन्हें कोई grammatical rule explain नहीं करता — यह usage से बना convention है।
कुछ ज़रूरी collocations:
| Verb | Noun | |------|------| | grant | permission, legal aid, request | | deliver | speech, verdict, results | | make | decision, mistake, progress | | take | responsibility, action, decision | | reach | conclusion, agreement, destination | | pay | attention, fine, tribute | | draw | conclusion, attention, inspiration |
जब वाक्य में "legal aid" आए और options में "allowed", "offered", "granted", "awarded" हों — तो collocation से "granted" immediately lock हो जाता है। यही SBI PO PYQ 2015 का pattern था।
कई fill in the blank प्रश्नों में सही शब्द वह है जो वाक्य में मौजूद preposition के साथ grammatically सही बैठे।
जब वाक्य में "the students on the harmful effects" हो, तो "educate on" एकमात्र सही combination है। "teach on" या "learn on" नहीं चलता।
यह pattern SBI PO में बार-बार आता है — options में सारे शब्द synonyms जैसे लगते हैं, पर preposition से एक ही सही निकलता है।
Common preposition-verb pairs जो परीक्षा में आते हैं:
दोहरे रिक्त स्थान में तुम्हें दोनों blanks के लिए एक साथ सही pair ढूँढनी है। तरीका यह है:
Step 1: पहले blank के लिए context पढ़ो। जो options clearly गलत हों, उनकी pair eliminate करो।
Step 2: बचे हुए options में दूसरे blank को check करो।
Step 3: जो pair दोनों blanks में fit हो, वह answer।
उदाहरण: "The weather was ______ and the roads were ______."
"an important" गलत है क्योंकि "important" consonant 'i' से नहीं, vowel 'i' से शुरू होता है — रुको, 'i' vowel है। तो check करो: "an indispensable" vs "a necessary" — अगर blank के पहले "an" है तो vowel-start word चुनो। यह एक step में 1-2 options eliminate करता है।
Standard method: सभी options का अर्थ सोचो (30 seconds) → Shortcut: article देखकर immediately 1-2 options cut करो, फिर remaining में से context से चुनो (10 seconds)। Net saving: 20 seconds per question।
वाक्य में blank के तुरंत बाद या कुछ शब्द बाद एक preposition ढूँढो। फिर options में से वही word चुनो जो उस preposition के साथ collocation बनाता हो।
उदाहरण: "asked the players to ______ with his ideology" → "align with" ✓, "conform with" ✗ (conform to होता है), "agree with" — context से eliminate।
यह method उन questions में काम करती है जहाँ सारे options synonyms लगते हैं। Preposition एक ही सही answer lock कर देता है। Standard method: सभी options का meaning याद करो → Shortcut: preposition से directly सही collocation identify करो। Step count: 4 steps से 1 step।
वाक्य पढ़ते ही 2 seconds में decide करो: यह वाक्य positive context में है या negative? फिर options में से opposite tone वाले तुरंत eliminate करो।
"The seminar helped ______ the students on the harmful effects" → "helped" positive direction दे रहा है → "confuse", "mislead" जैसे options immediately out।
यह एक systematic elimination है जो 2 options को 2 seconds में हटा देता है। बाकी 2 में से collocation या preposition से final answer चुनो। Total time: 15 seconds vs 40 seconds (बिना इस method के)।
जब वाक्य में legal, governmental, academic, या corporate setting हो — options में सबसे formal या technical शब्द को priority दो।
"Rajeev was ______ legal aid" → "given" (casual) vs "granted" (legal-formal) vs "offered" (informal) → "granted" lock।
यह banking और governance context के SBI PO questions में बहुत काम आता है। Formal context + formal word = quick confirmation। Standard method: सभी options के nuances याद करो → Shortcut: context की formality level से directly match करो। Time saving: 25 seconds।
Double blank questions में options को pairs के रूप में देखो। एक pair internally consistent होनी चाहिए — दोनों words एक ही direction में जाने चाहिए।
"The economy was ______ and businesses were ______" → (struggling / thriving) internally inconsistent → eliminate। (struggling / closing) या (booming / expanding) internally consistent → context से final choice।
यह एक step में 2 options eliminate करता है। Standard method: दोनों blanks को separately fill करो → Shortcut: pair की internal consistency check करो पहले। Steps: 6 से 3।
परीक्षा hall में Fill in the Blanks देखते ही यह sequence follow करो:
Step 1 (2 seconds): वाक्य का tone scan — positive है या negative?
Step 2 (3 seconds): Blank के पहले article (a/an) है? है तो vowel/consonant filter लगाओ।
Step 3 (3 seconds): Blank के बाद या आसपास कोई preposition है? है तो collocation filter लगाओ।
Step 4 (5 seconds): बचे हुए options में formal/informal register से match करो।
Step 5 (5 seconds): जो एक option बचा, confirm करो — पूरा वाक्य उसके साथ natural English में पढ़ो।
Double Blank के लिए: Step 1-3 same, फिर pairs की internal consistency check करो, फिर context से final pair confirm करो।
अगर अटक जाओ: 15 seconds से ज़्यादा किसी एक question पर मत रुको। Tone और register से best guess लगाओ और आगे बढ़ो। SBI PO में speed उतनी ही ज़रूरी है जितनी accuracy।
क्यों यह प्रश्न: यह प्रश्न "a/an article + vowel-start word" और "formal context में formal word" दोनों patterns एक साथ demonstrate करता है।
समाधान का रास्ता: "an ______ part" → blank vowel से शुरू होना चाहिए → options में vowel से शुरू होने वाला formal adjective ढूँढो → "indispensable" = absolutely essential, cannot be done without → "success के लिए intelligence absolutely necessary है" → यह context से perfectly match करता है।
क्यों यह प्रश्न: यह प्रश्न preposition lock pattern का classic उदाहरण है — "with" के साथ कौन सा verb collocation बनाता है।
समाधान का रास्ता: "______ with his ideology" → blank के बाद "with" है → "align with" standard collocation है। "conform with" गलत है (conform to होता है)। "agree with" possible लगता है पर "agree or leave" उतना professional नहीं — coach का context professional/authoritative है, इसलिए "align" more appropriate। Final: align।
क्यों यह प्रश्न: यह preposition dependency और synonyms में से सही word चुनने का pattern दिखाता है।
समाधान का रास्ता: "______ the students on the harmful effects" → blank के बाद "on" है → "educate on" valid collocation है। "teach on" नहीं चलता (teach about/teach something)। "learn on" नहीं चलता (learn is intransitive यहाँ)। "inform on" = किसी के बारे में report करना (wrong meaning)। एकमात्र: educate।
क्यों यह प्रश्न: यह formal register filter का सबसे clear उदाहरण है — legal context में "granted" क्यों, "given" क्यों नहीं।
समाधान का रास्ता: "Rajeev was ______ legal aid" → legal context → formal register → "legal aid" का standard collocation "granted" है। Court या authority formally "grant" करती है। "Given" casual है। "Offered" informal है। "Awarded" — award money/prize होती है, legal aid नहीं। Final: granted।
Synonym trap में फँसना: जब दो options के meanings similar लगें तो छात्र randomly एक choose कर लेते हैं। गलती यह है कि collocation check नहीं करते। "educate on" और "inform on" के meanings similar लगते हैं, पर "inform on" का actual meaning है "किसी के खिलाफ report करना" — यह false friend है।
Article a/an को ignore करना: "an" देखने के बाद भी consonant-start word choose कर लेना।
Formal context में casual word choose करना: Banking और legal contexts में "given" को "granted" पर prefer करना। SBI PO में formal registers की समझ directly marks affect करती है।
Negative marker को miss करना: "not", "never", "hardly", "scarcely" जैसे words वाक्य का direction बदल देते हैं। "The seminar was not able to ______ students" और "The seminar helped ______ students" में blank के लिए words opposite होंगे। Negation miss करना सबसे महँगी गलती है।
