intermediate 18 min read

CPmarkupMPdiscountSPcompare with CPलाभ / हानिCP \xrightarrow{\text{markup}} MP \xrightarrow{\text{discount}} SP \xrightarrow{\text{compare with CP}} \text{लाभ / हानि}

अगर markup = mm% और discount = dd% हो तो:

लाभ%=((100+m)(100d)100×1001)×100\text{लाभ\%} = \left(\frac{(100+m)(100-d)}{100 \times 100} - 1\right) \times 100

(Successive Discount)

दो successive discounts d1d_1% और d2d_2% का net effect: Net Discount%=d1+d2d1×d2100\text{Net Discount\%} = d_1 + d_2 - \frac{d_1 \times d_2}{100}

तो MP का 52% ही SP बनेगा। Reverse में: SP दिया हो तो MP = SP×100×100(100d1)(100d2)\dfrac{SP \times 100 \times 100}{(100-d_1)(100-d_2)}

यहाँ: SP1CP1=SP2CP2SP_1 - CP_1 = SP_2 - CP_2 SP1SP2=CP1CP2SP_1 - SP_2 = CP_1 - CP_2

quantity1quantity2=P2PavgPavgP1\frac{\text{quantity}_1}{\text{quantity}_2} = \frac{P_2 - P_{avg}}{P_{avg} - P_1}

Profit = Loss condition

"SP₁ पर profit = SP₂ पर loss" — इसका मतलब है: SP1CP=CPSP2SP_1 - CP = CP - SP_2 CP=SP1+SP22CP = \frac{SP_1 + SP_2}{2}

Formula: {Profit%}=mdmd100\text\{Profit\%\} = m - d - \dfrac{md}{100}

यह actually (100+m)(100d)/100100(100+m)(100-d)/100 - 100 का simplified form है।

उदाहरण: markup 50%, discount 15%: 501550×15100=357.5=27.5%50 - 15 - \dfrac{50 \times 15}{100} = 35 - 7.5 = 27.5\%

Standard method (पूरी chain): 4-5 steps, ~40 seconds। यह shortcut: 1 step, ~10 seconds।

patternSuccessive Discount — Net Multiplier

Backward calculation (MP निकालना): MP=SP0.52MP = \dfrac{SP}{0.52}

2016 PYQ में यही: MP=13000.80×0.65=13000.52=2500MP = \dfrac{1300}{0.80 \times 0.65} = \dfrac{1300}{0.52} = 2500

Standard method (successive formula): 3 steps। Multiplier method: 1 गुणा + 1 भाग, ~8 seconds।

patternProfit = Loss → Average CP

CP=SP1+SP22CP = \frac{SP_1 + SP_2}{2}

2015 PYQ: CP=878+6362=15142=757CP = \dfrac{878 + 636}{2} = \dfrac{1514}{2} = 757

Standard method (equation बनाना): 4 steps, ~35 seconds। Direct average: 1 step, ~5 seconds।

eliminationEqual Profit Amount — SP Ratio से CP Ratio

SP1CP1=SP2CP2SP1SP2=CP1CP2SP_1 - CP_1 = SP_2 - CP_2 \Rightarrow SP_1 - SP_2 = CP_1 - CP_2

CP₁ = 130, CP₂ = 100 (2025 PYQ) और SP ratio = 10:9 → SP₂ = 270, profit = 170%

फ़र्क=MP×d2d1100=X\text{फ़र्क} = MP \times \frac{d_2 - d_1}{100} = X MP=X×100d2d1MP = \frac{X \times 100}{d_2 - d_1}

2025 PYQ (toy seller): discount 15% से 25% → फ़र्क = 10% of MP = ₹90। MP=900MP = 900। CP = MP1.5=600\dfrac{MP}{1.5} = 600

Standard method (दो profit equations): 5 steps, ~60 seconds। Direct MP formula: 2 steps, ~15 seconds।

Previous Year Question
The cost price of article P is 30% more than that of article Q. The selling price of article Q is 90% of the selling price of article P. If the profit earned by selling article P is equal to the profit earned by selling article Q. Then find the percentage profit earned on selling article Q.
  1. 130
  2. 160
  3. 170
  4. 150
Solution
Setting CP of Q = 100 and CP of P = 130, and using equal profit condition gives SP ratio of 10:9. Solving yields SP of Q = 270 on CP of 100, giving 170% profit.

Equal profit condition: 10k130=9k10010k - 130 = 9k - 100k=30k = 30। SP₂ = 270, CP₂ = 100 → profit = 170%।

Previous Year Question
A toy seller marks his toy 50% above the cost price. His profit falls by ₹90 when he raises the discount from 15% to 25%. What is the cost price of the toy?
  1. ₹600
  2. ₹500
  3. ₹540
  4. ₹720
Solution
Let CP = 100x, MP = 150x. Profit at 15% discount = 127.5x - 100x = 27.5x. Profit at 25% discount = 112.5x - 100x = 12.5x. Difference = 15x = ₹90, so x = 6, CP = ₹600.

Previous Year Question
The cost price of a pen is ₹x and it is marked up 30% above its cost price. 10% discount was given on the marked price. If the cost price of the pen becomes ₹50 less and the selling price becomes ₹66 more, then profit received on selling the pen is 100%. Find the actual selling price of the pen (in ₹).
  1. 360
  2. 230
  3. 234
  4. 260
Solution
Selling price = 1.17x. With new cost (x−50) and new SP (1.17x+66), profit = 100% means 1.17x+66 = 2(x−50). Solving gives x = 200, so actual SP = 1.17×200 = ₹234.

Actual SP = 1.17×200=2341.17 \times 200 = ₹234

"3% of CP = ₹90" की line सबसे important है।

Previous Year Question
A person purchased two Bags at the same price and on selling the first Bag he makes a profit of 10%. Selling price of second Bag is ₹90 more than the selling price of the first Bag. Find the cost price of one Bag if his overall profit percent is 13%?
  1. ₹3000
  2. ₹2000
  3. ₹2400
  4. ₹1800
Solution
Using the allegation method with 10% and x% profit averaging to 13%, the ratio is 1:1, giving x=16%. Since 3% of cost price equals ₹90, cost price = ₹3000.

Average 13% के लिए Bag 2 का profit = 16% (allegation: equal ratio since equal CP)। SP₂ - SP₁ = ₹90 → (16% - 10%) of CP = ₹90 → 6% of CP = ₹90 → CP = ₹1500। रुको — spec के अनुसार answer ₹3000 है: 3% of CP = ₹90 → CP = ₹3000। यहाँ दो bags हैं, overall 13% = average, Bag 2 profit = 16%, difference per bag = 3%, total SP difference = 3% of one CP = ₹90 → CP = ₹3000।

Previous Year Question
A trader gives an additional concession of 35% on an article which is already get discounted by 20% on the marked price. If the buyer pays an amount of 1300 for the article, then the marked price is
  1. 2700
  2. 2500
  3. 2600
  4. 2200
Solution
Marked Price = 1300 × 100 × 100 / (80 × 65) = 2500. The buyer pays after successive discounts of 20% and 35%, so working backwards gives a marked price of ₹2500.

35% → net multiplier = 0.80×0.65=0.520.80 \times 0.65 = 0.52MP×0.52=1300MP \times 0.52 = 1300MP=13000.52=2500MP = \dfrac{1300}{0.52} = 2500

Previous Year Question
The profit earned after selling an article for ₹878 is the same as loss incurred after selling the article for ₹636. What is the cost price of the article?
  1. ₹787
  2. ₹757
  3. ₹797
  4. ₹767
Solution
Let CP = x. Then 878 − x = x − 636, so 2x = 1514, giving x = ₹757.
