SSC CGL के लिए प्रत्यक्ष और अप्रत्यक्ष कथन — नैरेशन के सम्पूर्ण नियम

intermediate 18 min read

अवधारणा

किसी के कहे हुए शब्दों को दो तरीकों से दोहराया जा सकता है।

पहला तरीका — उसके मूल शब्दों को जस-का-तस inverted commas में रखो। यही Direct Speech (प्रत्यक्ष कथन) है। जैसे: He said, "I am going to school."

दूसरा तरीका — उसका मतलब अपने शब्दों में, बिना inverted commas के, बताओ। यही Indirect Speech (अप्रत्यक्ष कथन) है। जैसे: He said that he was going to school.

(Backshift of Tenses)

जब Reporting Verb past tense में हो (said, told, asked), तो Reported Speech का Tense एक step पीछे खिसकता है।

| Direct Speech (Reported Clause में) | Indirect Speech में | |--------------------------------------|----------------------| | Simple Present → | Simple Past | | Present Continuous → | Past Continuous | | Present Perfect → | Past Perfect | | Simple Past → | Past Perfect | | Past Continuous → | Past Perfect Continuous | | will → | would | | can → | could | | may → | might | | shall → | should |

ध्यान रखो: Modal verbs would, could, might, should, ought to पहले से ही past में हैं — ये नहीं बदलते।

अपवाद: अगर Reporting Verb Present या Future में हो (says, will say), तो Tense नहीं बदलता। जैसे: He says that he is tired. He says that he is tired. (कोई बदलाव नहीं।)

Universal truth में भी Tense नहीं बदलता। जैसे: The teacher said, "The sun rises in the east."The teacher said that the sun rises in the east.

नियम 2 — सर्वनाम (Pronoun) का बदलाव

यह SSC CGL में सबसे ज़्यादा गलतियाँ कराने वाला हिस्सा है। तीन व्यक्ति (Person) के आधार पर नियम याद करो।

First Person (I, we, my, our, me, us): ये Subject of Reporting Verb के अनुसार बदलते हैं।

उदाहरण: She said, "I am tired." → Subject "She" है, इसलिए "I" बदलकर "she" हो जाता है।

Second Person (you, your, yours): ये Object of Reporting Verb के अनुसार बदलते हैं।

उदाहरण: He said to me, "You are right." → Object "me" है, इसलिए "you" बदलकर "I" हो जाता है।

Third Person (he, she, they, his, her, their): ये नहीं बदलते।

नियम 3 — समय और स्थान के शब्दों का बदलाव

| Direct Speech में | Indirect Speech में | |-------------------|----------------------| | now | then | | today | that day | | yesterday | the previous day / the day before | | tomorrow | the next day / the following day | | this | that | | these | those | | here | there | | last night | the previous night | | ago | before |

नियम 4 — विभिन्न प्रकार के वाक्यों के लिए Reporting Verb

Assertive (साधारण कथन): said that का प्रयोग। कभी told that नहीं। Told के बाद object ज़रूरी है: told him that, न कि told that

Interrogative (प्रश्नवाचक):

गलत: He asked where was she going. सही: He asked where she was going.

Imperative (आदेश/अनुरोध/सलाह):

Exclamatory (विस्मयादिबोधक):

नियम 5 — Said बनाम Told

यह SSC CGL में direct trap है।

शॉर्टकट और युक्तियाँ

pattern3P Formula — Pronoun बदलाव का अचूक तरीका

Direct Speech में तीन Person होते हैं। याद रखो: 1st → Subject, 2nd → Object, 3rd → No change।

Micro-example: He said to her, "I love you."

  • "I" (1st person) → Reporting Subject = "he" → बदलकर "he"
  • "you" (2nd person) → Reporting Object = "her" → बदलकर "her"
  • Result: He told her that he loved her.

Standard method: हर pronoun अलग-अलग सोचो — 30 सेकंड। इस formula से: 8 सेकंड।

patternTense Ladder — एक सीढ़ी नीचे उतरो

Tense को एक सीढ़ी की तरह देखो। Reporting Verb past में हो तो reported clause एक पायदान नीचे:

  • Present Simple → Past Simple
  • Present Continuous → Past Continuous
  • Present Perfect → Past Perfect
  • Past Simple → Past Perfect (यह trap है — Past Simple भी बदलता है)

Trap: She said, "He came yesterday."She said that he had come the previous day. (came → had come, yesterday → the previous day)

Standard method: हर tense की अलग-अलग table देखो — 40 सेकंड। Ladder visualize करो — 10 सेकंड।

eliminationYES/NO → if/whether, WH- → वही word

Indirect Interrogative में option eliminate करना बेहद आसान है:

  • अगर Direct Speech में "Will you...?", "Are you...?", "Did he...?" जैसा Yes/No प्रश्न है → Indirect में if या whether आएगा।
  • अगर "Where", "What", "Why", "How" से शुरू है → वही word Indirect में भी आएगा।

asked that हमेशा गलत है — यह option तुरंत काटो। will को Interrogative Indirect में would बनाओ।

4-option question में 2 options इसी rule से तुरंत कटते हैं — 15 सेकंड की बचत प्रति प्रश्न।

substitutionReporting Verb Decoder — वाक्य का मतलब देखो

Inverted commas के अंदर देखो:

  • "Please..." या polite request → requested
  • "You must..." या strong command → ordered/commanded
  • "You should..." या सुझाव → advised
  • "!" विस्मय → exclaimed with joy/sorrow/wonder
  • साधारण statement → said that

SSC CGL में options में reporting verb अक्सर अलग-अलग होती है। गलत reporting verb वाले 1-2 options तुरंत कट जाते हैं। यह step पहले करो — standard approach (पूरा sentence पढ़ना) से 20 सेकंड पहले।

eliminationSaid vs Told Instant Filter

Options में told that दिखे — तुरंत काटो। Told के बाद object (him, me, them...) ज़रूरी है।

इसी तरह, said to him that और told him that — दोनों सही हो सकते हैं, लेकिन said that (बिना object के) और told that (object के बिना) में से:

  • said that = सही
  • told that = हमेशा गलत

यह एक step में 1 option eliminate करता है — 5 सेकंड।

तेज़-समाधान रूपरेखा

SSC CGL में नैरेशन का प्रश्न मिले तो यह क्रम अपनाओ:

Step 1 — वाक्य का प्रकार पहचानो (3 सेकंड) Inverted commas में देखो: Statement है, Question है, Command है, या Exclamation?

Step 2 — Reporting Verb की जाँच करो (5 सेकंड) Said that vs Told that trap? Asked if vs Asked that trap? गलत reporting verb वाले options काटो।

Step 3 — Pronoun जाँचो (5 सेकंड) 3P Formula: 1st → Subject, 2nd → Object, 3rd → No change। Pronoun गलत हो तो option काटो।

Step 4 — Tense जाँचो (5 सेकंड) Tense Ladder: एक पायदान नीचे गया या नहीं? will → would, has → had, is → was

Step 5 — Time/Place शब्द (3 सेकंड) tomorrow → the next day, today → that day, now → then। इनमें से कोई गलत हो तो option काटो।

इस framework से 5-option question में 2-3 options पहले 2 steps में ही कट जाते हैं। बचे हुए options में Tense और Pronoun से निर्णय होता है।

हल किए गए PYQs

क्यों यह प्रश्न: यह साधारण Assertive sentence का सबसे basic conversion है — Tense backshift और Pronoun change दोनों एक साथ test होते हैं।

Previous Year Questionपिछले वर्ष का प्रश्न
He said, 'I am going to school.' — Change into Indirect Speech.
  1. He said that he is going to school.
  2. He told that he was going to school.
  3. He said that I was going to school.
  4. He said that he was going to school.
Solutionसमाधान
In indirect speech, 'said' without an object is retained as 'said that'. The pronoun 'I' changes to 'he', and the present continuous 'am going' shifts to past continuous 'was going' following the rule of backshift of tenses.
Indirect Speech में, जब reporting verb 'said' हो और कोई object न हो, तो 'said that' का प्रयोग होता है। 'I' बदलकर 'he' हो जाता है और 'am going' (Present Continuous) बदलकर 'was going' (Past Continuous) हो जाता है।

समाधान का रास्ता: Said के बाद object नहीं है → said that (option B में told that — तुरंत काटो)। I → Reporting Subject Hehe बन जाता है (option C में I रहा — काटो)। Am going → Past Continuous → was going (option A में is going — काटो)। बचा option D।

क्यों यह प्रश्न: Request वाले Imperative sentence में Reporting Verb का सही चुनाव test होता है — requested, told, said में से कौन सा?

Previous Year Questionपिछले वर्ष का प्रश्न
She said to me, 'Please help me.' — Which of the following is the correct Indirect Speech?
  1. She said to me that please help her.
  2. She told me to please help her.
  3. She requested me that help her.
  4. She requested me to help her.
Solutionसमाधान
Imperative sentences with 'please' in direct speech are converted using 'requested' in indirect speech. The structure becomes 'requested + object + to + infinitive', and 'me' in reported speech changes to 'her'.
जब Direct Speech में 'please' के साथ request हो, तो Indirect Speech में 'requested' का प्रयोग होता है। वाक्य की संरचना 'requested + object + to + infinitive' होती है, और 'me' बदलकर 'her' हो जाता है।

समाधान का रास्ता: Please शब्द → Request → Reporting Verb = requested। Option A और C में structure गलत है (said to me that please — inverted commas की भाषा Indirect में नहीं चलती)। Option B में told me to pleaseplease Indirect में नहीं आता। सही structure: requested + object + to + infinitive → option D।

क्यों यह प्रश्न: will → would और tomorrow → the next day — दोनों एक साथ trap। SSC CGL में यह combination बार-बार आता है।

Previous Year Questionपिछले वर्ष का प्रश्न
Ram said, 'I will come tomorrow.' — The correct Indirect Speech is:
  1. Ram said that he will come tomorrow.
  2. Ram told that he would come the next day.
  3. Ram said that he would come tomorrow.
  4. Ram said that he would come the next day.
Solutionसमाधान
'Will' changes to 'would' in indirect speech due to tense backshift. 'Tomorrow' changes to 'the next day' as the time reference shifts. 'I' changes to 'he' to match the subject. 'Said' without an object remains 'said that', not 'told that'.
Indirect Speech में 'will' बदलकर 'would' हो जाता है। 'Tomorrow' बदलकर 'the next day' हो जाता है क्योंकि समय संदर्भ बदल जाता है। 'I' बदलकर 'he' हो जाता है। 'Said' के बाद object न हो तो 'told' नहीं लिखते।

समाधान का रास्ता: Said (past) → Tense backshift → will → would (option A में will रहा — काटो)। Option B में told that — object नहीं है, काटो। Option C में tomorrow रहा — यह गलत है क्योंकि समय संदर्भ बदल चुका है (tomorrow → the next day)। बचा option D।

क्यों यह प्रश्न: Today → that day का बदलाव और I → she का Pronoun बदलाव एक साथ।

Previous Year Questionपिछले वर्ष का प्रश्न
Select the correct indirect speech for: She said, "I am very tired today."
  1. She said that I was very tired that day.
  2. She told that she was very tired today.
  3. She said that she is very tired today.
  4. She said that she was very tired that day.
Solutionसमाधान
In indirect speech, 'said' is followed by 'that', the pronoun 'I' changes to 'she', 'am' changes to 'was', and 'today' changes to 'that day'.
अप्रत्यक्ष कथन में 'said' के बाद 'that' आता है, 'I' बदलकर 'she' होता है, 'am' बदलकर 'was' होता है, और 'today' बदलकर 'that day' होता है।

समाधान का रास्ता: Option A में I रहा — काटो। Option B में told that और today — दोनों गलत। Option C में is (Present) — Tense backshift नहीं हुआ, काटो। Option D: she (सही), was (सही), that day (सही) — यही उत्तर है।

क्यों यह प्रश्न: यह Indirect → Direct conversion है — उल्टी दिशा। SSC CGL में यह variant भी आता है। Had finished → have finished का reverse backshift।

Previous Year Questionपिछले वर्ष का प्रश्न
Select the correct direct speech for: He told me that he had finished his work.
  1. He said to me, "I had finished my work."
  2. He said to me, "I have finished my work."
  3. He said to me, "He has finished his work."
  4. He told me, "I have finished your work."
Solutionसमाधान
When converting from indirect to direct speech, 'had finished' reverts to 'have finished' (present perfect), 'he' changes to 'I', and 'his' changes to 'my'.
अप्रत्यक्ष से प्रत्यक्ष कथन में 'had finished' वापस 'have finished' (present perfect) हो जाता है, 'he' बदलकर 'I' और 'his' बदलकर 'my' होता है।

समाधान का रास्ता: Indirect में had finished है → Direct में Past Perfect → Present Perfect → have finishedheI, hismy। Option A में had finished रहा — यह Direct Speech होती तो Past Perfect क्यों? काटो। Option C में he रहा — Direct Speech में वक्ता खुद बोल रहा होता, इसलिए I। Option D में your — गलत। बचा option B।

क्यों यह प्रश्न: Yes/No Interrogative में asked if/whether का नियम और will → would का बदलाव।

Previous Year Questionपिछले वर्ष का प्रश्न
Choose the correct indirect speech: Ram said, "Will you help me?"
  1. Ram asked if I would help him.
  2. Ram asked if I will help him.
  3. Ram asked that will I help him.
  4. Ram said that would I help him.
Solutionसमाधान
Interrogative sentences in indirect speech use 'asked if/whether'. 'Will' changes to 'would', and pronouns shift accordingly. 'That' is not used with interrogatives.
प्रश्नवाचक वाक्यों के अप्रत्यक्ष कथन में 'asked if/whether' का प्रयोग होता है। 'Will' बदलकर 'would' होता है और सर्वनाम भी बदल जाते हैं।

समाधान का रास्ता: Will you help me? — Yes/No question → asked if/whether। Option C में asked that — गलत, काटो। Option D में said that would I — word order गलत और said that interrogative में नहीं। Option B में will — backshift नहीं हुआ, काटो। Option A: asked if (सही), would (सही), Ihim (Ram ने पूछा था, me object था, इसलिए him नहीं — यहाँ I वक्ता है)।

क्यों यह प्रश्न: Compound sentence जिसमें Advice + Assertion दोनों हैं — दो अलग clauses को दो अलग Reporting Verbs से handle करना।

Previous Year Questionपिछले वर्ष का प्रश्न
Change to indirect speech: The teacher said to the students, "Work hard and you will succeed."
  1. The teacher said to the students that they should work hard and succeed.
  2. The teacher advised the students to work hard and told them that they would succeed.
  3. The teacher asked the students to work hard and said they would succeed.
  4. The teacher told the students that work hard and they will succeed.
Solutionसमाधान
Imperative sentences with advice use 'advised + to + infinitive'. The second clause is reported using 'told them that they would succeed', changing 'will' to 'would'.
सलाह देने वाले आदेशात्मक वाक्यों में 'advised + to + infinitive' का प्रयोग होता है। दूसरा उपवाक्य 'told them that they would succeed' से बताया जाता है।

समाधान का रास्ता: Work hard → advice/command → advised to work hardYou will succeed → assertion → told them that they would succeed। Option A में should work hardadvised to के बाद to + infinitive आना चाहिए। Option C में asked — request/question नहीं थी। Option D में tense नहीं बदला। Option B सही structure में दोनों clauses handle करता है।
