SSC CHSL

1. Direct Fact Questions (सीधे तथ्य)

ये सबसे आसान होते हैं। प्रश्न में कोई शब्द होगा जो passage में भी है। उस शब्द के आसपास का एक-दो वाक्य पढ़ो — उत्तर मिल जाएगा।

उदाहरण: "What was stolen?" — passage में "stolen" या "took" के पास देखो।

2. Inference Questions (निष्कर्ष)

ये थोड़े कठिन हैं। उत्तर passage में word-for-word नहीं लिखा होता। तुम्हें context से समझना होता है।

उदाहरण: "Why does the detective say he must solve the case immediately?" — passage में यह कारण सीधे नहीं दिया है, लेकिन sequence देखो: Ms. Gervis कहती है वो अब cake नहीं बनाएगी → detective घबरा जाता है → इसीलिए वो बोलता है "I must solve this immediately।"

3. Vocabulary-in-Context Questions (संदर्भ में शब्द)

ये expression या phrase का meaning पूछते हैं, जैसे "her hands are shaking।" यहाँ literal meaning नहीं देखना — context देखना है। Ms. Gervis अभी-अभी robbery का शिकार हुई है, इसलिए "shaking hands" का मतलब है भय से काँपना, न कि बुखार।

4. Fill-in-the-Blank (Cloze passage)

यह grammar + vocabulary का मेल है। तीन चीज़ें check करो:

Passage पढ़ने की सही तकनीक

Step 1 — प्रश्नों को scan करो (30 सेकंड)

सभी प्रश्न एक बार diagonal-read करो। देखो कि कौन से keywords हैं — detective, stolen, shaking, front door। इन्हें मन में note कर लो।

Step 2 — Passage को targeted पढ़ो

अब passage पढ़ते वक्त वही keywords ढूंढो। जहाँ keyword मिले, वहाँ ध्यान से 2-3 वाक्य पढ़ो।

Step 3 — Option elimination

हर प्रश्न में कम से कम 1-2 options ऐसे होते हैं जो clearly wrong हैं — उन्हें पहले हटाओ। जो बचे, उनमें से passage के अनुसार सटीक उत्तर चुनो।

Step 4 — Tone और author's intent

जब कोई option लगभग सही लगे लेकिन थोड़ा extreme लगे (always, never, completely), तो सावधान हो जाओ। SSC के passages में usually moderate statements ही सही होते हैं।

Cloze Passage की विशेष विधि

Blank-filling के लिए यह तीन-step framework काम करता है:

Grammatical filter: किस form की ज़रूरत है? Verb है तो tense देखो। Noun है तो article देखो। Preposition है तो fixed phrase याद करो।

Semantic filter: Blank के आगे-पीछे के शब्दों का logic क्या है? Purpose बताना है ("to buy"), duration बतानी है ("through the week"), या subject चाहिए ("He")?

जिस option में "always," "never," "completely," "only," "must" जैसे extreme शब्द हों — वो 80% से ज़्यादा बार गलत होता है। SSC के passages आमतौर पर balanced statements करते हैं।

उदाहरण: अगर option है "Ms. Gervis was completely unaffected" और passage में वो upset दिखती है — यह option eliminate। इससे 2 options में से 1 चुनना होता है, न कि 4 में से 1।

4 options में से 1 चुनना = 25% base accuracy। Extreme elimination के बाद = 50% base accuracy + passage support।

substitutionShaking/Expression प्रश्नों में Context देखो, Dictionary नहीं

जब कोई expression का meaning पूछा जाए जैसे "her hands are shaking" — पहले सोचो यह expression किस परिस्थिति में आया है। Character की situation क्या है? Physically ill? Scared? Excited?

2014 PYQ में "her hands are shaking" — Ms. Gervis robbery का शिकार है, इसलिए context = fear। Option में "fever" या "cold" है तो वो automatically गलत।

यह trick 3-step process को 1-step में बदल देती है: situation → emotion → correct option। Standard process (dictionary meaning + elimination) = 4 steps।

patternCloze Blank में Preposition के लिए Fixed Phrases याद रखो

SSC CHSL में preposition blanks के लिए कुछ fixed phrases बार-बार आते हैं:

  • "last ___ the week/month" → through
  • "go ___ the trouble" → through
  • "drop in ___ a shop" → at
  • "___ purpose / ___ buy" → to (infinitive of purpose)

इन्हें pattern के रूप में याद रखो। Logic यह है: "through" = एक अवधि की शुरुआत से अंत तक।

Grammar rule याद रखने में 20 सेकंड + apply करना = 30 सेकंड। Fixed phrase pattern = 5 सेकंड। Step-count: 6 steps → 2 steps।

तेज़-समाधान रूपरेखा

परीक्षा-हॉल में यह decision tree follow करो:

प्रश्न मिला → किस type का है?

↓ Direct fact (what, who, where) → passage में keyword ढूंढो → आसपास के 2 वाक्य पढ़ो → option match करो।

↓ Inference (why, how) → घटनाओं का sequence देखो → कारण-परिणाम सोचो → extreme options हटाओ → सबसे logical option चुनो।

↓ Expression/vocabulary → character की situation देखो → emotion identify करो → context-based option चुनो, literal meaning नहीं।

↓ Cloze blank → grammatical form check करो → sentence का logic देखो → fixed phrase pattern apply करो।

अगर दो options में confuse हो:

एक passage के 5-7 प्रश्नों के लिए target: 4 मिनट से कम।

हल किए गए PYQs

क्यों यह प्रश्न: यह प्रश्न सीखाता है कि "mystery" जैसे abstract शब्द के बारे में प्रश्न का उत्तर कैसे ढूंढते हैं — character के dialogue में।

Previous Year Questionपिछले वर्ष का प्रश्न2014
What does Ms. Gervis say is a big mystery?
  1. How the robber got in
  2. How the robber got out
  3. How the robber got in and out
  4. How the robber stole
Solutionसमाधान
Ms. Gervis says 'It is a big mystery' after the detective mentions he cannot understand how the robber got in and out, making option (b) the correct answer as it refers to both entry and exit.

समाधान का रास्ता: Passage में "mystery" शब्द के आसपास देखो। Detective कहता है वो नहीं समझ पा रहा कि robber कैसे अंदर आया और बाहर गया — उसके बाद Ms. Gervis कहती है "It is a big mystery।" इसलिए mystery = entry + exit दोनों।

क्यों यह प्रश्न: यह classic misdirection question है — passage में money, jewellery, crystal का ज़िक्र है, इसलिए candidates confuse होते हैं।

Previous Year Questionपिछले वर्ष का प्रश्न2014
What was stolen?
  1. Crystal
  2. Cakes
  3. Money
  4. Jewellery
Solutionसमाधान
Ms. Gervis clarifies that no money, no jewellery, and no crystal were taken. The robber only took what was most important to her — her cakes, which she baked to give away.

समाधान का रास्ता: Ms. Gervis specifically कहती है "no money, no jewellery, no crystal" — यानी ये सब eliminate हो गए। जो बचा वो था उसकी cakes। Elimination technique यहाँ passage खुद करता है।

क्यों यह प्रश्न: Inference question — detective का statement उसके अपने कारण से नहीं बल्कि Ms. Gervis की धमकी से trigger हुआ। यह sequence-based reasoning सिखाता है।

Previous Year Questionपिछले वर्ष का प्रश्न2014
Why does the detective say, "I must solve this case immediately?"
  1. Because Ms. Gervis says she won't bake cakes again
  2. Because Ms. Gervis is worried about who stole from her house
  3. Because Ms. Gervis is crying
  4. Because Ms. Gervis is scared
Solutionसमाधान
The detective reacts with alarm when Ms. Gervis says she will stop baking cakes as a result of the theft, prompting him to say he must solve the case immediately — clearly motivated by not wanting her to stop baking.

समाधान का रास्ता: Sequence देखो: Ms. Gervis → "I won't bake again" → Detective घबराया → "I must solve this immediately।" कारण है Ms. Gervis का baking बंद करने का निर्णय। यही correct answer है।

क्यों यह प्रश्न: Expression-in-context का बेहतरीन उदाहरण। "Shaking hands" को literal नहीं, contextual समझना है।

Previous Year Questionपिछले वर्ष का प्रश्न2014
What does the expression 'her hands are shaking' mean here?
  1. Ms. Gervis is shivering with fear
  2. Ms. Gervis is shivering with wonder
  3. Ms. Gervis is shivering with fever
  4. Ms. Gervis is shivering with cold
Solutionसमाधान
The context shows Ms. Gervis is upset and distressed after being robbed, so her shaking hands indicate she is trembling with fear and emotional distress, not from physical causes like fever or cold.

समाधान का रास्ता: Context: Ms. Gervis अभी robbery का शिकार हुई है, वो upset और distressed है। Emotion = fear। इसलिए "hands shaking" = fear से काँपना। Fever या cold का कोई mention नहीं है passage में।

क्यों यह प्रश्न: यह Cloze passage का preposition blank है — "to last him ___ the week।" Fixed phrase pattern सीधे काम आता है।

Previous Year Questionपिछले वर्ष का प्रश्न2020
Select the most appropriate option for blank no. 3.
  1. by
  2. across
  3. within
  4. through
Solutionसमाधान
The phrase 'to last him ___ the week' means to be sufficient for the entire duration of the week, and 'through' is the correct preposition used to indicate duration from start to finish.

समाधान का रास्ता: "Last through the week" एक fixed phrase है जिसका मतलब है — पूरे हफ्ते तक चलना/काफी होना। "Through" = duration की शुरुआत से अंत तक। "For" confusion पैदा करता है लेकिन "for the week" सही नहीं है क्योंकि यहाँ continuity और sufficiency दोनों दर्शानी है।
