  2. "NOT a meaning" — किसी homograph के गलत अर्थ को पहचानना
  3. "Correctly used homonym" — चार विकल्पों में से सही प्रयोग ढूंढना

गहन विश्लेषण

SSC CHSL के सबसे महत्वपूर्ण Homonym जोड़े

समूह 1 — Fill-in-the-Blanks में बार-बार आने वाले Homophones

Desert / Dessert / Desert

यह trio सबसे अधिक confuse करता है क्योंकि दो spellings हैं लेकिन तीन अर्थ हैं:

| शब्द | उच्चारण | अर्थ | उदाहरण | |------|---------|------|--------| | desert (noun) | DEZ-ert | रेगिस्तान, बंजर भूमि | the Sahara desert | | desert (verb) | di-ZERT | छोड़ना, त्याग करना | He deserted his post. | | dessert (noun) | di-ZERT | मिठाई, भोजन के बाद की मीठी चीज़ | chocolate dessert |

ध्यान दो — desert (verb) और dessert का उच्चारण एक जैसा है, लेकिन spelling में dessert में double 's' है।

Born / Borne

| शब्द | अर्थ | प्रयोग | |------|------|--------| | born | जन्म लिया हुआ | She was born in Delhi. / New ideas are born. | | borne | वहन किया, सहा | The burden was borne silently. / Challenges are borne. |

नियम: born हमेशा जन्म या उत्पत्ति के लिए। borne — "carry/bear" का past participle, यानी सहने या ढोने के लिए।

Principle / Principal

| शब्द | अर्थ | |------|------| | principle | सिद्धांत, नियम, मूल्य (हमेशा noun) | | principal | प्रधानाचार्य (noun) / मुख्य (adjective) / मूलधन (noun) |

याद रखो: principAL — AL = A person (एक व्यक्ति)। principlE — E = Ethics (एक नैतिक नियम)।

Defuse / Diffuse

| शब्द | अर्थ | संदर्भ | |------|------|--------| | defuse | तनाव कम करना, बम का फ्यूज़ हटाना | defuse a bomb / defuse tension | | diffuse | फैलाना, बिखेरना; बिखरा हुआ (adjective) | Light diffuses through fog. / diffuse writing style |

Signet / Cygnet

| शब्द | अर्थ | |------|------| | signet | मुहर वाली अंगूठी (signet ring) | | cygnet | हंस का बच्चा (young swan) |

यह जोड़ा rare है लेकिन SSC CHSL 2025 में आ चुका है — इसे याद रखो।

समूह 2 — Homographs ("NOT a meaning" वाले प्रश्नों के लिए)

Advance के सही अर्थ:

जो अर्थ advance का नहीं है: "Special benefits" — यह perks या privileges का अर्थ है।

Resolution के सही अर्थ:

जो अर्थ नहीं है: "A written agreement between two companies in a merger" — यह merger agreement या MoU होता है, resolution नहीं।

Context Clues

patternprincipAL = A person, principlE = Ethics

principal के अंत में AL है — सोचो "A Leader" या "A Person"। principle के अंत में E है — सोचो "Ethics" या "Ethic rule"। जब भी किसी व्यक्ति (school head, main person) या मूलधन की बात हो → principAL। जब किसी नियम या मूल्य की बात हो → principlE। यह trick pair-fill प्रश्नों में 5 seconds बचाती है बनाम हर बार अर्थ सोचने के।

patternBORNE = BuRdEN — सहना

borne और burden दोनों में B-R-N अक्षर हैं और दोनों का अर्थ ढोने या सहने से जुड़ा है। जब वाक्य में "carry, endure, suffer, tolerate" का भाव हो → borne। जब जन्म या उत्पत्ति का भाव हो → born। यह pattern born/borne के 90% प्रश्नों को 4 seconds में हल कर देता है।

patterndeFUSE = फ्यूज़ हटाना, diFFUSE = फैलाना

defuse में fuse छुपा है — जैसे bomb का fuse हटाते हैं, वैसे ही tension को defuse करते हैं। diffuse में di prefix है जो "apart/spread" का अर्थ देता है (जैसे distribute, diverge)। जब भी "कम करना / neutralize" का context हो → defuse। जब "फैलाना / spread" का context हो → diffuse। 3 steps से 1 step।

eliminationNOT-a-meaning प्रश्नों के लिए Elimination Strategy

जब पूछा जाए "which is NOT a meaning of word X" — पहले उन options को eliminate करो जो clearly सही हैं (तुम जानते हो)।

क्या "NOT a meaning" पूछा है?

क्या "correctly used" पूछा है?

याद रखो: Homonym प्रश्नों में grammar नहीं, अर्थ और context देखना है। दोनों शब्द grammatically fit हो सकते हैं, लेकिन अर्थ में से केवल एक सही होगा।

हल किए गए PYQs

क्यों यह प्रश्न: desert एक ऐसा शब्द है जो noun और verb दोनों रूपों में अलग-अलग अर्थ देता है। SSC CHSL इसी ambiguity को test करता है।

समाधान का रास्ता: पहले blank में "planned to ______ them" — यहाँ verb चाहिए जिसका अर्थ "छोड़ना" हो → desert। दूसरे blank में "vast ______" — यहाँ noun चाहिए जिसका अर्थ "विशाल बंजर भूमि" हो → desert। दोनों blanks में एक ही spelling desert आती है — noun और verb दोनों रूप में।

Previous Year Questionपिछले वर्ष का प्रश्न2025
Which of the following pairs of homonyms can be used to fill in the blanks most suitably? After realizing their leader had planned to ______ them in the middle of the vast ______, the people refused to follow him any further.
  1. desert, dessert
  2. dessert, desert
  3. desert, desert
  4. dessert, dessert
Solutionसमाधान
'Desert' (verb) means to abandon, and 'dessert' (noun) means a sweet dish — but here 'vast' suggests a landscape, so 'desert' (barren land) fits the second blank. The first blank needs 'desert' (to abandon) and the second needs 'desert' (arid land), making option C correct.

क्यों यह प्रश्न: born और borne SSC CHSL का सबसे classic pair है। यह प्रश्न passive voice के context में आता है जो इसे और कठिन बनाता है।

समाधान का रास्ता: "new ideas are ______" — उत्पत्ति/जन्म का भाव → born। "challenges are bravely ______" — सहने का भाव, bear का past participle → borne। BORNE = BURDEN याद रखो।

Previous Year Questionपिछले वर्ष का प्रश्न2025
Which of the following pairs of homonyms can be used to fill in the blanks most suitably? Many new ideas are ______ when challenges are bravely ______ by those who dare to think differently.
  1. borne, born
  2. born, bourn
  3. born, borne
  4. bourn, bourne
Solutionसमाधान
'Born' means brought into existence (new ideas are born), while 'borne' means carried or endured (challenges are bravely borne). Option A correctly places 'born' and 'borne' in their respective contexts.

क्यों यह प्रश्न: Homograph के "NOT a meaning" type का पहला उदाहरण। यह test करता है कि तुम किसी common word के सभी standard अर्थ जानते हो या नहीं।

समाधान का रास्ता: advance के confirmed अर्थ हैं — आगे बढ़ना, पेशगी, अग्रिम, प्रगति। "Special benefits" किसी भी dictionary में advance का अर्थ नहीं — यह perks या privileges का अर्थ है। Elimination से यह तुरंत पकड़ में आता है।

Previous Year Questionपिछले वर्ष का प्रश्न2025
Which of the following options is NOT one of the meanings of the homonym 'advance'?
  1. Progress
  2. Move forward
  3. Ahead of time
  4. Special benefits
Solutionसमाधान
'Special benefits' is not a meaning of the word 'advance'; the word advance typically means to move forward, make progress, or do something ahead of schedule.

क्यों यह प्रश्न: resolution एक ऐसा homograph है जिसके कई legitimate अर्थ हैं — दृढ़ निश्चय, प्रस्ताव, समाधान, resolution (screen)। परीक्षा में गलत अर्थ को पहचानना है।

समाधान का रास्ता: "written agreement between two companies in a merger" — यह concept merger agreement या MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) का है, resolution का नहीं। resolution का सबसे करीबी अर्थ "एक formal meeting में पारित प्रस्ताव" होता है, न कि companies के बीच legal agreement।

Previous Year Questionपिछले वर्ष का प्रश्न2025
Which of the following options is NOT one of the meanings of the homonym 'resolution'?
  1. The quality of an image or screen, especially in terms of clarity
  2. A written agreement between two companies involved in a merger
  3. A firm decision to do or not to do something
  4. The act of solving a problem, dispute, or contentious matter
Solutionसमाधान
Resolution does not specifically mean a written agreement between two companies in a merger; that concept is typically referred to as a merger agreement or contract, not a resolution.

क्यों यह प्रश्न: signet और cygnet एक rare pair है जो SSC CHSL 2025 में आया — यह दिखाता है कि परीक्षा अब uncommon homophones भी test करने लगी है।

समाधान का रास्ता: "______ ring slipped from his finger" → अंगूठी के साथ signet (मुहर-अंगूठी)। "a curious ______ paddled over" → तालाब में तैरना, जीव का संदर्भ → cygnet (हंस का बच्चा)। "mistaking it for food, swallowed it" — यह confirm करता है कि दूसरा blank एक जीव है।

Previous Year Questionपिछले वर्ष का प्रश्न2025
Which of the following pair of homonyms can be used to fill in the blanks most suitably? As his ______ ring slipped from his finger and sank into the pond, a curious ______ paddled over and, mistaking it for food, swallowed it whole.
  1. symbol, cymbal
  2. signet, cygnet
  3. cygnet, signet
  4. cymbal, symbol
Solutionसमाधान
A 'signet' ring is a type of ring with an engraved seal, and a 'cygnet' is a young swan. The sentence describes a ring sinking and a young swan (cygnet) swimming over, so 'signet, cygnet' is the correct pair.

क्यों यह प्रश्न: "Correctly used homonym" type — यहाँ born का सही प्रयोग ढूंढना है। यह प्रश्न directly born/borne की practical understanding test करता है।

समाधान का रास्ता: "She was born in the barn" — born = जन्म लेना, यह grammatically और अर्थ दोनों से सही है। barn = अस्तबल/खलिहान — यह location है, जो plausible है। अन्य options में borne का गलत प्रयोग birth context में किया गया होगा।

Previous Year Questionपिछले वर्ष का प्रश्न2025
Pick the correctly used homonym.
  1. She was borne in the barn.
  2. She was born in the barn.
  3. The weight was barn by him.
  4. He born the weight easily.
Solutionसमाधान
'Born' means to come into existence by birth, so 'She was born in the barn' uses the word correctly. The other options either misuse 'borne' or confuse 'barn' and 'borne'.

क्यों यह प्रश्न: principle/principal शायद English vocabulary का सबसे classic confusion pair है। SSC CHSL इसे हर साल किसी न किसी रूप में लाता है।

समाधान का रास्ता: "core ______ of fairness" — fairness एक ethical value है → principle (सिद्धांत)। "even though the ______ disagreed" → कोई व्यक्ति, school context में → principal (प्रधानाचार्य)। principAL = A person trick यहाँ सीधे काम करती है।

Previous Year Questionपिछले वर्ष का प्रश्न2025
Which of the following pairs of homonyms can be used to fill in the blanks most suitably? The teacher's decision was guided by the core ______ of fairness, even though the ______ disagreed with her approach.
  1. principle, principal
  2. principal, principle
  3. principal, principal
  4. principle, principle
Solutionसमाधान
'Principle' means a fundamental belief or rule, while 'principal' refers to a person in authority (like a school head). The sentence needs 'principle' for the value and 'principal' for the person.

क्यों यह प्रश्न: defuse/diffuse एक modern pair है जो abstract contexts में आता है। "tension को defuse करना" एक idiomatic expression है जो SSC CHSL level पर महत्वपूर्ण है।

समाधान का रास्ता: "managed to ______ the tension" → tension कम करना, neutralize करना → defuse। "before it could ______ into a full-blown conflict" → फैलना, spread होना → diffuse। deFUSE = fuse हटाना (neutralize), diFUSE = di (apart) + fuse = फैलाना।

Previous Year Questionपिछले वर्ष का प्रश्न2025
Which of the following pairs of homonyms can be used to fill in the blanks most suitably? The negotiator managed to ______ the tension in the room before it could ______ into a full-blown conflict.
  1. elevate, alleviate
  2. diffuse, defuse
  3. alleviate, elevate
  4. defuse, diffuse
Solutionसमाधान
'Defuse' means to reduce tension, and 'diffuse' means to spread out. The negotiator 'defused' the tension before it could 'diffuse' (spread) into a full conflict.
