intermediate 18 min read

(Conversion)

| मूल कथन | वैध रूपांतरण | |---|---| | सभी A, B हैं | कुछ B, A हैं (valid) | | कोई A, B नहीं | कोई B, A नहीं (valid) | | कुछ A, B हैं | कुछ B, A हैं (valid) | | कुछ A, B नहीं हैं | रूपांतरण सम्भव नहीं (invalid) |

(Syllogistic Rules)

यदि "सभी A, B हैं" और "सभी B, C हैं" — तो "सभी A, C हैं" और साथ ही "कुछ C, A हैं" भी।

यदि "कुछ A, B हैं" और "सभी B, C हैं" — तो "कुछ A, C हैं"।

यदि "सभी A, B हैं" और "कोई B, C नहीं" — तो "कोई A, C नहीं"।

यदि "कुछ A, B हैं" और "कोई B, C नहीं" — तो "कुछ A, C नहीं"।

उत्तर होगा "Either I or II follows।"

Venn Diagram

  1. Maximum overlap diagram —
  2. Minimum overlap diagram —

(Chain Method)

A → B → C → D

"कुछ A, B हैं" + "सभी B, C हैं" + "सभी C, D हैं" ⟹ "कुछ A, D हैं" (chain के ज़रिए)

patternALL-ALL = ALL

"सभी A, B हैं" + "सभी B, C हैं" → "सभी A, C हैं"

SSC CHSL PYQ (2023): "सभी हाथी बाघ हैं + सभी बाघ घोड़े हैं → सभी हाथी घोड़े हैं → कुछ घोड़े हाथी हैं।"

patternSOME + ALL = SOME (आगे की तरफ)

"कुछ A, B हैं" + "सभी B, C हैं" → "कुछ A, C हैं" ✓

"सभी A, B हैं" + "कोई B, C नहीं" → "कोई A, C नहीं"

"कुछ A, B हैं" + "कोई B, C नहीं" → "कुछ A, C नहीं"

याद रखो: Universal Negative (No) का रूपांतरण हमेशा valid है — "कोई A, B नहीं" का मतलब "कोई B, A नहीं" भी।

SSC CHSL 2020 PYQ: "सभी तोते कबूतर हैं + कोई कबूतर मेज़ नहीं → कोई तोता मेज़ नहीं।"

eliminationComplementary Pair Detector

शर्त: निष्कर्ष I और II एक ही subject-predicate pair पर हों, एक "कुछ A, B हैं" और दूसरा "कोई A, B नहीं"।

अगर यह शर्त पूरी हो → उत्तर "Either I or II follows।"

SSC CHSL 2018 PYQ में "Some axes are saws" और "No axe is saw" — यही complementary pair थी।

SOME — Conversion Shortcut

"कुछ A, B हैं" को convert करो → "कुछ B, A हैं"

अगर हाँ → "Either I or II"।

क्यों यह प्रश्न: तीन-कथन chain का classic उदाहरण — SOME+ALL+ALL की श्रृंखला।

Previous Year Question
In this question, three statements are given, followed by three conclusions numbered I, II and III. Assuming the statements to be true, even if they seem to be at variance with commonly known facts, decide which of the conclusion(s) logically follows/follow from the statements. Statements: Some carrots are onions. All onions are potatoes. All potatoes are radish. Conclusions: I. Some carrots are radish. II. All onions are radish. III. No carrot is a potato.
  1. Both conclusions I and II follow.
  2. Only conclusion I follows.
  3. Only conclusion III follows.
  4. Only conclusion II follows.
Solution
From 'Some carrots are onions' and 'All onions are potatoes', some carrots are potatoes; combined with 'All potatoes are radish', some carrots are radish (Conclusion I ✓). From 'All onions are potatoes' and 'All potatoes are radish', all onions are radish (Conclusion II ✓). Conclusion III is false since some carrots are potatoes. So both I and II follow.

क्यों यह प्रश्न: ALL+ALL और Universal Negative का combination — दोनों rules एक साथ test होते हैं।

Previous Year Question
Read the given statements and conclusions carefully. You have to take the given statements to be true even if they seem to be at variance with commonly known facts. You have to decide which conclusion/s logically follow/s from the given statements. Statements: All elephants are tigers. All tigers are horses. No horse is a camel. Conclusion (I): Some horses are elephants. Conclusion (II): Some camels are tigers.
  1. Only conclusion I follows.
  2. Both conclusions I and II follow.
  3. Neither conclusion I nor II follows.
  4. Only conclusion II follows.
Solution
Since all elephants are tigers and all tigers are horses, all elephants are horses, so some horses are elephants — Conclusion I is valid. Since no horse is a camel and all tigers are horses, no tiger is a camel, meaning no camels are tigers — Conclusion II does not follow. Only Conclusion I follows.

क्यों यह प्रश्न: SOME+SOME chain जो काम नहीं करती — और SOME+ALL जो काम करती है।

Previous Year Question
Three statements are given, followed by three conclusions numbered I, II and III. Assuming the statements to be true, even if they seem to be at variance with commonly known facts, decide which of the conclusions logically follow(s) from the statements. Statements: Some butters are honeys. Some honeys are breads. All breads are jams. Conclusions: I. Some jams are honeys. II. All honeys are butters. III. Some jams are butters.
  1. Only conclusion II follows.
  2. Only conclusions I and II follow.
  3. Only conclusions I and III follow.
  4. Only conclusion I follows.
Solution
Some honeys are breads, and all breads are jams, so some honeys are jams — meaning some jams are honeys (Conclusion I follows). Conclusion II (All honeys are butters) cannot be derived since only some butters are honeys. Conclusion III requires some butters to be jams, which isn't certain. Only Conclusion I follows.

Previous Year Question
In the question two statements are given, followed by two conclusions, I and II. You have to consider the statements to be true even if they seem to be at variance from commonly known facts. You have to decide which of the given conclusions, if any, follows from the given statements. Statements: I. Each correct is wrong. II. No wrong is right. Conclusions: I. No correct is right. II. Some wrongs are correct.
  1. Only conclusion II follows.
  2. Both conclusion I and II follow.
  3. Neither conclusion I nor II follow.
  4. Only conclusion I follows.
Solution
From 'Each correct is wrong' and 'No wrong is right,' we can deduce that no correct thing is right (Conclusion I follows). However, Conclusion II (Some wrongs are correct) cannot be definitively established from these statements alone.

क्यों यह प्रश्न: Complementary pair का textbook उदाहरण — "Either II or III"।

Previous Year Question
Three statements are given, followed by three conclusions numbered I, II and III. Assuming the statements to be true, even if they seem to be at variance with commonly known facts, decide which of the conclusions logically follow(s) from the statements. Statements: All knifes are axes. All axes are swords. All saws are swords. Conclusions: I. All swords are knifes. II. Some axes are saws. III. No axe is saw.
  1. Either conclusion II or III follows.
  2. Only conclusions I and II follow.
  3. All the conclusions follow.
  4. Only conclusion I follows.
Solution
From the statements, conclusions I and II cannot be definitively established. However, conclusions II and III are complementary (either some axes are saws, or no axe is a saw must be true), so either II or III follows.
