SSC GD के लिए वाक्य सुधार — व्याकरण के मुख्य नियम और शॉर्टकट

intermediate 18 min read

अवधारणा

वाक्य सुधार (Sentence Improvement) SSC GD के English section का एक ऐसा topic है जहाँ तुम्हें एक वाक्य का underlined हिस्सा दिया जाता है और तुम्हें यह तय करना होता है कि वह हिस्सा व्याकरण की दृष्टि से सही है या नहीं। अगर गलत है, तो चार options में से सबसे उचित विकल्प चुनना होता है।

इसे एक उदाहरण से समझो। मान लो तुम patrol पर हो और तुम्हारे साथी ने report लिखी: "The new recruits was given training in weapons handling." तुम तुरंत पकड़ोगे — recruits बहुवचन है, तो "was" नहीं चलेगा। यही काम इस question-type में करना है — गलती पकड़ो और सुधारो।

SSC GD में वाक्य सुधार के प्रश्न मुख्यतः इन चार क्षेत्रों से आते हैं:

1. Subject-Verb Agreement — कर्ता और क्रिया का मेल। 2. Tense — काल का सही प्रयोग, especially perfect tenses। 3. Preposition — since/for, at/in/on जैसी prepositions। 4. Indirect Speech और Conjunctions — whether/that/if का सही प्रयोग।

10th-pass level के लिए यह topic manageable है, बशर्ते तुम नियमों को pattern की तरह याद करो, definition की तरह नहीं। यह page तुम्हें वही patterns देगा।

गहन विश्लेषण

नियम 1: Subject-Verb Agreement — सबसे ज़्यादा पूछा जाने वाला नियम

यह SSC GD में सबसे ज़्यादा error का source है। नियम सरल है — singular subject के साथ singular verb (is/was/has), plural subject के साथ plural verb (are/were/have)।

Tricky Cases जो SSC GD में पूछे जाते हैं:

(a) Neither...nor / Either...or: इन structures में verb उस subject के अनुसार होती है जो verb के सबसे पास होता है।

(b) Along with / as well as / together with: जब इन phrases का प्रयोग हो, तो verb मुख्य subject (पहले वाले) के अनुसार होती है — बाद वाला subject "extra" की तरह होता है।

(c) Collective Nouns: Team, army, family, committee — ये singular माने जाते हैं जब वे एक unit की तरह काम करें।

नियम 2: Since vs For — Preposition की गलती

यह गलती लगभग हर exam में आती है।

"The CRPF officer has been working since five years" — गलत। "Five years" एक अवधि है, बिंदु नहीं। "The CRPF officer has been working for five years" — सही।

नियम 3: Infinitive के बाद क्रिया का रूप

"Help someone to" के बाद क्रिया का base form (V1) आता है, past form नहीं।

यही नियम इन structures पर भी लागू होता है:

नियम 4: Indirect Speech में Conjunction का प्रयोग

जब कोई question को indirect (reported) speech में कहा जाए, तो:

"The commanding officer asked his men that whether they were ready" — गलत। "The commanding officer asked his men whether they were ready" — सही।

नियम 5: Pronoun Case — Except/For के बाद

Preposition के बाद हमेशा objective pronoun (me, him, her, us, them) आता है, न कि subjective pronoun (I, he, she, we, they)।

यह गलती तब होती है जब लोग "I sounds formal/correct" सोचते हैं। लेकिन preposition के बाद हमेशा "me" आएगा।

नियम 6: Hardly/Scarcely...when — Perfect Tense Structure

"Hardly/Scarcely...when" और "No sooner...than" — ये structures Past Perfect के साथ आते हैं।

"Neither Ram nor his soldiers were..." — soldiers plural है, were आया। बस।

eliminationSince = Point, For = Period — 2-second Test

जब since/for का प्रश्न हो, तुरंत time expression को देखो। अगर वहाँ number + unit है (five years, three days, two hours) — हमेशा for आएगा। अगर specific point है (2019, Monday, childhood) — since आएगा। इस test से option elimination: 3 seconds। सोचकर करो तो: 15-20 seconds।

substitutionPreposition के बाद I कभी नहीं

जब भी pronoun question हो और वाक्य में preposition दिखे (for, with, except, between, by), तुरंत I, he, she, we को eliminate करो। Objective case (me, him, her, us) ही सही है। Test: "Except for you and I/me" — "for" preposition है, तो "me"। Steps saved: 3 (normally 5-step pronoun case analysis, अब सिर्फ़ 2-step)।

patternAlong With = Ignore करो

"Along with", "as well as", "together with" दिखे तो इन्हें mentally bracket में डाल दो। जो subject इनसे पहले आया है, उसी के according verb तय करो। "Officers [along with families] have..." — officers plural, इसलिए have। Standard parsing: 25 seconds। इस trick से: 8 seconds।

patternHad Hardly = No Substitution का signal

"Had hardly/scarcely...when" structure अगर वाक्य में correctly आया हो (had + V3 + when + V2) तो 95% chance है answer "No substitution required" होगा। SSC GD इसे trap की तरह पूछता है — students "hardly" को awkward समझकर बदलने लगते हैं। पहले structure check करो, सही है तो हाथ मत लगाओ। Time saved: 15 seconds (बिना trap में फँसे)।

तेज़-समाधान रूपरेखा

परीक्षा-हॉल में वाक्य सुधार का प्रश्न देखते ही यह क्रम follow करो:

Step 1 — Underlined part पहचानो। क्या underlined है? Verb है, pronoun है, preposition है, या conjunction है?

Step 2 — Error type identify

Previous Year Questionपिछले वर्ष का प्रश्न2023
Expect for you and I, everyone brought a present to the party.
  1. With the exception of you and I, everyone brought
  2. Except for you and I, everyone had brought
  3. Except for you and me, everyone brought
  4. Except for you and me, everyone had brought
Solutionसमाधान

समाधान का रास्ता: "Except for" एक preposition phrase है। Preposition के बाद objective pronoun आता है — "me", न कि "I"। साथ ही "Expect" की जगह "Except" सही spelling है। दोनों errors एक साथ।

क्यों यह प्रश्न: Infinitive के बाद verb का रूप — Defence context में यह error बहुत आती है।

Previous Year Questionपिछले वर्ष का प्रश्न
Select the most appropriate option to substitute the underlined segment in the given sentence. If there is no need to substitute it, select 'No substitution required'. The training will help the cadets to developed their physical fitness and mental strength.
  1. to develop their
  2. for developed their
  3. in developed their
  4. No substitution required
Solutionसमाधान
After 'help someone to', we use the base form of the verb. The correct form is 'to develop' not 'to developed'.
'Help someone to' के बाद क्रिया का मूल रूप प्रयोग होता है। सही रूप 'to develop' है 'to developed' नहीं।

समाधान का रास्ता: "Help someone to" के बाद हमेशा base form (V1) आता है। "Developed" past form है, इसलिए गलत। "To develop" सही है।

क्यों यह प्रश्न: Neither...nor का नियम — सबसे ज़्यादा गलत होने वाला question type।

Previous Year Questionपिछले वर्ष का प्रश्न
Select the most appropriate option to substitute the underlined segment in the given sentence. If there is no need to substitute it, select 'No substitution required'. Neither the officer nor his subordinates was present at the parade.
  1. were present at
  2. are present at
  3. is present at
  4. No substitution required
Solutionसमाधान
In 'Neither...nor' construction, the verb agrees with the noun closer to it. Since 'subordinates' is plural and closer to the verb, we use 'were present'.
'Neither...nor' की संरचना में क्रिया उस संज्ञा के अनुसार होती है जो उसके पास है। चूंकि 'subordinates' बहुवचन है और क्रिया के पास है, इसलिए 'were present' का प्रयोग होगा।

समाधान का रास्ता: "Nor" के बाद "his subordinates" है जो plural है। Verb इसके according होगी — "were present"। "Was" singular के लिए होता, जो यहाँ गलत है।

क्यों यह प्रश्न: "No substitution required" option को trap की तरह पूछा जाता है।

Previous Year Questionपिछले वर्ष का प्रश्न
Select the most appropriate option to substitute the underlined segment in the given sentence. If there is no need to substitute it, select 'No substitution required'. The patrol team had hardly reached the checkpoint when the alarm rang.
  1. No substitution required
  2. had hardly reach
  3. hardly reached
  4. have hardly reached
Solutionसमाधान
The sentence is grammatically correct. 'Had hardly reached...when' is the correct structure for expressing that one action was barely completed when another began.
वाक्य व्याकरण की दृष्टि से सही है। 'Had hardly reached...when' की संरचना सही है जो दर्शाती है कि एक क्रिया मुश्किल से पूरी हुई थी जब दूसरी शुरू हो गई।

समाधान का रास्ता: "Had hardly reached...when" — यह perfect structure है। Had + V3 + when + V2। वाक्य बिल्कुल सही है। घबराकर बदलो मत।

क्यों यह प्रश्न: Since vs For — हर exam में आता है, SSC GD में भी।

Previous Year Questionपिछले वर्ष का प्रश्न
Select the most appropriate option to substitute the underlined segment in the given sentence. If there is no need to substitute it, select 'No substitution required'. The CRPF officer has been working in this post since five years.
  1. for five years
  2. from five years
  3. within five years
  4. No substitution required
Solutionसमाधान
'Since' is used with a point of time (since 2019), while 'for' is used with a period of time (for five years). Here we need 'for five years' as it indicates duration.
'Since' का प्रयोग समय के बिंदु के साथ होता है (since 2019), जबकि 'for' का प्रयोग समयावधि के साथ होता है (for five years)। यहाँ 'for five years' चाहिए।

समाधान का रास्ता: "Five years" एक duration है, point नहीं। Duration के साथ "for" आता है। "Since five years" गलत है, "for five years" सही।

क्यों यह प्रश्न: Subject-Verb Agreement — recruits plural है, यह पहचानना ज़रूरी है।

Previous Year Questionपिछले वर्ष का प्रश्न
Select the most appropriate option to substitute the underlined segment in the given sentence. If there is no need to substitute it, select 'No substitution required'. The new recruits was given training in weapons handling.
  1. were given training
  2. was gave training
  3. were gave training
  4. No substitution required
Solutionसमाधान
'Recruits' is plural, so it requires the plural verb 'were' instead of 'was'. The correct form is 'were given training'.
'Recruits' बहुवचन है, इसलिए इसके साथ बहुवचन क्रिया 'were' का प्रयोग होगा 'was' के बजाय। सही रूप 'were given training' है।

समाधान का रास्ता: "Recruits" plural noun है। Passive voice में plural subject के साथ "were given" आएगा, "was given" नहीं।

क्यों यह प्रश्न: Double conjunction की गलती — "that whether" एक classic SSC GD error है।

Previous Year Questionपिछले वर्ष का प्रश्न
Select the most appropriate option to substitute the underlined segment in the given sentence. If there is no need to substitute it, select 'No substitution required'. The commanding officer asked his men that whether they were ready for the mission.
  1. asked his men whether
  2. asked to his men whether
  3. asked his men that if
  4. No substitution required
Solutionसमाधान
In indirect questions, we use 'whether' or 'if' but not 'that whether' together. The correct form is 'asked his men whether'.
अप्रत्यक्ष प्रश्नों में हम 'whether' या 'if' का प्रयोग करते हैं लेकिन 'that whether' एक साथ नहीं। सही रूप 'asked his men whether' है।

समाधान का रास्ता: Indirect question में "whether" या "if" में से एक चुनते हैं। "That" और "whether" दोनों एक साथ नहीं आते। "Asked his men whether" सही structure है।

क्यों यह प्रश्न: Along with का trap — officers plural है लेकिन students "families" देखकर confuse होते हैं।

Previous Year Questionपिछले वर्ष का प्रश्न
Select the most appropriate option to substitute the underlined segment in the given sentence. If there is no need to substitute it, select 'No substitution required'. All the CISF officers along with their families has been invited to the function.
  1. have been invited
  2. has been invite
  3. have been invite
  4. No substitution required
Solutionसमाधान
When 'along with' is used, the verb agrees with the main subject. Here 'officers' is plural, so 'have been invited' is correct, not 'has been invited'.
जब 'along with' का प्रयोग होता है, तो क्रिया मुख्य कर्ता के अनुसार होती है। यहाँ 'officers' बहुवचन है, इसलिए 'have been invited' सही है, 'has been invited' नहीं।

समाधान का रास्ता: "Along with" के साथ verb मुख्य subject के अनुसार होती है। "Officers" plural है इसलिए "have been invited" सही है। "Along with their families" को bracket में डाल दो — यह verb को affect नहीं करता।
