beginner 18 min read

समानुपात (Proportion) तब होती है जब दो अनुपात बराबर हों। जैसे 3:5 = 6:10 — यह समानुपात है। इसे a:b :: c:d लिखते हैं, जिसका अर्थ है a/b = c/d, यानी a × d = b × c (cross-multiplication)।

अनुपात a:b का अर्थ है a/b। कुछ जरूरी properties:

Connected Ratio (तीन या अधिक राशियों का अनुपात)

दिया हो: A:B = 2:3 और B:C = 5:8

अगर A:B:C = 2:3:4 और A+B+C = 180, तो:

Increment/Decrement के बाद नया ratio

Class AC : First : Sleeper = 1:2:7 (passengers) Rate ratio = 5:4:2 Income ratio = 1×5 : 2×4 : 7×2 = 5:8:14 Total = 5+8+14 = 27 parts AC की income = (5/27) × 54000 = ₹10,000

Party/Group ratio problems (condition-based)

Example: A:B = 5:3, और A-B = ₹400। Ratio difference = 5-3 = 2। k = 400/2 = 200। A = 5×200 = ₹1000, B = 3×200 = ₹600।

patternConnected Ratio — LCM method

Example: A:B = 2:3, B:C = 4:5। B की values 3 और 4 → LCM = 12। A:B = 8:12, B:C = 12:15। इसलिए A:B:C = 8:12:15।

patternIncome Ratio = Passengers × Rate (Product shortcut)

Example: Ratio 1:2:7, Rate 5:4:2 → Income 5:8:14। Total = 27। AC = 5/27 × 54000 = 10000।

Standard method में system of equations: 3 steps। यह method: 1 equation, 1 step।

Example: n coins each of ₹1, 50p, 25p। Total = n(1 + 0.5 + 0.25) = 1.75n = 35 → n = 20।

eliminationParty Problem — एक variable, cross multiply

Example: Ladies = x, Gents = 2x। After leaving: (x-2)/(2x-2) = 1/3 → 3x-6 = 2x-2 → x = 4। Total = 3×4 = 12।

Previous Year Question
If A : B : C = 2 : 3 : 4, then A/B · B/C · C/A is equal to :
  1. 4 : 9 : 16
  2. 8 : 9 : 12
  3. 8 : 9 : 16
  4. 8 : 9 : 24
Solution

(A/B) × (B/C) × (C/A) में numerator और denominator को देखो — B, B से cancel होगा; C, C से; A, A से। A/B × B/C × C/A = 1। A/B : B/C : C/A ratio पूछता है, न product। A=2, B=3, C=4 रखो: A/B = 2/3, B/C = 3/4, C/A = 4/2 = 2।

Previous Year Question
A sum of money is to be distributed among A, B, C, D in the proportion of 5 : 2 : 4 : 3. If C gets ₹ 1000 more than D, what is B's share?
  1. ₹ 500
  2. ₹ 1500
  3. ₹ 2000
  4. None of these
Solution

समाधान का रास्ता: A:B:C:D = 5:2:4:3। C और D का ratio difference = 4-3 = 1। Actual difference = ₹1000। k = 1000।

Previous Year Question
The sum of three numbers is 98. If the ratio of the first to the second is 2 : 3 and that of the second to the third is 5 : 8, then the second number is :
  1. 20
  2. 30
  3. 38
  4. 48
Solution

समाधान का रास्ता: First:Second = 2:3, Second:Third = 5:8। Second की values 3 और 5 → LCM = 15। First:Second = 10:15, Second:Third = 15:24। Combined: 10:15:24। Total parts = 49। Sum = 98। 1 part = 98/49 = 2। Second = 15 × 2 = 30।

Previous Year Question
The ratio of number of ladies to gents at a party was 1 : 2, but when 2 ladies and 2 gents left, the ratio became 1 : 3. How many people were originally present at the party?
  1. 6
  2. 9
  3. 12
  4. None of these
Solution

Cross multiply: 3(x-2) = 1(2x-2) → 3x-6 = 2x-2 → x = 4। Original total = x+2x = 3×4 = 12।

Previous Year Question
A man divides his property so that his son's share to his wife's and the wife's share to his daughter are both in the ratio 3 : 1. If the daughter gets ₹ 10,000 less than the son, find the total worth of the property.
  1. ₹ 16,200
  2. ₹ 16,250
  3. ₹ 16,500
  4. None of these
Solution

Son-Daughter difference = 9-1 = 8 parts = ₹10,000। 1 part = ₹1250। Total = 13 parts = 13×1250 = ₹16,250।

Previous Year Question
A bag contains an equal number of one rupee, 50 paise and 25 paise coins respectively. If the total value is ₹ 35, how many coins of each type are there?
  1. 20 coins
  2. 30 coins
  3. 28 coins
  4. None of these
Solution

Total value = n×1 + n×0.50 + n×0.25 = 1.75n = 35। n = 35/1.75 = 20।

Previous Year Question
The salaries of A,B,C are in the ratio 2 : 3 : 5. If the increments of 15%, 10% and 20% are allowed respectively in their salaries, then what will be the new ratio of their salaries?
  1. 3 : 3 : 10
  2. 10 : 11 : 20
  3. 23 : 33 : 60
  4. Cannot be determined
Solution

Increments 15%, 10%, 20%। New values: A = 2×1.15 = 2.30, B = 3×1.10 = 3.30, C = 5×1.20 = 6.00। Ratio = 2.30:3.30:6.00 → ×10 → 23:33:60।

Previous Year Question
In an express train, the passengers travelling in A.C. sleeper class, First class and Sleeper class are in the ratio 1:2:7, and rate for each class is in the ratio 5 : 4 : 2. If the total income from this train is ₹ 54, 000, find the income of Indian Railways from A.C. sleeper class.
  1. ₹ 12,000
  2. ₹ 20,000
  3. ₹ 22,000
  4. ₹ 10,000
Solution

Income ratio = 1×5 : 2×4 : 7×2 = 5:8:14। Total = 27 parts = ₹54,000। 1 part = 2000। AC class = 5×2000 = ₹10,000।
