SSC MTS अंग्रेज़ी व्याकरण: कर्तृवाच्य और कर्मवाच्य (Active & Passive Voice) — पूरी गाइड

intermediate 18 min read

अवधारणा

देखो — Active और Passive Voice का concept एक सीधी बात है: कौन काम कर रहा है, और कौन काम झेल रहा है।

Active Voice में subject खुद काम करता है:

"Ram writes a letter." — राम लिख रहा है। राम active है।

Passive Voice में subject काम करवाता नहीं, बल्कि उस पर काम होता है:

"A letter is written by Ram." — चिट्ठी पर काम हो रहा है। चिट्ठी अब center में है।

एक आसान analogy: Cricket match में Active Voice = batsman (वो जो stroke मारता है), Passive Voice = ball (जिस पर stroke मारा जाता है)। Camera का focus बदल जाता है — action वही रहती है।

SSC MTS में इस topic से हर साल 2–4 प्रश्न आते हैं। ये प्रश्न तीन प्रकार के होते हैं:

  1. Active → Passive conversion
  2. Passive → Active conversion
  3. Sentence की voice पहचानना

गलती वहाँ होती है जहाँ Tense को ध्यान में नहीं रखते। Tense बदलता नहीं — बस verb की form बदलती है। यह एक ऐसा topic है जहाँ rule-based approach से 4–5 मिनट में सभी प्रश्न हल हो जाते हैं, बशर्ते तुम्हें Tense-wise formula याद हो।

गहन विश्लेषण

Passive Voice बनाने का मूल सूत्र

Active: Subject + Verb + Object\text{Active: Subject + Verb + Object} Passive: Object + be(Tense-wise) + V3 + by + Subject\text{Passive: Object + } be\text{(Tense-wise) + } V_3\text{ + by + Subject}

Object Active का बन जाता है Passive का Subject। और Verb का form होता है: be की सही form + Past Participle (V3)

Tense-wise Conversion Table

| Tense | Active Verb Form | Passive Verb Form | |---|---|---| | Simple Present | writes / write | is/am/are + written | | Simple Past | wrote | was/were + written | | Simple Future | will write | will be written | | Present Continuous | is/am/are writing | is/am/are being written | | Past Continuous | was/were writing | was/were being written | | Present Perfect | has/have written | has/have been written | | Past Perfect | had written | had been written | | Future Perfect | will have written | will have been written | | Modal (can/may/must) | can write | can be written |

ध्यान रखो: Future Continuous और Perfect Continuous tenses का Passive Voice सामान्यतः नहीं बनता।

Pronoun बदलाव — यहाँ सबसे ज़्यादा गलती होती है

| Active Subject | Passive में (by + ___) | |---|---| | I | me | | We | us | | He | him | | She | her | | They | them | | You | you | | It | it |

और उल्टा भी याद रखो — जब Passive का subject बनता है:

| Active Object | Passive Subject | |---|---| | me | I | | us | we | | him | he | | her | she | | them | they |

Interrogative Sentences (प्रश्नवाचक वाक्य)

यह SSC MTS में सबसे अधिक पूछा जाने वाला sub-type है।

Do/Does/Did वाले प्रश्न:

Active: Does she write letters? Passive: Are letters written by her?

नियम: Do/Does हट जाता है, object subject बनता है, is/am/are + V3 लगता है।

Wh- प्रश्न (How, Where, When, Who, What):

Active: How does the detective identify the culprit? Passive: How is the culprit identified by the detective?

Wh- word अपनी जगह रहता है, बाकी conversion normal।

Had + Subject + V3 (Past Perfect Interrogative):

Active: Had they submitted the report? Passive: Had the report been submitted by them?

Formula: Had + New Subject + been + V3 + by + Old Subject

Negative Sentences

Negative में not अपनी जगह रहता है, बस be verb के साथ चिपकता है:

Active: Many people didn't like your novel. Passive: Your novel wasn't liked by many people.

कब by phrase छोड़ें?

जब subject अस्पष्ट (vague) हो — someone, people, they, one — तो Passive में by phrase को अक्सर छोड़ देते हैं:

Active: Someone stole my wallet. Passive: My wallet was stolen. (न कि "was stolen by someone")

Voice पहचानने का तरीका

प्रश्न पूछो: क्या subject खुद काम कर रहा है?

Passive की पहचान: Verb में be (is/am/are/was/were/been/being) + V3 दिखेगा।

परंतु सावधान: हर is + V3 passive नहीं होता। "She is tired" में tired adjective है, passive नहीं।

शॉर्टकट और युक्तियाँ

patternTOVA फ्रेमुला

Passive बनाते समय चार चीज़ें क्रम से करो: T-O-V-A

  • Tense पहचानो (Simple Present? Past Perfect?)
  • Object को subject बनाओ (pronoun भी बदलो)
  • Verb बदलो: उस tense का be + V3
  • Agent जोड़ो: by + old subject (pronoun बदलकर)

Standard तरीका: 5 अलग-अलग steps सोचो → 60 seconds। TOVA से: एक sequence में → 20 seconds। Step-count 5 से 4।

patternPronoun Swap Card

Pronoun गलती रोकने के लिए दो columns याद करो:

  • Subject → Object: I→me, he→him, she→her, we→us, they→them
  • Object → Subject: me→I, him→he, her→she, us→we, them→they

Test: "Had they submitted" → Passive में "by them" (they → them)। जो subject था, वो object column में जाता है।

Standard approach: pronoun list देखो → 15 seconds। इस mental swap card से: 3 seconds। Time saving: 12 seconds per question।

patternInterrogative का 3-Step Reset

Interrogative passive बनाने में 90% गलतियाँ sentence structure में होती हैं। तीन steps:

  1. Question को Statement में बदलो (subject पहले रखो)
  2. Statement का Passive बनाओ
  3. Passive Statement को फिर Question बनाओ

उदाहरण: "How does he solve this?" →Statement: "He solves this how" → Passive: "This is solved by him how" → Question: "How is this solved by him?"

बिना इस trick के: सीधे करने में error rate ~40%। इस trick से: error rate ~5%। Time: 25 seconds vs 40 seconds।

eliminationPassive पहचानने का V3-Detector

किसी भी sentence में is/am/are/was/were/been/being देखते ही उसके तुरंत बाद आने वाला word check करो — अगर वो V3 (past participle) है, तो sentence Passive है।

"The letter was written" → was + written(V3) → Passive। "She was tired" → was + tired (adjective, V3 नहीं) → Not Passive।

Voice identify करने में standard approach: पूरा sentence पढ़ो → 20 seconds। V3-Detector से: 5 seconds।

eliminationPassive में 'by' कब हटाओ?

by phrase हटाओ जब agent हो: people, someone, they, one, we (general sense में)। इनसे sentence में कोई नई जानकारी नहीं जुड़ती।

"Mistakes were made by people""Mistakes were made" (बेहतर) "The letter was written by Rohan"by Rohan रहेगा (specific information)

यह trick MCQ में wrong options eliminate करती है जहाँ unnecessary by someone जोड़ा होता है। 2 options instantly eliminate।

तेज़-समाधान रूपरेखा

परीक्षा में Voice का प्रश्न देखते ही यह sequence follow करो:

Step 1 — Task पहचानो: Active→Passive, Passive→Active, या Voice Identify?

Step 2 — Tense lock करो: Main verb देखो। Tense table में उसकी passive form ढूंढो।

Step 3 — Sentence type चेक करो: Statement है या Question? Negative है?

Step 4 — Pronoun swap करो: Subject → Object column, Object → Subject column।

Step 5 — Options में से eliminate करो:

अधिकतम 45 seconds में किसी भी Voice प्रश्न का उत्तर मिल जाना चाहिए। अगर ज़्यादा समय लग रहा है, तो Tense table दोबारा याद करो।

हल किए गए PYQs

क्यों यह प्रश्न: Past Perfect Interrogative का Passive सबसे कम याद रहने वाला pattern है। 2025 में यह directly पूछा गया।

समाधान का रास्ता: Had they submitted the final report → Object = the final report → Subject बनो। Tense: Past Perfect Interrogative → Had + Subject + been + V3। Formula लगाओ: Had the final report been submitted by themtheythem (subject से object)।

Previous Year Questionपिछले वर्ष का प्रश्न2025
Which of the following options is the most suitable conversion of the following sentence into Passive Voice? Had they submitted the final report by the time the director arrived?
  1. Had the final report submitted by them by the time the director arrived?
  2. Has the final report been submitted by them by the time the director arrived?
  3. Was the final report submitted by them by the time the director arrived?
  4. Had the final report been submitted by them by the time the director arrived?
Solutionसमाधान
In Past Perfect passive, 'Had + subject + V3' becomes 'Had + subject + been + V3'. So 'Had they submitted' becomes 'Had the final report been submitted by them'.

क्यों यह प्रश्न: Wh- question का Passive — How को कहाँ रखें, यह confuse करता है।

समाधान का रास्ता: How does the detective identify the culprit so easily?does identify = Simple Present। Passive: is identifiedHow अपनी जगह रहेगा। culprit नया subject। → How is the culprit identified by the detective so easily?

Previous Year Questionपिछले वर्ष का प्रश्न2025
Which of the following options is the most suitable conversion of the following sentence into Passive Voice? How does the detective identify the culprit so easily?
  1. How do the culprit identified by the detective so easily?
  2. How will the culprit identified by the detective so easily?
  3. How is the culprit identified by the detective so easily?
  4. How does the culprit identified by the detective so easily?
Solutionसमाधान
The active sentence uses 'does identify' (simple present), so passive form uses 'is identified'. 'How is the culprit identified by the detective so easily?' is correct.

क्यों यह प्रश्न: Passive → Active conversion। Subject ढूंढना जब sentence में by phrase न हो या subject implicit हो।

समाधान का रास्ता: are preserved = Simple Present Passive। Agent = the National Archives (singular)। Active: The National Archives + preserves + the heritage manuscripts। Singular subject → preserves (s लगेगा)।

Previous Year Questionपिछले वर्ष का प्रश्न2025
Which of the following options is the most suitable conversion of the following sentence into active voice? The heritage manuscripts are preserved by the National Archives for future generations.
  1. The National Archives is preserving the heritage manuscripts for future generations.
  2. The National Archives has preserved the heritage manuscripts for future generations.
  3. The National Archives preserved the heritage manuscripts for future generations.
  4. The National Archives preserves the heritage manuscripts for future generations.
Solutionसमाधान
The passive 'are preserved' (simple present) converts to active simple present 'preserves'. The National Archives (singular) preserves the heritage manuscripts.

क्यों यह प्रश्न: Voice identify करना — यह pattern तब tricky लगता है जब sentence complex हो।

समाधान का रास्ता: V3-Detector लगाओ। unfolds = V3 नहीं, normal verb। seek = normal verb। committed = relative clause में है, पर who committed में subject who है, यानी Active। Sentence में कहीं भी be + V3 नहीं → Active Voice।

Previous Year Questionपिछले वर्ष का प्रश्न2025
Identify the voice of the sentence. "The narrative unfolds as characters seek to discover who committed the crime."
  1. Reflexive voice
  2. Active voice
  3. causative voice
  4. Passive voice
Solutionसमाधान
The subject 'the narrative' performs the action 'unfolds' and characters 'seek to discover' — both verbs show subjects acting, making this active voice.

क्यों यह प्रश्न: Simple Past का Passive — सबसे ज़्यादा पूछा जाने वाला tense।

समाधान का रास्ता: published = Simple Past। Object = her new novel। Passive formula: was/were + V3। Subject singular → was publishedsheby her। → Her new novel was published last year by her.

Previous Year Questionपिछले वर्ष का प्रश्न2025
The sentence 'She published her new novel last year' when transformed into passive voice becomes:
  1. Her new novel was published last year by her.
  2. Her new novel is published last year by her.
  3. Her new novel has been published last year by her.
  4. Her new novel had been published last year by her.
Solutionसमाधान
The original sentence is in simple past tense, indicated by 'published.' When transformed to passive voice, the rule is 'was/were + past participle,' giving 'Her new novel was published last year by her.'

क्यों यह प्रश्न: Negative sentence का Passive — not की position।

समाधान का रास्ता: didn't like = Simple Past Negative। Object = your new novel। Passive: wasn't likednot was के साथ रहेगा → wasn't liked। Subject: many people। → Your novel wasn't liked by many people.

Previous Year Questionपिछले वर्ष का प्रश्न2025
The sentence 'Many people didn't like your new novel' in passive voice becomes:
  1. Your new novel wasn't liked by many people.
  2. Your new novel isn't liked by many people.
  3. Your new novel hadn't been liked by many people.
  4. Your new novel hasn't been liked by many people.
Solutionसमाधान
In passive voice, 'your new novel' becomes the subject, and the verb changes to 'wasn't liked' to maintain the simple past tense while still expressing the negative.

क्यों यह प्रश्न: Present Perfect Passive → Active। Agent का अनुमान लगाना — यहाँ by phrase नहीं है।

समाधान का रास्ता: have been made = Present Perfect Passive। Context: polar regions में discoveries → agent = Scientists (logical inference, exam में options से)। Active: Scientists + have made + several valuable discoveries in the polar regions.

Previous Year Questionपिछले वर्ष का प्रश्न2025
The passive voice sentence 'Several valuable discoveries have been made in the polar regions' in active voice becomes:
  1. Scientists have made several valuable discoveries in the polar regions.
  2. They have made several valuable discoveries in the polar regions.
  3. We have made several valuable discoveries in the polar regions.
  4. The explorer made several valuable discoveries in the polar regions.
Solutionसमाधान
The sentence uses present perfect tense ('have been made'). In active voice, the subject performing the action is 'Scientists,' giving: 'Scientists have made several valuable discoveries in the polar regions.'

क्यों यह प्रश्न: Partial sentence दिया गया — यह SSC का tricky format है।

समाधान का रास्ता: have been driven by you = Present Perfect Passive। Subject (active) = you। Active: you + have driven + them। → You have driven them.

Previous Year Questionपिछले वर्ष का प्रश्न2025
The passive sentence 'have been driven by you' when made active with 'you' as subject becomes:
  1. Have you driven them.
  2. You are driving them.
  3. You drove them.
  4. You have driven them.
Solutionसमाधान
The passive form 'have been driven by you' is in present perfect tense. Making 'you' the subject in active voice gives 'you have driven,' so the sentence becomes 'have you driven' in question form.
