SSC MTS अंग्रेज़ी सामान्य व्याकरण — Articles, Parts of Speech, Tenses और Conjunctions

beginner 18 min read

Parts of Speech उस इमारत की ईंटें हैं — Noun, Verb, Adjective, Adverb, Pronoun, Preposition, Conjunction, Interjection। Articles (a, an, the)

Articles — a, an, the का तर्क

Articles तीन हैं: a, an, the। इन्हें याद रखने की नहीं, समझने की ज़रूरत है।

A और An — Indefinite Articles

The — Definite Article

The तब लगता है जब:

  1. किसी specific, already-known चीज़ की बात हो।
  2. Superlative degree हो: "the best", "the most beautiful", "the tallest"।
  3. Unique चीज़ें हों: the sun, the moon, the earth।
  4. किसी समूह में सर्वोच्च को दर्शाना हो।

Article न लगने के cases:

Parts of Speech —

"love" noun भी है ("His love was deep") और verb भी ("I love music")। इसलिए sentence में शब्द का काम देखो।

Degree of Comparison — तीन degrees

Positive: सामान्य तुलना नहीं, सिर्फ़ गुण बताना। "She is tall."

Comparative: दो के बीच तुलना। "She is taller than him." / "She is more intelligent than him."

Superlative: तीन या अधिक में सबसे ऊपर। हमेशा "the" के साथ।

याद रखो: Superlative में the हमेशा mandatory है। यह rule ही PYQ में सबसे ज़्यादा test होता है।

Conjunctions और Phrases का Function

Coordinating Conjunctions (FANBOYS): For, And, Nor, But, Or, Yet, So — दो independent clauses जोड़ते हैं।

Subordinating Conjunctions: although, because, while, since, if — एक clause को दूसरे पर dependent बनाते हैं।

Important Phrases:

"to" के बाद हमेशा base verb (infinitive) आता है। "to banned" गलत है, "to ban" सही है। यह rule Cloze Test और Error Spotting दोनों में काम आता है।

शॉर्टकट और युक्तियाँ

patternSuperlative = The, हमेशा — कोई exception नहीं

जब भी sentence में "-est" या "most + adjective" दिखे, blank में the आएगा — बिना सोचे। "She is ___ most hardworking student" → the।

Standard method: पूरा Article rule याद करके decide करो — 30 सेकंड। Shortcut: Superlative देखा → the लगाया — 5 सेकंड। यह 4 steps से 1 step में आता है।

elimination'to' के बाद — Base Verb Test

"to" के बाद आने वाला verb हमेशा base form में होगा। Options में से "-ed", "-ing", या "-s/-es" वाले सभी options eliminate करो।

उदाहरण: "He decided ___ (ban/banned/banning/band) the activity."

  • "to" है → base form चाहिए → "ban" बचा → answer। Standard method: सभी options grammar-check करो — 40 सेकंड। Shortcut: Non-base forms eliminate करो — 10 सेकंड। Options 4 से 1 हो जाते हैं।
patternPart of Speech — Function Test

किसी भी word का Part of Speech पूछा जाए तो sentence में उसके आस-पास देखो:

  • Object है उसके बाद → Verb।
  • Noun के पहले है और describe करता है → Adjective।
  • Verb के बाद है और "how/when/where" बताता है → Adverb।

"intrigue readers" → readers = object → intrigue = Verb। Standard method: सभी 8 parts याद करके match करो — 35 सेकंड। Shortcut: Function test — 8 सेकंड। 8 options से directly 1 पर पहुँचो।

elimination'such as' vs 'such that' — Purpose vs Example

"such as" = examples देना (जैसे, उदाहरण के रूप में)। "such that" = result या degree बताना।

अगर options में दोनों हों: clause में specific examples list हो → "such as"। Result/consequence हो → "such that"। Step count: 4 options से 2 options eliminate होते हैं — 15 सेकंड बचते हैं।

patternA/An Sound Rule — Spelling नहीं, Sound देखो

"An" लगाने से पहले अगला word ज़ोर से बोलो। अगर मुँह खुलकर शुरू हो (a, e, i, o, u sound) → an। बंद हो → a।

Examples: an MBA (एम-बीए → 'एम' = vowel sound), a university (यू = consonant sound), an hour (आवर = vowel sound), a European (यूरो = consonant sound)। यह trick spelling-based confusion को खत्म करती है — 4 tricky exceptions को बिना याद किए solve करो।

तेज़-समाधान रूपरेखा

परीक्षा में Grammar question देखते ही यह decision tree follow करो:

Step 1 — Question type identify करो:

Step 2 — Context clue देखो:

Step 3 — Elimination करो:

लक्ष्य: Articles और Parts of Speech के प्रश्न 15-20 सेकंड में। Degree of Comparison 20-25 सेकंड में।

हल किए गए PYQs

क्यों यह प्रश्न: यह Superlative + Article का सबसे direct test है। Blank में a, an, the, या कुछ नहीं — यही decision SSC MTS में बार-बार पूछी जाती है।

Previous Year Questionपिछले वर्ष का प्रश्न2017
A mother is ______ most beautiful
  1. the
  2. an
  3. my
  4. a
Solutionसमाधान
The superlative 'most beautiful' requires the definite article 'the' to indicate she is the ultimate example.

समाधान का रास्ता: "most beautiful" देखो → Superlative degree है → Superlative के पहले हमेशा "the" → answer: the। एक भी step extra नहीं।

क्यों यह प्रश्न: SSC MTS 2025 में Parts of Speech identification का pattern — एक word को sentence में देखकर उसकी grammatical role पहचाननी है।

Previous Year Questionपिछले वर्ष का प्रश्न2025
In the sentence "Both genres intrigue readers but from different narrative perspectives." What is 'intrigue'?
  1. Noun
  2. Pronoun
  3. Verb
  4. Adjective
Solutionसमाधान
In this sentence, 'intrigue' functions as a verb meaning 'to fascinate or interest', with 'genres' as the subject and 'readers' as the object.

समाधान का रास्ता: "intrigue readers" → "readers" object की तरह काम कर रहा है "intrigue" के बाद। Subject (genres) + _____ + Object (readers) = Verb structure। इसलिए 'intrigue' = Verb

क्यों यह प्रश्न: Degree of Comparison का theoretical प्रश्न — "सर्वोच्च" को express करने के लिए कौन सा form सही है। यह concept-based question है।

Previous Year Questionपिछले वर्ष का प्रश्न2025
While talking about one person as being the highest in rank or quality, which form should be used?
  1. Comparative form with 'er'
  2. Comparative form with 'more'
  3. Positive form
  4. Superlative form with 'the most'
Solutionसमाधान
When referring to one person as being the highest in rank or quality among a group, we use the superlative form with 'the most.' For example: 'the most influential leader in the country.'

समाधान का रास्ता: "एक व्यक्ति को समूह में सबसे ऊपर" बताना है → Superlative degree → "the most" के साथ। Comparative (more than) दो के बीच होती है, यहाँ एक की बात है → Superlative form with 'the most' सही।

क्यों यह प्रश्न: "such as" phrase का function — यह 2025 के नए pattern का हिस्सा है जहाँ phrase की grammatical/rhetorical role पूछी जाती है।

Previous Year Questionपिछले वर्ष का प्रश्न2025
In the sentence below, what is the function of the phrase "such as"? "The skills acquired in these fields such as critical thinking, clear communication, close reading, and research are highly valued across many industries."
  1. To introduce examples
  2. To show cause and effect
  3. To introduce a comparison
  4. To indicate contrast
Solutionसमाधान
'Such as' is used to introduce specific examples of the fields mentioned, illustrating what kinds of skills are being referred to.

समाधान का रास्ता: "such as critical thinking, clear communication, close reading, and research" — यहाँ specific skills की list दी जा रही है। "such as" = examples introduce करना। बाकी options (to add contrast, to show result, to define) eliminate हो जाते हैं क्योंकि कोई contrast या result नहीं है।

क्यों यह प्रश्न: "to + base verb" rule — infinitive के साथ सही verb form। यह Error Spotting और Fill in the Blanks दोनों में आता है।

Previous Year Questionपिछले वर्ष का प्रश्न2025
Which base verb should come next to 'to' in the sentence about officially prohibiting something?
  1. Ban
  2. Band
  3. Bane
  4. Banned
Solutionसमाधान
The base verb 'Ban' should come next to 'to', making 'to ban' correct. 'Banned' is the past tense, and 'Band' and 'Bane' are different words entirely.

समाधान का रास्ता: "to ___" structure है → base verb चाहिए। Options में "Banned" = past tense (eliminate), "Band" = अलग word (eliminate), "Bane" = noun (eliminate)। बचा → Ban। यह pure elimination है।
