SSC MTS अंग्रेज़ी वाक्य सुधार — हर नियम और shortcut जो परीक्षा में काम आए

intermediate 18 min read

अवधारणा

Sentence Improvement यानी वाक्य सुधार — इसमें एक गलत या अधूरा वाक्य दिया जाता है और तुम्हें चार विकल्पों में से वह विकल्प चुनना है जो उस वाक्य को व्याकरणिक रूप से सही बना दे।

SSC MTS में यह section इसलिए आसान नहीं है क्योंकि गलती अक्सर इतनी सूक्ष्म होती है कि पहली नज़र में वाक्य बिल्कुल सही लगता है। उदाहरण के लिए — "The news are very important" पढ़ते वक्त कई लोग सोचते हैं "news तो बहुत-सी बातें होती हैं, इसलिए 'are' सही होगा।"

Simple Present
  3. Pronoun का सही रूप — 'I' बनाम 'me', 'who' बनाम 'whom'
  4. Gerund बनाम Infinitive — 'deny', 'avoid', 'enjoy' जैसी क्रियाओं के बाद
  5. Preposition का सही प्रयोग — 'since' बनाम 'from', 'between' बनाम 'among'

इन पाँचों को एक-एक करके समझ लो और SSC MTS के 80% Sentence Improvement प्रश्न तुम खुद solve कर सकते हो।

गहन विश्लेषण

Category 1: Subject-Verb Agreement के tricky cases

यह सबसे ज़्यादा बार आने वाली category है।

Each / Every / Either / Neither — हमेशा एकवचन

देखो — जब भी 'Each', 'Every', 'Either', 'Neither' subject हो या subject के साथ जुड़ा हो, क्रिया हमेशा एकवचन लेती है। भले ही बाद में 'of the boys', 'of the students' जैसी बहुवचन संज्ञा आए।

Collective Nouns — context

'one of those + बहुवचन संज्ञा + who' — यहाँ क्रिया बहुवचन होगी

यह सबसे confusing case है। "She is one of those students who always come late." — यहाँ 'who' का antecedent 'students' है, 'one' नहीं। इसलिए 'come' (बहुवचन) सही है।

Category 2: Tense — 'since' और 'from' का फ़र्क

SSC MTS में Tense पर जो प्रश्न आता है वह अक्सर यही होता है: भूतकाल के किसी निश्चित समय से शुरू होकर अभी तक जारी रहने वाली क्रिया।

नियम: जब कोई काम अतीत में शुरू हुआ और अभी भी जारी हो, तो:

| गलत | सही | |-----|-----| | I am living in Delhi from 2020. | I have been living in Delhi since 2020. | | She is working here from three years. | She has been working here for three years. |

'From' का प्रयोग समय-बिंदु के साथ तब होता है जब भविष्य की बात हो: "Classes will start from Monday."

Category 3: Pronoun — 'I' बनाम 'me'

Prepositions (between, with, for, to, of) के बाद हमेशा object pronoun आता है:

| Subject Pronoun | Object Pronoun | |----------------|----------------| | I | me | | He | him | | She | her | | They | them | | We | us |

"Between you and me" ✓ — न कि "between you and I"।

यह rule याद रखने का तरीका: preposition के बाद 'I' कभी नहीं — बस इतना याद रखो।

Category 4: Gerund बनाम Infinitive — fixed-list क्रियाएँ

कुछ क्रियाएँ हमेशा gerund (-ing form) लेती हैं, infinitive (to + V1) नहीं:

Gerund लेने वाली क्रियाएँ (DAРЕ + enjoy):

"He denied taking the bribe." ✓ (न कि "denied to take")

कुछ क्रियाएँ हमेशा Infinitive लेती हैं:

Category 5: Auxiliary Verb — 'don't' बनाम 'doesn't'

Simple Present Tense में:

"He doesn't know the answer." ✓ (न कि "He don't know")

इसी तरह प्रश्नवाचक वाक्यों में: "Does he know?" ✓

Micro-example: "She avoids eating junk food." — 'to eat' देखो तो तुरंत गलत मानो। Standard method: gerund/infinitive rules याद करना → 30 सेकंड। MAPES pattern → 8 सेकंड।

patternSince-For-From त्रिकोण

तीन चरणों में decide करो:

  1. क्या काम अभी भी जारी है? → Present Perfect Continuous चाहिए।
  2. क्या एक निश्चित time-point है (2020, Monday, morning)? → since
  3. क्या एक अवधि है (3 years, 2 hours)? → for 'From' सिर्फ़ भविष्य में शुरू होने वाली चीज़ों के लिए। Standard method: सभी tense rules याद करना → 40 सेकंड। यह त्रिकोण → 10 सेकंड।
eliminationPreposition + 'me' Rule

Preposition के बाद 'I' देखते ही — option काटो। यह 100% गलत है। Prepositions: between, with, for, to, of, by, from, at, in। "Between you and I" → गलत। "Between you and me" → सही। यह elimination trick 4 options में से 2-3 को 3 सेकंड में काट देती है।

pattern's' में खत्म होने वाले एकवचन — False Plural List

NMP-E याद करो: News, Mathematics/Mathematics जैसे सभी -ics words (Physics, Economics, Politics, Statistics), Economics। नियम: '-ics' में खत्म होने वाले subjects + News → हमेशा एकवचन। Micro-example: "Economics is my favourite subject." — 'are' देखते ही option काटो। Standard method: हर शब्द separately याद करना → 4 steps। NMP-E → 1 step।

तेज़-समाधान रूपरेखा

परीक्षा हॉल में Sentence Improvement का प्रश्न देखते ही यह क्रम follow करो:

Step 1 — Subject identify करो (3 सेकंड) वाक्य का subject कौन है? Singular है या Plural? ENEE में से है?

Step 2 — Verb देखो (3 सेकंड) Subject और Verb match हो रहे हैं? 'Don't' या 'Doesn't'? 'Is' या 'Are'?

Step 3 — Tense signal देखो (5 सेकंड) 'Since', 'for', 'from', 'yesterday', 'already' जैसे words हैं? इनसे Tense decide करो।

Step 4 — Preposition चेक करो (3 सेकंड) Preposition के बाद कोई pronoun है? Object form (me, him, her) होना चाहिए।

'Have' गलत, 'has' सही। Pronoun भी एकवचन चाहिए — 'their' गलत, 'his' सही। Option (C) में दोनों सही हैं।

Previous Year Questionपिछले वर्ष का प्रश्न
Select the correct option to improve: 'Each of the boys have completed their homework.'
  1. Each of the boys have completed his homework.
  2. Each of the boys has completed their homework.
  3. Each of the boys has completed his homework.
  4. Each of the boys had completed their homework.
Solutionसमाधान
'Each' is singular and requires singular verb 'has' and singular pronoun 'his'. Even when followed by plural noun, 'each' remains singular.

क्रिया 'is' होगी। Option (A) सही।

Previous Year Questionपिछले वर्ष का प्रश्न
Identify the error and choose the correct sentence: 'Neither of the students are present today.'
  1. Neither of the students is present today.
  2. Neither of the students were present today.
  3. Neither of the student are present today.
  4. Neither of the students have present today.
Solutionसमाधान
'Neither' is always singular and takes a singular verb 'is'. Even though 'students' is plural, 'neither' refers to not one of them.
'Neither' हमेशा एकवचन होता है और एकवचन क्रिया 'is' लेता है। यद्यपि 'students' बहुवचन है, 'neither' का अर्थ है उनमें से कोई भी नहीं।

क्यों यह प्रश्न: Present Perfect Continuous + since — Tense का सबसे common error।

समाधान का रास्ता: '2020 से अब तक जारी' → Present Perfect Continuous → 'have been living'। Time-point (2020) है → 'since'। 'from' गलत। Option (C) सही।

Previous Year Questionपिछले वर्ष का प्रश्न
Choose the best improvement for: 'I am living in Delhi from 2020.'
  1. I am living in Delhi since 2020.
  2. I have been living in Delhi from 2020.
  3. I have been living in Delhi since 2020.
  4. I was living in Delhi from 2020.
Solutionसमाधान
For an action starting at a specific time in the past and continuing to present, use Present Perfect Continuous with 'since'. 'From' is incorrect with time expressions.
भूतकाल के किसी निश्चित समय से शुरू होकर वर्तमान तक जारी रहने वाली क्रिया के लिए Present Perfect Continuous का प्रयोग 'since' के साथ करते हैं। समय के साथ 'from' गलत है।

क्यों यह प्रश्न: 'News' का false plural — 's' में खत्म होने वाला एकवचन शब्द।

समाधान का रास्ता: 'News' → NMP-E list → हमेशा एकवचन → 'is' सही। 'are/were/have' वाले options तुरंत काटो। Option (A) सही।

Previous Year Questionपिछले वर्ष का प्रश्न
Choose the option that corrects the sentence: 'The news are very important today.'
  1. The news is very important today.
  2. The news were very important today.
  3. The news have very important today.
  4. The news being very important today.
Solutionसमाधान
'News' is always singular despite ending in 's'. It takes singular verbs and pronouns. Other similar words include 'mathematics', 'physics', 'economics'.
'News' 's' में समाप्त होने के बावजूद हमेशा एकवचन होता है। यह एकवचन क्रिया और सर्वनाम लेता है। इसी तरह के शब्द हैं 'mathematics', 'physics', 'economics'।

क्यों यह प्रश्न: 'one of those + plural + who' — सबसे confusing Subject-Verb Agreement case।

समाधान का रास्ता: 'who' का antecedent 'students' (बहुवचन) है, 'one' नहीं। इसलिए 'come' (बहुवचन) सही है। Option (A) सही।

Previous Year Questionपिछले वर्ष का प्रश्न
Identify the correct sentence: 'She is one of those students who always comes late.'
  1. She is one of those students who always come late.
  2. She is one of those students who always came late.
  3. She is one of those student who always comes late.
  4. She is one of those students whom always comes late.
Solutionसमाधान
In 'one of those + plural noun + who', the verb agrees with the plural noun 'students', not with 'one'. So 'come' is correct, not 'comes'.
'one of those + बहुवचन संज्ञा + who' में क्रिया बहुवचन संज्ञा 'students' के अनुसार होती है, 'one' के अनुसार नहीं। इसलिए 'come' सही है, 'comes' नहीं।

क्यों यह प्रश्न: 'He' के साथ 'don't' — Auxiliary Verb का basic लेकिन exam में आने वाला error।

समाधान का रास्ता: Subject 'He' → एकवचन तृतीय पुरुष → 'doesn't'। 'Don't knows' गलत क्योंकि 'doesn't' के बाद V1 (base form) आती है। Option (A) सही।

Previous Year Questionपिछले वर्ष का प्रश्न
The given sentence contains an error. Choose the option that corrects it: 'He don't know the answer to this question.'
  1. He doesn't know the answer to this question.
  2. He do not know the answer to this question.
  3. He don't knows the answer to this question.
  4. He doesn't knows the answer to this question.
Solutionसमाधान
The correct form uses 'doesn't' (does not) with the third person singular subject 'He'. 'Don't' is used with plural subjects and first/second person.
तीसरे व्यक्ति एकवचन कर्ता 'He' के साथ 'doesn't' (does not) का प्रयोग होता है। 'Don't' का प्रयोग बहुवचन कर्ता और प्रथम/द्वितीय व्यक्ति के साथ होता है।

क्यों यह प्रश्न: 'Between you and I' — Preposition के बाद pronoun case का classic error।

समाधान का रास्ता: 'Between' preposition है → बाद में object pronoun चाहिए → 'I' नहीं, 'me' सही। 'Myself' reflexive pronoun है, यहाँ applicable नहीं। Option (A) सही।

Previous Year Questionपिछले वर्ष का प्रश्न
Choose the correct option: 'Between you and I, this is a secret.'
  1. Between you and me, this is a secret.
  2. Between you and myself, this is a secret.
  3. Between you and I, this was a secret.
  4. Among you and I, this is a secret.
Solutionसमाधान
After prepositions like 'between', we use object pronouns. 'Me' is the object form of 'I'. This is a common mistake in English.
'Between' जैसे पूर्वसर्गों के बाद object pronouns का प्रयोग होता है। 'Me' 'I' का object form है। यह अंग्रेजी में एक सामान्य गलती है।

क्यों यह प्रश्न: 'Deny' के बाद gerund — MAPES rule का direct application।

समाधान का रास्ता: 'Deny' → MAPES list में है → बाद में -ing form चाहिए → 'taking' सही, 'to take' गलत। Option (A) सही।

Previous Year Questionपिछले वर्ष का प्रश्न
Identify the best improvement: 'He denied to take the bribe.'
  1. He denied taking the bribe.
  2. He denied for taking the bribe.
  3. He denied that take the bribe.
  4. He denied to taking the bribe.
Solutionसमाधान
The verb 'deny' is followed by gerund (-ing form), not infinitive. Some verbs like deny, admit, avoid, enjoy always take gerunds.
क्रिया 'deny' के बाद gerund (-ing form) आता है, infinitive नहीं। कुछ क्रियाएं जैसे deny, admit, avoid, enjoy हमेशा gerund लेती हैं।
