SSC MTS अंग्रेज़ी व्याकरण — त्रुटि पहचान (Spotting Errors)

intermediate 18 min read

Spotting Errors में गलती हमेशा इन सात क्षेत्रों में से किसी एक में होती है:

  1. Tense (काल) — सबसे अधिक पूछा जाता है।
  2. Degree of Comparison (तुलना की मात्रा) — comparative बनाम superlative।
  3. Word Order (शब्द-क्रम) — "never she" जैसी पलटी हुई structure।
  4. Subject-Verb Agreement — subject और verb का मेल।
  5. Articles (a, an, the) — गलत या अनुपस्थित article।
  6. Preposition — गलत preposition का उपयोग।
  7. Pronoun — गलत pronoun case या reference।

SSC MTS के स्तर पर पहले तीन सबसे अधिक बार आते हैं। इसलिए इन्हीं पर ध्यान केंद्रित करो।

गहन विश्लेषण

त्रुटि क्षेत्र 1: Tense (काल) की गलतियाँ

Tense सबसे आम गलती-क्षेत्र है। दो नियम याद रखो:

नियम 1 — Time expression देखो, tense तय हो जाएगा।

| Time Expression | सही Tense | |---|---| | Yesterday, last year, ago | Simple Past (V2) | | For + duration, Since + time point | Perfect Continuous | | Always, usually, generally | Simple Present | | Now, at the moment | Present Continuous |

उदाहरण: "Yesterday, my surgeon operate on my knee." — "Yesterday" देखते ही V2 चाहिए। "operate" → "operated"।

नियम 2 — "For + duration" के साथ Present Continuous गलत है।

"I am observing your activities for half an hour." — यहाँ "for half an hour" है, जो duration बता रहा है। इसके साथ Present Perfect Continuous चाहिए: "I have been observing..."।

याद करो: For/Since + duration = Perfect Continuous (have been + V-ing)

त्रुटि क्षेत्र 2: Degree of Comparison की गलतियाँ

यह SSC MTS में बार-बार आने वाला topic है। तीन नियम हैं:

नियम 1 — "Than" के साथ हमेशा Comparative Degree।

"the cheaper than" — यहाँ "than" है, इसलिए superlative "cheapest" नहीं चाहिए, comparative "cheaper" चाहिए। लेकिन "the" + comparative साथ नहीं आता। सही: "cheaper than all other jackets"।

नियम 2 — "All other" / "any other" के साथ Superlative या Comparative का चुनाव।

नियम 3 — जब तुलना नहीं हो रही, वहाँ Superlative गलत है।

"their faces will get reddest" — यहाँ किसी से तुलना नहीं हो रही। सिर्फ यह कहना है कि faces लाल हो जाएँगे। इसलिए base adjective "red" सही है।

Superlative तभी सही है जब:

नियम 4 — "Most + adjective" बनाम "-est"।

"most tall" — यह गलत है। एक-syllable वाले adjectives के लिए "-est" suffix लगता है: "tallest"। दो या अधिक syllables: "most beautiful" ✓ (लेकिन "beautifullest" ✗)।

त्रुटि क्षेत्र 3: Word Order (शब्द-क्रम) की गलतियाँ

अंग्रेज़ी में word order बहुत strict है। Negative adverbs (never, rarely, seldom, hardly) वाक्य में subject के बाद आते हैं।

गलत: "but never she asked for help" → सही: "but she never asked for help"।

नियम: Negative adverb + Subject की structure तभी सही है जब sentence inversion हो (question form या literary emphasis में)। साधारण affirmative/negative clause में Subject + Negative Adverb + Verb।

त्रुटि क्षेत्र 4: Adverb Placement

"you can almost get every book here" — यहाँ "almost" misplaced है। "Almost every book" सही है क्योंकि "almost" यहाँ "every" को modify कर रहा है, "get" को नहीं। "can almost get" का मतलब बदल जाता है।

नियम: Adverb of degree (almost, nearly, hardly, just) उस शब्द के ठीक पहले आता है जिसे वह modify करता है।

शॉर्टकट और युक्तियाँ

patternTime Word Scanner

वाक्य पढ़ते ही सबसे पहले time expression ढूँढो — Yesterday, last, ago, for, since, now, always। यह word तुम्हें तुरंत बता देगा कि किस tense की ज़रूरत है। फिर verb देखो — match होता है या नहीं।

उदाहरण: "Yesterday... operate" — 1 सेकंड में पकड़ लो कि Simple Past "operated" चाहिए।

साधारण तरीका: पूरा वाक्य grammar के हर नियम से जाँचो — 60 सेकंड। Time Word Scanner: 5-7 सेकंड में tense error पकड़ो।

eliminationThan-The Conflict Rule

वाक्य में "than" देखो — अगर उसके पहले "the" है ("the cheaper than"), तो यह 100% गलत है।

Comparative degree के साथ "the" नहीं आता — सिर्फ "the + superlative" सही है।

3 steps:

  1. "than" ढूँढो।
  2. उसके पहले "the" है? → गलती मिल गई।
  3. "the" हटाओ → सही।

साधारण तरीका: 4 options पढ़कर decide करो — 40 सेकंड। Than-The Conflict Rule: 8 सेकंड।

patternNever/Rarely Flip Test

जब वाक्य में "never, rarely, seldom, hardly, scarcely" दिखे, Subject और इस adverb का order check करो।

Test: क्या adverb Subject से पहले आ रहा है? ("never she", "rarely he") → अगर हाँ और वाक्य question form नहीं है → गलती मिली। → Flip करो: "she never", "he rarely"।

यह trick SSC में word order errors को 10 सेकंड में पकड़ती है। बिना trick के students इसे miss कर देते हैं।

patternMost vs -est Syllable Counter

Adjective के syllables गिनो:

  • 1 syllable (tall, red, big) → "-est" suffix: tallest, reddest, biggest।
  • 2 syllables ending in -y (happy, easy) → "y" को "i" करके "-est": happiest।
  • 2+ syllables (beautiful, expensive) → "most" + adjective।

"most tall" देखते ही — 1 syllable, तो "most" नहीं, "tallest" सही। Standard method: Rule याद करो और apply करो — 20 सेकंड। Syllable Counter: 5 सेकंड।

patternFor/Since Perfect Trigger

"For + time duration" या "Since + time point" देखते ही — वाक्य में Perfect Continuous tense होना चाहिए।

"am observing... for half an hour" → "for" है → "have been observing" चाहिए।

Test: For/Since दिखा → क्या "have been" या "has been" है? नहीं है → गलती। 2 steps, 6 सेकंड। साधारण method में tense chart याद करके apply करना पड़ता है — 25 सेकंड।

तेज़-समाधान रूपरेखा

परीक्षा हॉल में Spotting Errors का प्रश्न देखते ही यह क्रम follow करो:

Step 1 — Time expression scan (2 सेकंड): Yesterday / ago / last → Simple Past चाहिए? For / Since → Perfect Continuous चाहिए? Now / at the moment → Present Continuous?

Step 2 — Degree of comparison check (3 सेकंड): "Than" है → "the + comparative" तो नहीं? → गलती। "Most + 1-syllable adjective" → गलती। Superlative लेकिन कोई comparison नहीं → गलती।

Step 3 — Word order check (2 सेकंड): Never/rarely/seldom subject से पहले?

Previous Year Questionपिछले वर्ष का प्रश्न2017
In the following question, some part of the sentence may have errors. Find out which part of the sentence has an error and select the appropriate option. If a sentence is free from error, select 'No Error'. This book stall is very well stocked (1)/ you can almost get (2)/ every book here. (3)/ No Error (4)
  1. 2
  2. 4
  3. 3
  4. 1
Solutionसमाधान
The word 'get' should be preceded by 'almost' properly, but the correct fix is to use 'almost' before 'get' — the error is in part 2 where 'get' should be replaced with 'almost get' restructured; 'can almost get' requires 'can get almost' for correct usage.

समाधान का रास्ता: Part 2 में "can almost get" देखो। "almost" यहाँ "get" को नहीं, "every" को modify करना चाहिए। सही structure: "can get almost every book here।" "almost" को "every" के ठीक पहले लाना होगा — यही Part 2 की गलती है।

क्यों यह प्रश्न: Negative adverb word order — "never she" vs "she never" — यह SSC MTS में classic trap है।

Previous Year Questionपिछले वर्ष का प्रश्न2017
In the following question, some part of the sentence may have errors. Find out which part of the sentence has an error and select the appropriate option. If a sentence is free from error, select 'No Error'. The old woman continued living a hard life (1)/ but never she (2)/ asked for any help from neighbours. (3)/ No Error (4)
  1. 2
  2. 4
  3. 1
  4. 3
Solutionसमाधान
In part 2, 'never she' is incorrect word order. It should be 'she never' to make the sentence grammatically correct.

समाधान का रास्ता: Never Flip Test लगाओ — Part 2 में "never she" है। यह question form नहीं है, साधारण clause है। इसलिए subject (she) पहले आएगा: "she never"। Part 2 गलत है।

क्यों यह प्रश्न: "The + comparative + than" — यह combination 100% गलत है। 2024 में दो बार आया।

Previous Year Questionपिछले वर्ष का प्रश्न2024
Ravi said that his red jacket is the cheaper than all other jackets.
  1. the cheaper than all other jackets.
  2. Ravi said that
  3. his red jacket is
  4. No error
Solutionसमाधान
When comparing one item with all others of its group, the superlative form is used, not the comparative. 'The cheaper' should be replaced with 'the cheapest', making option (c) the error.

समाधान का रास्ता: "the cheaper than" देखते ही Than-The Conflict Rule लगाओ। "than" के साथ "the" नहीं आता। या तो "cheaper than all other jackets" (comparative) या "the cheapest of all jackets" (superlative) — दोनों में से एक। यहाँ "than" है तो "the" हटाओ।

क्यों यह प्रश्न: Superlative का गलत उपयोग जब कोई comparison नहीं — यह conceptual गलती है।

Previous Year Questionपिछले वर्ष का प्रश्न2024
The following sentence has been divided into parts. One of them may contain an error. Select the part that contains the error, mark 'No error' as your answer if you don't find any error. If the players don't wear sunscreen, / their faces will / get reddest
  1. their faces will
  2. If the players don't wear sunscreen,
  3. get reddest
  4. No error
Solutionसमाधान
The superlative 'reddest' is incorrect here because we are not comparing three or more things; the correct form should be 'get red' (base adjective). The sentence should read: 'If the players don't wear sunscreen, their faces will get red.'

समाधान का रास्ता: "get reddest" — यहाँ तीन या अधिक चीज़ों की तुलना नहीं हो रही। वाक्य सिर्फ यह कह रहा है कि faces लाल हो जाएँगे। Superlative बेकार है। Base adjective "red" सही है: "their faces will get red।"

क्यों यह प्रश्न: Time expression "Yesterday" + wrong tense — Tense error का सबसे सरल और सबसे frequent type।

Previous Year Questionपिछले वर्ष का प्रश्न2024
The following sentence has been divided into parts. One of them may contain an error. Select the part that contains the error from the given options. If you don't find any error, mark 'No error' as your answer. Yesterday, / my surgeon / operate on my knee.
  1. Yesterday
  2. No error
  3. operate on my knee
  4. my surgeon
Solutionसमाधान
The sentence refers to a past event (indicated by 'Yesterday'), so the verb must be in the past tense. 'Operate' should be 'operated', making the phrase 'operate on my knee' the erroneous part.

समाधान का रास्ता: Time Word Scanner — "Yesterday" देखते ही Simple Past चाहिए। Part 3 में "operate" है — base form। Simple Past: "operated"। गलती Part 3 में है।

क्यों यह प्रश्न: "For + duration" के साथ Present Continuous का गलत उपयोग — यह subtle trap है।

Previous Year Questionपिछले वर्ष का प्रश्न2024
Select the option that has an error in the use of present tense.
  1. The mother cooks delicious food for her children.
  2. I have performed all my duties with utmost sincerity.
  3. I am observing your mischievous activities for half an hour.
  4. The painter is painting the wall right now.
Solutionसमाधान
When referring to an action that has been ongoing for a duration (like 'for half an hour'), the present perfect continuous tense should be used. The correct sentence would be 'I have been observing your mischievous activities for half an hour.'

समाधान का रास्ता: For/Since Perfect Trigger लगाओ — "for half an hour" है। इसके साथ Present Perfect Continuous चाहिए: "have been observing।" "am observing" गलत है।

क्यों यह प्रश्न: "Most tall" — 1-syllable adjective के साथ "most" का गलत उपयोग।

Previous Year Questionपिछले वर्ष का प्रश्न2023
The given sentence contains an error. Select the option that correctly rectifies the error. The boy told his mother that he saw the most tall giraffe at the zoo.
  1. The boy told his mother that he saw the tallest giraffe at the zoo.
  2. The boy told his mother that he saw the most taller giraffe at the zoo.
  3. The boy told his mother that he saw the more taller giraffe at the zoo.
  4. The boy told his mother that he saw the most tallest giraffe at the zoo.
Solutionसमाधान
'Most tall' is grammatically incorrect; the correct superlative form of the adjective 'tall' is 'tallest', so option (a) is the correct sentence.

समाधान का रास्ता: Syllable Counter — "tall" = 1 syllable। 1-syllable adjective का superlative = "-est" suffix = "tallest।" "most tall" गलत है। सही: "the tallest giraffe।"
