SSC MTS

beginner 18 min read

(Selling Price — SP)

तीनों की relationship: SP=MP×(100Discount%)100SP = MP \times \frac{(100 - \text{Discount}\%)}{100}

और: Profit%=SPCPCP×100\text{Profit\%} = \frac{SP - CP}{CP} \times 100

Profit%=SPCPCP×100\text{Profit\%} = \frac{SP - CP}{CP} \times 100

Loss%=CPSPCP×100\text{Loss\%} = \frac{CP - SP}{CP} \times 100

SP=CP×(100+Profit%)100SP = CP \times \frac{(100 + \text{Profit\%})}{100}

SP=CP×(100Loss%)100SP = CP \times \frac{(100 - \text{Loss\%})}{100}

CP=SP×100100+Profit%CP = \frac{SP \times 100}{100 + \text{Profit\%}}

CP=SP×100100Loss%CP = \frac{SP \times 100}{100 - \text{Loss\%}}

Multiplier Method —

Discount

SP=MP×(1D%100)SP = MP \times \left(1 - \frac{D\%}{100}\right)

CP=MP×(100D%)(100+P%)CP = \frac{MP \times (100 - D\%)}{(100 + P\%)}

Ratio से Profit/Loss — direct trick

Faulty Weight

Profit%=ErrorTrue WeightError×100\text{Profit\%} = \frac{\text{Error}}{\text{True Weight} - \text{Error}} \times 100

SP=CP25CP=35CPSP = CP - \frac{2}{5}CP = \frac{3}{5}CP

35CP=810\frac{3}{5}CP = 810CP=1350CP = 1350

25×100=40%\frac{2}{5} \times 100 = 40\%

Successive Discount

10%: Effective Discount%=a+bab100\text{Effective Discount\%} = a + b - \frac{ab}{100} =20+10200100=28%= 20 + 10 - \frac{200}{100} = 28\%

Standard method: subtraction → division → multiplication → 3 steps, ~40 seconds

Shortcut: SP/CP ratio = 100/48 = 25/12। Profit% = (25-12)/12 × 100 = 13/12 × 100 = 108.33%।

Profit/Loss%

SP:CP = m:n दिया हो।

  • m > n → Profit% = (m-n)/n × 100
  • m < n → Loss% = (n-m)/n × 100

SP:CP = 3:4 → m=3, n=4 → Loss% = 1/4 × 100 = 25%

Standard method: assume values, subtract, divide — ~35 seconds Shortcut: directly ratio difference/denominator — ~8 seconds, zero assumptions needed।

patternFaulty Weight Profit% — Error/Balance Formula

Profit%=x100x×100\text{Profit\%} = \frac{x}{100-x} \times 100

denominator = (100 - stated error%)।

Profit% — Base 100 Method

50% increase → new SP = 70 × 1.5 = 105। Profit = 5 on CP 100 → 5%।

Step 3 — Chain

Step 4 — Faulty weight?

25% profit → CP = 60/1.25 = 48। बिना discount SP = 100 (MP)। Profit% = (100-48)/48 × 100 = 52/48 × 100 = 108.33%। Multiplier chain: discount multiplier × profit multiplier को reverse में निकालो।

Previous Year Question
After giving a discount of 40% on an article, there is still a profit of 25%. If no discount is given, then what will be the profit percentage?
  1. 108.33%
  2. 25%
  3. 109.33%
  4. 107.67%
Solution
Let MP = ₹100; SP after 40% discount = ₹60; Profit = 25%, so CP = 60/1.25 = ₹48. Without discount, SP = ₹100, Profit% = (100-48)/48 × 100 = 52/48 × 100 = 108.33%.

Previous Year Question
If the ratio of selling price and cost price is 3 : 4 respectively, then what is the loss percentage?
  1. 25%
  2. 20%
  3. 10%
  4. 33.33%
Solution
Let SP = 3x and CP = 4x. Loss = 4x - 3x = x. Loss% = (x/4x) × 100 = 25%.

30% loss → SP = 70। SP में 50% वृद्धि → new SP = 105।

Previous Year Question
An article is sold at 30% loss. If the selling price is increased by 50%, then what is the profit percentage?
  1. 5%
  2. 12%
  3. 20%
  4. 8%
Solution
Let CP = ₹100; SP at 30% loss = ₹70. New SP after 50% increase = 70 × 1.5 = ₹105. Profit = ₹5 on CP of ₹100, so profit% = 5%.

Previous Year Question
A man buys 15 identical articles for a total of ₹15. If he sells each of them for ₹1.32, then his profit percentage is:
  1. 32%
  2. 23%
  3. 50%
  4. 8%
Solution
Cost price per article = ₹15/15 = ₹1. Selling price per article = ₹1.32. Profit % = (1.32−1)/1 × 100 = 32%.

Previous Year Question
A man sold his bicycle for ₹810 losing two-fifth of its cost price. What is the loss percentage?
  1. 40%
  2. 45%
  3. 35%
  4. 50%
Solution
Let cost price = 5x. Loss = 2x, so SP = 3x = 810 → x = 270. CP = 1350, Loss = 540. Loss% = 540/1350 × 100 = 40%.

Previous Year Question
Amar buys a wall clock for ₹300 and sells it for ₹200. Find his percentage loss.
  1. 33.33% loss
  2. 32.33% gain
  3. 31.33% gain
  4. 30.33% loss
Solution
Loss = 300−200 = ₹100. Loss% = (100/300)×100 = 33.33% loss.
