What is Gadyansh and How is it Structured

Gadyansh simply means a piece of prose writing — a short paragraph or a few paragraphs on a topic like nature, society, health, patriotism, or moral values. The passage is followed by 4 to 5 questions. You do not need prior knowledge of the topic — all answers are hidden inside the passage itself. Think of it like a treasure hunt: the passage is the map, and the answers are buried in it.

• Type 1 — Mukhya Bhav (Main Idea): What is the central message of the passage? Look at the first and last lines.
• Type 2 — Shirshak (Best Title): Which title fits the passage best? Always pick the one that covers the whole passage, not just one line.
• Type 3 — Shabdarth / Paryayvachi / Vilom (Word Meaning): A word from the passage is given — find its meaning or opposite. Re-read the sentence around that word.

• Type 5 — Vakyansh Poorna Karna (Fill the Blank from Passage): A line from the passage has a blank — the answer is always in the passage itself.

Step-by-Step Reading Strategy

Most aspirants waste time reading the passage first, then the questions, then re-reading the passage. This is the slow way. Use the Questions-First approach: read questions first so you know what to hunt for, then read the passage. This saves 1-2 minutes per passage which is huge in SSC GD.

• Step 1: Read all questions first — underline keywords in each question
• Step 2: Read the passage once at medium speed — do not stop at difficult words
• Step 3: For main idea and title questions — focus on first line and last line of the passage
• Step 4: For word meaning questions — read 1 sentence before and after the word to guess meaning from context

Common Word Meaning Tricks (Shabdarth Section)

Word meaning questions are gift questions if you know basic Hindi vocabulary. SSC GD passage words are usually from everyday Hindi. Even if you do not know the word, context clues in the passage help you guess. For example, if the passage talks about kindness and the word is 'karuna', you can guess it means compassion even if you forgot the exact meaning.

• Learn common paryayvachi (synonyms): jal = neer = paani; surya = ravi = bhaskar; raat = nisha = ratri
• Learn common vilom (antonyms): din-raat, sukh-dukh, safalta-asafalta, gyaan-agyaan
• Context trick: If the sentence is positive, the word likely has a positive meaning and vice versa
• Eliminate options: Cross out clearly wrong answers first, then pick from remaining

How to Pick the Best Title (Shirshak)

Title questions confuse many aspirants because all 4 options seem related to the passage. The trick is that the correct title covers the WHOLE passage, not just one part. Imagine putting a lid on a box — the lid must cover the entire box, not just one corner. Reject any title that is too narrow (only about one paragraph) or too broad (goes beyond the passage).
