Paryayvachi Shabd are words that carry the same or very similar meaning as another word. The word Paryayvachi itself means samaan arth wale shabd. In SSC GD, you are given one word and four options, and you must pick the word closest in meaning. The trick is that options often include words that look similar but mean something different, so careful reading is essential.

• Choosing a word that is related in meaning but not a true synonym. For example, selecting Krodh as a paryayvachi of Ghrina — both are negative but they are not synonyms.
• Confusing sound-alike words. Agni means fire but Agni and Agni-deva are not interchangeable with Anala in all contexts — read options carefully.
• For vilom, selecting a word that is merely negative or unpleasant instead of the true opposite. Vilom of Sukh is Dukh, not Krodh or Bhay.
• Ignoring rare Sanskrit synonyms. Examiners purposely hide the correct answer as the least familiar word. If you only know common words like Pani you may miss that Ambu is also water.
