B.F. Skinner's behaviorist theory of language acquisition holds that language is learned through imitation, reinforcement, and conditioning. Children imitate the language they hear, and correct usage is reinforced by adults. This contrasts with Chomsky's nativism (innate LAD), Vygotsky's social interaction theory, and Piaget's cognitive view. Skinner's emphasis is on imitation and operant conditioning.
