Between language and script—

There is no fixed or necessary relationship between a language and its script. The same language can be written in multiple scripts (e.g., Punjabi is written in Gurmukhi and Shahmukhi; Hindi-Urdu is the same spoken language but written in Devanagari and Perso-Arabic scripts), and the same script can be used to write many languages (e.g., Devanagari is used for Hindi, Marathi, Nepali, Sanskrit, etc.). Script is a convention adopted historically by a speech community. Language is primarily spoken (oral), while script is a secondary, visual representation. Therefore, the relationship between language and script is conventional and not fixed.
