  1. A.1 only
  2. B.2 only
  3. C.Both 1 and 2✓ Correct
  4. D.Neither 1 nor 2

Explanation

Sawai Jai Singh II of Jaipur, who built the Jantar Mantar observatories, was deeply engaged with European astronomy. He obtained Philippe de La Hire's astronomical tables (Tabulae Astronomicae, 1702) and used them to prepare a refraction table for his own work, the Zij-i-Muhammad Shahi. His astronomers also designed and built their own telescopes, with which they observed the phases of Venus and sunspots. Both statements are therefore correct.
