Conditions of the Governor's office For a constitutional amendment with respect to which of the above, ratification by the Legislatures of not less than one-half of the States is required before presenting the bill to the President of India for assent?

Under Article 368, certain amendments require ratification by the legislatures of at least one-half of the States, in addition to passing by special majority in Parliament. These include: any of the lists in the Seventh Schedule (Union List, State List, Concurrent List); the extent of executive power of the Union and States (Articles 73 and 162); the election of the President (Articles 54-55); and provisions relating to the Supreme Court, High Courts, and Article 368 itself. Conditions of the Governor's office under Article 158 form part of the chapter on the Executive of the State, which includes Article 162 (extent of executive power of State); constitutional amendments affecting State executive arrangements generally require state ratification. All three subjects therefore fall within the category requiring State ratification.
