Coal gasification produces syngas (a mixture of CO and H2) which can be further processed into a wide range of chemicals. Ethanol can be produced from syngas via catalytic conversion. Urea is produced from ammonia (synthesised from syngas hydrogen) and CO2, both available from coal gasification. Nitroglycerine is produced from glycerol and nitric acid, where the nitric acid can be derived from ammonia (a coal gasification product) and glycerol can also be sourced from syngas-derived methanol/biochemical routes. India's coal gasification mission specifically targets production of all three. Hence all three can use coal gasification technology.
