Fa-hien (Faxian), the Chinese Buddhist pilgrim, visited India between 405-411 CE during the reign of Chandragupta II (Vikramaditya) of the Gupta dynasty. He came primarily to collect Buddhist texts and visit sacred Buddhist sites. His travel account 'Fo-Kuo-Ki' (Record of Buddhist Kingdoms) provides valuable information about the social, religious, and economic conditions of Gupta India. He described the prosperity, the mild administration, and the religious tolerance of the period.
