A plane mirror always forms an erect, virtual image of the same size, irrespective of the object's distance. A convex mirror also always forms an erect, virtual, diminished image for any object position. A concave mirror produces an erect image only when the object is within its focal length; beyond that, the image becomes inverted. Therefore if the image looks erect regardless of distance, the mirror must be either plane or convex.
