A compound microscope consists of optical and mechanical parts including the mirror (to reflect light into the condenser), the stage (the platform on which the slide is placed), clips (to hold the slide in place), objective and eyepiece lenses, body tube, coarse and fine adjustment knobs and base. The retina is a part of the human eye that receives the image — it is not a component of the microscope itself. Hence retina is not a part of a compound microscope.
