On her way she meets her friend Nikhat and stops to chat with her for 15 minutes. She resumes her journey at a speed of 8 km/h. What is her average speed for the journey?

Explanation
In the first 10 minutes (1/6 h) at 12 km/h she covers 12 × 1/6 = 2 km. Remaining distance = 4 − 2 = 2 km, covered at 8 km/h taking 2/8 h = 15 minutes. She also stops for 15 minutes. Total time = 10 + 15 + 15 = 40 minutes = 40/60 h = 2/3 h. Average speed = total distance / total time = 4 / (2/3) = 6 km/h.
