L-waves, also known as Love waves and Rayleigh waves, are surface waves generated by earthquakes that travel along the Earth's surface and follow the curvature/circumference of the Earth rather than traveling through its interior. They also travel at a more or less constant rate as they propagate along the surface, unlike P and S waves which change speed dramatically as they pass through materials of varying densities in the Earth's interior. L-waves are the slowest seismic waves but cause the most destruction at the surface.
