The Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope (GMRT), located near Pune in Maharashtra, is operated by the National Centre for Radio Astrophysics (NCRA) of TIFR. It consists of 30 fully steerable parabolic dish antennas, each 45 metres in diameter, spread over distances of up to 25 km. It is one of the largest radio telescope arrays in the world operating at metre wavelengths and uses aperture synthesis to function as a single large telescope.
