Muzaffar Alam is a modern historian who has written extensively on Mughal history; his writings are secondary sources based on his analysis of historical evidence. Abul Fazl (Akbarnama) was Akbar's court historian writing contemporaneously, Rashsundari Devi wrote her autobiography Amar Jiban in the 19th century, and Ziyauddin Barani was a 14th-century historian who chronicled the Delhi Sultanate. The latter three are primary sources as they were written during or about the period they describe by people living in that era.
