Manjaniq (also spelled manjaniq or manjanik) was a stone-throwing siege engine, essentially a mangonel or trebuchet-like device, used extensively in medieval warfare in India by the Delhi Sultanate and other powers. It was used to hurl heavy stones at enemy fortifications during sieges. The term is of Arabic/Persian origin and the device was crucial in siege warfare before the advent of gunpowder artillery.
