Texas Instruments established the first Global Capability Centre (GCC) in India in 1985 in Bangalore, marking the beginning of the Global Capability Centre or Global In-house Centre (GIC) phenomenon in India. This pioneered the trend of multinational corporations setting up captive offshore units in India for IT, R&D, and business process services. Following Texas Instruments, several other companies including Citibank, SAP Labs India, and Honeywell set up their GCCs in India.
