C. Rajagopalachari (popularly known as Rajaji) was the only Indian to hold the position of Governor-General of India. He served as the last Governor-General from June 1948 to January 1950, after Lord Mountbatten. The position was abolished when India became a Republic on 26 January 1950, and Dr. Rajendra Prasad became the first President.
