Why are the soles of the shoes treaded?

The soles of shoes have treads (grooves and patterns) to increase friction between the shoe and the ground. This increased friction provides better grip and prevents slipping, especially on wet or smooth surfaces. Smooth soles would slide easily, making walking dangerous. The treads create more surface contact and channels to displace water, enhancing safety.
