National Sports and Games of India

India does not have an officially declared National Sport by law, but Hockey is traditionally called the National Sport of India. This is a very common question in SSC exams. Field Hockey is where India dominated internationally for decades, winning 8 Olympic Gold medals. Cricket is the most popular sport but is NOT the national sport.

Cricket — Important Facts

Cricket is hugely popular in India and SSC MTS frequently tests ICC tournaments, World Cup winners, and BCCI-related facts. ICC Cricket World Cup (ODI) and ICC T20 World Cup are the two biggest events. India won the ODI World Cup in 1983 and 2011, and the T20 World Cup in 2007 and 2024.
