National Awards and Honours

SSC MTS loves asking about Bharat Ratna, Padma awards, Gallantry awards, and National Film Awards. These are announced every year and are easy to frame as direct questions. Focus on who got which award, in which field, and in which year. Civilian awards like Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri are especially popular.

• Bharat Ratna is the highest civilian honour in India.
• Padma awards are announced on Republic Day eve (January 25).
• Gallantry awards like Param Vir Chakra, Vir Chakra are given on Republic Day and Independence Day.

• Remember the host country and winning team or player for each major tournament.

Important Appointments and Positions

New appointments to constitutional posts, heads of international organisations, and chiefs of armed forces are favourite question areas. SSC MTS asks who is the current Chief Justice of India, RBI Governor, ISRO Chairman, Army/Navy/Air Force Chief, UN Secretary General, and heads of IMF, World Bank etc.

• Chief Justice of India — changes frequently, always update.
• RBI Governor — note the name and tenure start year.
• ISRO Chairman — especially after big space missions.

Science, Technology, and Space

ISRO missions, DRDO achievements, and major science milestones get regular slots in SSC MTS. Chandrayaan, Gaganyaan, Aditya-L1, and defence missile tests are popular. Questions are simple — mission name, objective, and launch date or success date.

• Chandrayaan-3 landed on Moon's south pole on August 23, 2023 — Vikram lander, Pragyan rover.
• Aditya-L1 is India's first solar observatory mission — placed at L1 Lagrange point.
• Gaganyaan is India's first human spaceflight mission — crew selection and test flights are newsworthy.

International Events and Summits

G20, SCO, BRICS, COP summits, and bilateral state visits are asked. India hosted the G20 Summit in 2023 in New Delhi — this alone generated many questions. Know the host country, theme, and key outcomes. Also know India's presidency of various groups.

• COP climate summits — host city and key agreements.
• SCO summits — India's role as chair.

• Confusing similar award names — Padma Vibhushan and Padma Bhushan are different ranks; Padma Vibhushan is higher. Many students mix these up.
• Mixing up the host country with the winning country in sports tournaments — read the question carefully.
• Outdated information — studying only one year of current affairs when the exam covers the past 12-18 months. Always update to the month of the exam.
