National Awards and Honours

Bharat Ratna, Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri are announced every year on Republic Day eve. SSC GD frequently asks who received which award and in which field. Gallantry awards like Param Vir Chakra, Maha Vir Chakra, and Vir Chakra are also important since this is a defence-focused exam. Nobel Prizes, especially Peace and Literature, appear occasionally.

Government Schemes and Policies

The central government launches schemes regularly. SSC GD asks the scheme name, the ministry behind it, its target group, and launch year. Focus on schemes related to defence, police modernisation, farmers, women, health, and digital India — these align with the SSC GD aspirant profile. State government schemes are rarely asked; focus on central schemes.

• Note scheme name + ministry + beneficiary group as a trio.
• Pradhan Mantri schemes are most frequently asked.
• Ayushman Bharat, PM Kisan, Jal Jeevan Mission, PMAY are classic PYQs.

Defence and Paramilitary Current Affairs

Because SSC GD is a paramilitary recruitment exam, questions on India's defence forces appear more here than in other SSC exams. State elections and their results also feature when an election happened close to the exam window.

India's foreign policy events — summit meetings, treaties signed, India's stand in UN, G20 presidency outcomes — come in this category. India's G20 Presidency in 2023 was heavily asked in recent SSC GD papers. BRICS, SCO, QUAD meetings and their outcomes are standard PYQs. Bilateral relations with neighbours (Pakistan, China, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka) appear when there is a major event.

• G20, BRICS, SCO, QUAD, ASEAN — India's role and recent summit host city.
• India's UN Security Council non-permanent membership periods.
• Trade agreements or Memoranda of Understanding signed by India.
• Border disputes and peace talks — know current status, avoid outdated facts.
• India's rank in global indices: Hunger Index, Press Freedom, GDP — note year of index.
• Neighbouring country politics affects bilateral ties — note new PMs or Presidents.

• Mixing up award categories — Param Vir Chakra is wartime only; Ashok Chakra is peacetime. Aspirants often swap these.
• Studying current affairs that are 2-3 years old thinking they are recent. Focus strictly on the 12-18 months before your exam notification date.
• Confusing exercise partner countries — India does many exercises (Shakti with France, Vajra Prahar with USA, Dharma Guardian with Japan). Mixing these up costs easy marks.
• Ignoring Women's sports achievements. SSC GD has started asking about Women's cricket, boxing, and wrestling medals — do not skip these.
• Memorising scheme names but forgetting the ministry. Questions often ask which ministry launched a scheme, not just the scheme name.

• SSC GD GK paper has 80 questions. Roughly 15-20 come from current affairs. Even getting 10 correct here can secure a safe score, so do not skip this section thinking it is hard.
• The exam usually covers events from 12 months before the official notification date, not the exam date. Check when the notification was released and count back 12 months from there.
• Defence and sports current affairs appear almost every year in SSC GD. If you have limited time, prioritise these two areas over political appointments.
• In PYQs from 2022 and 2023 SSC GD papers, G20 India Presidency, Chandrayaan-3, and Asian Games 2023 medal winners were repeatedly asked. Always check the last 2 years of actual PYQs before your exam.
• For last-minute revision, use a monthly current affairs PDF from a reliable source (like GKToday or Adda247) for the 3 months just before your exam — those months are statistically the most tested.
