A man lends out a sum of money by putting 40% of it at 7.5% p.a. simple interest and the remaining 60% at 11.25% p.a. simple interest. After 2½ years (2.5 years) his total interest income is ₹6,825. What was the original sum (principal) he lent?

  1. A.₹27692.31
  2. B.₹30000✓ Correct
  3. C.₹28000
  4. D.₹25000

Explanation

Let principal = P. Interest = P×0.4×7.5/100×2.5 + P×0.6×11.25/100×2.5 = P(0.075 + 0.16875) = 0.2275P = 6825. So P = 6825/0.2275 = ₹30,000.
