Bhattavatara composed the Jainavilas (also known as Jaina-vilasa or Jaina-tarangini), a history of the rulers of Kashmir, during the reign of Sultan Zainul Abidin (1420–1470 CE). Jonaraja and Shrivara continued Kalhana's Rajatarangini tradition by composing the second and third Rajataranginis respectively, also during the Sultanate of Kashmir period. Zainul Abidin was known as a great patron of learning and literature, and several historical works were composed under his patronage.
