RBI is the regulator of banks in India and its decisions appear in almost every IBPS PO paper. Questions come from Monetary Policy Committee meetings (repo rate, reverse repo, CRR, SLR changes), new banking licences, and guidelines issued for payments banks or small finance banks. Think of RBI as the heartbeat of the financial GK section — if something happens in banking, RBI is usually connected to it.

Government Schemes and Budgets

The trick is that two similar-sounding schemes can confuse you — for example PM Awas Yojana (urban) vs PM Awas Yojana (rural) fall under different ministries. IBPS PO tests international affairs mostly from India's angle — G20, SCO, BRICS, QUAD meetings, bilateral agreements, and India's rankings in global indices. Remember: it is not just which summit happened, but where it was held and who chaired it. India's presidency of G20 in 2023 generated many questions that still appear as context in 2024 papers. Global indices like Ease of Doing Business, Global Hunger Index, Human Development Index — India's rank and the publishing organisation are commonly asked.

This is the easiest scoring area if you revise regularly. Awards like Bharat Ratna, Padma awards, Nobel Prizes, Booker Prize, and Oscars are directly asked. Sports questions focus on who won which tournament, India's medal tally at Asian Games or Olympics, and newly appointed sports federation heads. Appointments of heads of PSBs, insurance companies, SEBI, NABARD, and constitutional bodies are a guaranteed 2-3 questions in IBPS PO Mains GK.

• Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan 2024 recipients — especially first-time recipients

Financial and Economic Data Points

IBPS PO treats aspirants as future bankers, so economic literacy is tested. Questions appear on India's forex reserves, current account deficit, FDI inflows by sector, UPI transaction records, and stock market milestones (Sensex or Nifty crossing a landmark figure). The trick here is these figures change fast — always use the most current data from RBI bulletin or Ministry of Finance press releases 2-3 weeks before exam.
