This distinction between full membership and partner status reflects varying levels of commitment among prospective members.

BRICS nations collectively advocate for reform of multilateral institutions such as the IMF, World Bank, and UN Security Council to better represent the Global South. The New Development Bank serves as a concrete institutional expression of this agenda, financing infrastructure in member and partner countries with reduced conditionality compared to Bretton Woods institutions.

For India, BRICS provides a platform to advance interests in reformed multilateralism, South-South cooperation, and digital public infrastructure without compromising its strategic autonomy. Balancing engagement within BRICS alongside partnerships with Western groupings reflects India's multi-alignment doctrine.
