DI tests your ability to read tables, bar graphs, pie charts, and line graphs quickly and calculate percentages, ratios, averages, and differences. Speed and accuracy with basic arithmetic is the real skill being tested here.

Types of DI Sets You Will See

IBPS Clerk typically presents data in 5 formats. Table DI gives raw numbers in rows and columns. Bar Graph shows data as vertical or horizontal bars. Line Graph shows trends over time. Pie Chart shows data as percentage slices of a circle. Caselet DI gives data hidden inside a paragraph of text. In recent years, mixed or combination DI (like a table plus a bar graph together) has appeared in Mains. Caselet DI is the trickiest because you must extract and organise numbers yourself before solving.

Approximation Strategy for DI

In IBPS Clerk you get roughly 60 seconds per question. You cannot afford full long division every time. Learn to round off numbers smartly. If a question asks for a ratio like 1342 to 689, approximate it as 1340 to 690, then simplify. If answer options are far apart (like 30%, 45%, 60%), a rough estimate is enough. If options are close (like 42%, 44%, 46%), you need to be more precise. Always check whether the answer options allow you to approximate before spending time on exact calculation.
