RRB Group D regularly asks about Bharat Ratna, Padma awards, Nobel Prizes, and civilian honours. Focus on the most recent announcement year. Questions are usually direct: who got which award, or in which field. Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri are announced on Republic Day eve every year.

• Nobel Prize categories: Physics, Chemistry, Medicine, Literature, Peace, Economics — remember winner names and their country.
• Padma awards are recommended by the Home Ministry and announced on 26 January.
• Dronacharya Award is for sports coaches; Arjuna Award is for outstanding sportspersons.

Sports Events and Records

Sports current affairs are very common in RRB Group D. Questions come on Olympics, Commonwealth Games, Asian Games, Cricket World Cup, and Indian players achieving records. Focus on host city, year, India's medal tally, and record-breaking performances. Chess, Kabaddi, and Hockey also appear since India has strong ties to these sports.

Government Schemes and Policies

Central government schemes are a goldmine for RRB Group D. Questions ask about scheme names, their purpose, the ministry under which they run, and launch year. Railway-related schemes have extra weightage since you are appearing for a Railway exam. Focus on flagship schemes under PM branding and new schemes launched in the Budget.

• PM Gati Shakti is a national master plan for multi-modal connectivity infrastructure.
• Jal Jeevan Mission aims to provide tap water to every rural household by 2024.
• PM Vishwakarma Yojana supports traditional artisans and craftspeople.
• Ayushman Bharat provides health insurance of 5 lakh rupees per family per year.
• One Nation One Ticket is a Railway initiative linking metros and trains on a single pass.
• Vande Bharat Express is a semi-high-speed train made in India under Make in India.

Important Appointments

Who is appointed where is a very common question type. Focus on constitutional posts like President, Vice President, Chief Justice of India, RBI Governor, CAG, Election Commissioners, and heads of major international bodies like UN, WHO, WTO, and IMF. Railway Board Chairman also matters since this is an RRB exam.

• President of India and Vice President — note current names and when they took office.
• Chief Justice of India changes periodically — track the most recent appointment.
• RBI Governor is appointed by the Government of India — note current name and term.
• UN Secretary General is currently Antonio Guterres — term runs to 2026.
• IMF Managing Director, World Bank President — note current holders.
• Chief Election Commissioner and new Election Commissioners after recent law changes.

Summits, Meetings, and International Events

India's role in global events gets tested. G20, SCO, BRICS, ASEAN, and COP summits are high-priority. For each summit, remember the host country or city and the key outcome or theme. India hosted the G20 Summit in 2023, which was a landmark event.

Science, Space, and Defence

ISRO missions and defence indigenisation are hot topics. Chandrayaan-3 was a historic success in 2023 and is almost certain to be asked. New aircraft, submarines, and missile tests by DRDO also appear. Focus on first-time achievements or records.

• Chandrayaan-3 successfully landed near Moon's south pole on 23 August 2023 — lander was Vikram, rover was Pragyan.
• Aditya-L1 is India's first solar mission launched by ISRO in 2023.
• INS Vikrant is India's first domestically built aircraft carrier commissioned in 2022.
• Agni-5 missile with MIRV technology tested in 2024 under Mission Divyastra.
• Gaganyaan is India's human spaceflight mission — test flights ongoing.
• India joined Artemis Accords with NASA for future Moon missions.

• Confusing Arjuna Award with Dronacharya Award — Arjuna is for players, Dronacharya is for coaches. Remember: Drona was a coach in Mahabharata.
• Mixing up host cities of summits — always link the host country with the year clearly, do not just memorise names in a list.
• Thinking old schemes are new — revise launch years carefully. PM Kisan was 2019 but Vishwakarma was 2023. Examiners test the new ones.
• Confusing Chandrayaan-2 failure with Chandrayaan-3 success — Chandrayaan-3 soft landing was a success on 23 August 2023.
• Missing Railway-specific current affairs — as an RRB exam, questions on new train launches, station redevelopments, and Railway Budget highlights are more likely than in other exams.

• RRB Group D current affairs questions are mostly from the 12-18 months before the exam notification date. Focus that window and do not waste time on very old events.
• Questions are purely recall-based with no analysis needed. A single keyword like a name, place, or date is the answer. Practice MCQs to get fast at recognition.
• Railway-specific news has higher probability here than in SSC or UPSC. Check for new Vande Bharat routes, station upgrades, new railway zones or divisions, and Railway Budget highlights.
• Sports questions prefer Olympic or World Championship-level events. District or state-level sports events are almost never asked.
• Do not spend more than 30 seconds on any current affairs question. If you remember it, mark it and move. If you do not, skip and return — never let one GK question eat into your maths time.
