स्थापित संसदीय परंपरा के अनुसार Vote on Account सामान्यतः वार्षिक अनुमानित व्यय के एक-छठे भाग तक, अर्थात लगभग दो माह के व्यय तक, सीमित रहता है। तथापि यह एक परंपरा है, संवैधानिक अनिवार्यता नहीं; चुनावी वर्षों अथवा असाधारण परिस्थितियों में सरकार अधिक अनुदान की माँग कर सकती है।

4. शासन की दृष्टि से महत्त्व

यह उपकरण विशेष रूप से चुनावी वर्षों में प्रासंगिक होता है, जब निवर्तमान सरकार अंतरिम बजट प्रस्तुत करती है। यह नई व्यय प्रतिबद्धताओं को सीमित कर नीतिगत अतिक्रमण को रोकता है और नई सरकार द्वारा पूर्ण बजट प्रस्तुत किए जाने तक राजकोषीय तटस्थता बनाए रखता है।
